The caliber on the gun where 15.5mm Nato standard... and eatch shell weight 85kg and the granade weight was 47kg of Trotyl (RDX)... still mutch faster than haubits 77 B to relocate after firing. we could fire 3 rounds and leave the firing sight before first round impacked on target.
It was replaced. Archer-system is more efficient, shooting at a high rate and is alot more mobile. And the system is more integrated with other systems as fx air-to -ground surveillance, gps and radar. The Bkv was outaged, though its high rate of fire. And the new systems all have the capability of carrying nuke-armaments.

Have they even updated those JAS or Leopards? There was a something in the news couple years ago about Sweden cutting their military budget which includet almost everything "heavy". I just dont get it once they have bought those expensive equiment why not use them (training)? Same kind of mistake they did made in 1900-1939. i was a driver on B-kan 1C Class 1991-1992... We had totaly renovated machies
with new Detroit 5.7liter 2stroke diesels turbo and supercharged and boeing Gasturbine...engine new dual Gm400 transmissions.. same as (STR103)
. Slightly under powerd configuration for 54 tons around 630hp but ok for a SPG
The range with loading 3 where nerly about 30Km and the magazine in our Spg still hade a 40mm thick layer of led inside for radiation protektion...

Would've been interesting to see it shoot 14/15 shots in one go. Btw, wasn't it this artillery piece that got some kind of mechanism that is so complex/unique/whatever that only the original desigeners can repair it if it breaks down?

this was made to fire Nuclear warhead but when the swedish goverment decided to build the JA 37 Viggen instead of nuclear weapons they thorwed the Nuclear arms program in the bin, wich was good.

Bofors where really good at gettign high rates of fire with 120mm and 155mm guns in the 50's and 60's
The Finns got a 120mm gun from Bofors that shot 80 rounds a minute with just one barrel.

As an American soldier, I have great respect for Sweden, including its military forces. As to being overbearing, some Americans are, but then I have seen some arrogant Europeans, too. I think it is too easy to remember the idiots from any country. Anyway, I tip my hat to Sweden, a great nation. Stay strong.

@AntTzZor Equals disaster, sure we got many good weapons and systems but we lack everything, from man power to equpiment, we dont have the resources, nor do we have the factories to produce the numbers of lost equpiment, all of which USA got. Sweden is neither capable of conducting war nor to defend it self and possible never will be again. And we dont got the combat excperiences that USA got. Simple put its better we trie to build our own defence union with the rest of scandinavia then to fight

I am a professional American soldier and everything I have studied about the Swedish military indicates it is well trained and well equipped. Certainly your equipment is first class. I wouldn't worry too much about production capacity being critical. Major wars in recent decades seem to be short, maybe a month or two. I am sure you Swedes could kick ass on an invader for that long. BTW, who do you see as the threat these days?

Yet, whenever USA have to fight a serious war against a serious opponent (ww2, Vietnam) you are forced to use the draft.
During the cold war when Sweden where faced with the possibility of a total invasion by the Soviet Union our conscription based military could mobilize 1 million men out of a population of 8 million.
China have 2,255,000 active today
USA have 1,473,900 (wartime)
(If USA used the same system as Sweden did today you would have the capacity to mobilize 37,5 million men...)

Since I happened to be around at the time.
The draft was already in effect, it had not been
removed after WW2. USA routinely drafted and trained the army during peacetime.
The VietNam stink didn't create the draft, what it did do is make the cowards remove the draft
from government policy. The navy refused
draftees during this conflict and rightly so.
If a person won't volunteer to serve they are
useless anyway.

Maybe, but then again, the US has the only all volunteer military that is arguably the best in the world and certainly among the best. Anyway think about this. The Roman Legions had the best military in their time, but it was an all volunteer army.

No no no, you misunderstand, there will be plenty of food, but when the US dollar collapses the wealth of the US consumer will disappear and they will simply lack the money to pay for food. Those who make food in America will have to try to sell it elsewhere to make any money at all. So they will send all food to where trade is conducted with a currency that still holds any value. Like Sweden for example.

Face it, during the cold war Sweden was WAY more militarized then USA and took the Soviet threat much more seriously. In case of war every citizen knew what to do and ALL biggish buildings had bomb shelters in the basement. Heck there was even instructions ("in case of war") in the phone book!
