The haven't banned them outright (although it was on the table in the late 90s and very early 2000s). Basically what happened was the better funded teams had an enormous advantage with sophisticated transmission systems that the smaller teams didn't have the resources to develop. Check the history, it's an interesting story if you're an engineering type.

I'm not sure how it is now, but it used to be that Ferrari was spending nearly $300M on wind tunnel testing alone, which was more than some teams' full season budget. Maintaining parity and competition in that environment is difficult, to say the least.

Comparing the sound of a 4 liter dohc n/a v8 to that of a supercharged 7 liter pushrod v8 shows your ignorance. They may sound similar on a crappy youtube video, but listen to them in person and then tell me an sc400 can sound like that.
the SC 400 is a DOHC motor that still won't sound like that no matter what cams you put in it. Listen to a built chevy OHV(pushrod) motor in person next to the most built SC400 DOHC motor you can find and they won't sound that similar. Not all V8's sound the same. Old school Hemi's sound diff than wedge head chevys or even big block chevys. And the newer OHC & DOHC Fords don't sound much like the pushrod ford motors. Ferrari makes v8's and they sound nothing like american motors.

I had to give up my manual transmission, not because I like an auto but because I could not afford to keep buying rear ends and new gear boxes. At some point you have to go to an auto unless your willing to go to a lenko and a bullet proof rear end.
auto was the only car there at the time of purchase and yeah it 867 which is 1000+ fwhp on 14lbs boost we waiting on a new pully for 20lbs that will make well over 1000 rwhp and upwards of 1200 fwhp
Now I know why my 1977 355 Camaro suffered when I regularly gave it 25lbs boost from an F1C Procharger. It did feel fast on 315 drag radials but must have been over 1000hp at the crank!!!!!!

you take away that auto peice of crap and go 6 speed manual and a ecu programmed for a manual tranny and you can easily make another 40 + whp.. untuned.. but that's just my 2 cents.

@99LSDyme Over the years, F1 rules have gone back and forth on various designs and nuances of assisted manual transmissions. The haven't banned them outright (although it was on the table in the late 90s and very early 2000s). Basically what happened was the better funded teams had an enormous advantage with sophisticated transmission systems that the smaller teams didn't have the resources to develop. Check the history, it's an interesting story if you're an engineering type.

I'm not sure how it is now, but it used to be that Ferrari was spending nearly $300M on wind tunnel testing alone, which was more than some teams' full season budget. Maintaining parity and competition in that environment is difficult, to say the least.

the SC 400 is a DOHC motor that still won't sound like that no matter what cams you put in it. Listen to a built chevy OHV(pushrod) motor in person next to the most built SC400 DOHC motor you can find and they won't sound that similar. Not all V8's sound the same. Old school Hemi's sound diff than wedge head chevys or even big block chevys. And the newer OHC & DOHC Fords don't sound much like the pushrod ford motors. Ferrari makes v8's and they sound nothing like american motors.
