that's cool he did at a refund at least - yeah, I've had no problems with any BOSS pedals over the years, but I imagine the every now and then everybody's bound to have some issues...and some certainly have more than their fair share.
May be it was your guitar's high output level? In the manual it says 'With some guitars distortion may be produced. Be careful of your guitar's output level'.
