Oliver Nelson was one the greatest unsung men in all of jazz. An amazing tenor player (and alto), but an even greater arranger/composer. I wish he wasn't gone so soon.
My favorite jazz pieces are the faster ones, that you can really groove to; this most definitely fits into that category. That's some good music right there, man.
pause. whoever is hatin on the writing in this album hasn't wrote shit half as dope. the real brothers an sisters respect this brother and his work. you artificial, the kind of person that stay frustrated at the jam session lol. shed yo shit a little more and maybe then you'll get it- not just in theory but in the abstract truth that it is. scuse me for the rant ...i just can't stand folks that aint even able to create half as much music hate on original arts. oliver nelson is tight.
The mouthpiece used by Oliver on this record was eventually gifted to none other than Phil Woods and used. It's amazing how much of Oliver's playing is in Phil.
@assasinDN I agree, it sounds artificial. I love Oliver Nelson's 'salty dog' tenor, but on this album his writing gets the musicians into dire straits.
...but what's the title of the song? Cos it aint on my copy of the album!?

Anyone who does not dig this is not into jazz. Oliver was and still is today, one of the greatest innovators! Listen and learn and try counting!
