There actually is a limit to what you can give. Now when it comes to giving to a certain political party as a whole (for example: the DNC), as far as I know, you can give as much money as you can stomach. 

However, Campaign Funding regulations state that there is a certain financial limit to which you can give to a certain candidate's campaign. This applies to all of the candidates, Obama, Clinton, McCain, Edwards, and all the other ones that we've forgotten even exist by now.
