larry has great tone and his songs don,t need lyrics ,another great player from the 70's like ritenour, parks, elliot randall ,jay graydon and lukather who calls larry his mentor and rightly so!
Larry's style is unique, and their is no other guitar player that can match him in ability and pure songwriting. Larry belongs in the incredibly rare class of the greats; Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, and very few others.
I like how the drummer is completely diggin' on those RE-20 microphones... they look like star wars props. I heard they're good for bass drums, but I didn't know they were good for toms and snares, too 0_0.
Checked out the Keaggy video. Don't see the comparison. Keaggy is more of a shred player and if you don't think tha Larry plays "the whole' guitar you need to check out more of his videos.
yes larry's hair has in itself been a guide to the various stages his career: lomg hair in the 70's, mullet in the 80's, 'help' in the 90's and a dignified acceptance in the 00's. It's a pity about the god thing.
Very interesting to see Larry w/ Mesa Boogie and tons of delay / chorus . Can't wait to see him in NYC this August to Let him know that he's on YouTube w/ Red pants . LOL
None the less a brilliant star and An American Treasure !!
PS to gibsondr100 ... he still does !! Depends on the show !
because there's a lot of guitarists out there who swear they are better, but, you see, Larry Carlton, he's good hearted and doesn't want to hurt their feelings LOL. For real, the man has always been be favorite guitar, and, he still is :-)
Thanks for posting these videos! I've been a fan of larrys for at least 28 years now,, he's arguably the most unique overall guitarist of all time! He's had over 100 gold records, and many television theme song credits such as "Hill St. Blues", "Magnum P.I.", "Rockford Files", "Who's the boss", and several others, and, many movies soundtracks too! He's great!
That's David Benoit on keyboards,, wow was he young then! Larry is it,,, the master of masters on guitar! truly!

The bass is definitely Robert "Pops" Popwell, drummer is John Ferraro.

Look for the 1980 vrsion version of "Time" first.
mudeye 3 years ago
His style reminds me of Phil Keaggy. Both played the Les Paul in the 80's.
However Larry seems to play the top part of the guitar. And Phil plays the whole guitar.
If you can find "Time" on youtube then watch it.Its by Phil Keaggy. Both are similar and great guitarist.
