If you want to get technical it's actually safer to eat the animal shortly after death or while it is still alive. The meat hasn't had a chance to decay or for bacteria to set in.
I fillet catfish while they are still alive. It makes the meat safer to consume and gives it a fresher taste.

@GotenSSJ1 .... you do realize that there is no food, even greens, that in some way didn't take from an animals life, most often in cruel ways?
In the end game, be it fruit containing ground up race horse bits for fertilizer or a steak from the local market, if you eat in today's world, you participate in animal cruelty.
You'll not think twice about how sick others are while you support the same, its natural as its a way to 'not feel' about the way you interact with the world.

Only a backwoods off grid 100% self sustaining person can make your claims. If that's you, good for ya - 95% of vegans and alike DO NOT live up to those standards but talk about taking the high road.
