  • I can't believe Australians chose the moron Kevin Rudd over such a great statesman as John Howard. Oh, well. Since my country voted for the deplorable John Major, Tony Blair and David Cameron, I can't really talk!

  • Great episode. Regardless of your politics, there's no denying Howard represented Australia well here.

  • Don't know if this has been pointed out yet, but at two minutes, when the subtitles say "squadron of [inaudible]", I think it's possible he said "squadron of hornets", referring to the 14 F/A-18 Hornets of No.75 Squadron sent to Iraq in 2003.

  • They Australian people deserved this "dessicated coconut" as their PM! A man who previously as treasurer gave us record levels of inflation, interest rates & unemployment. Finally the ALP's tenacity to implement real economic reforms has stood us in good stead through the GFC. Even Tony Abbott has the integrity to admit that it was Keating and Hawke. All Johnny boy did was ride the economic wave and promote stupidity and lack of education so that he could brainwash people into voting for him.

  • @Mthooz Thank You,well said!

  • One of Australia’s greatest prime Ministers, best at the off the cuff interview (except for any labor minister up against Kerry love labor O'Brien) the only man not scared by the polls when it came to sticking up for what he believed in...Then we have Alco Hawk, Jelly back Keating, bow to the polls Dud and then there is the I’ve lost the primary vote of the Australian public but I will form a factional useless govt Julia. Who is a little green or red depending on the polls for the day.

  • How is this discredited loser still talking his sad old right wing 1950's rhetoric - he lost his seat in an election.

The worst Prime Minister in Australia's history

  • @stephenbiboy You're so out of touch.

  • Those damn European freeriders!

  • Just as Howard says he didn't always agree with the US, I didn't always agree with Howard. I think he did a great job on gun control, bank regulation, the GST and other reforms. But I thought the apology should have just been given to the Aborigines by Howard, it really didn't take much nor did it open Australia up to law suits as was claimed.

Oh and the way East Timor was protected from Indonesian aggression was commendable.

  • australias best PM.

  • Dear America. What Howard did to us over the course of his Prime Ministership was turn a society of people into a business. We all became bit players in an economic model driven day and night to work. Families destroyed and disconnected from community, and lives not worth living from empty and meaningless relationships. That is why he was comprehensively thrown out of government and only the 2nd Prime Minister in history to lose his seat at an election. He is hated.

  • As an Australian, it's strange to see the sort of things American interviewers dwell on - and the way they play up potential conflict. Fear about communism, the fear of "losing" Western liberal democracy to growing Asian and Islamic influence - these are worries we have in Australia, sure, but they're not as important or relevant as the interviewer makes out. Perhaps Howard's more optimistic - but I'd say he's clearer-sighted than his interviewer.

  • The Greatest Australian Prime minister of modern Times .

All the Labor supports like to bag out Howard ....................but if he was so unpopular why did he hold onto power for so long becoming = to the longest serving prime minister ?

Lets see how many times Kruddy gets re-elected ...................and then try and compare the two .

So far , Krudd almost a full term we have the cash buying stimulus handout and the "Alco-pops" tax .....no sign of the "Education revolution"

  • he was actually the second longest, menzies (another liberal) was pm for 16 consecutive years not counting his first time at the job which was about 2 years :)

  • Interesting. But too many softballs.

If he admits that aborigenes were ill treated, they why couldn't he apologies?

  • because he couldnt see the point in opening old wounds just because some of the politically correct wanted him to.

  • A great man! He did so much good for our country and it's a tragedy he lost office, i intend to name my firstborn son Howard in his honour

  • to bloody right .

  • @boganlewis HA HA HA, thats the funniest thing i've read all day! You have a great sense of humour

  • @boganlewis HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa Supergoose! Please do not do that to your child.you may regret it when he gets older! lol
