Thanks for the vid. I only found UpperFilters and deleted that. It is still not detected. My DVD is on Toshiba laptop and it opens fine and flashes for a few seconds. Does this point to faulty DVD?

I can barely concentrate on what YOU'RE saying and that's the whole entire reason why I want to watch this - my disk drive hasn't worked for months now and it wont recognize CDs, DVDs and makes a stupid grinding noise and always says 'Please insert a disk into the drive' when a disk is ALREADY in the drive. I just got this computer a little under two months ago, and when the disk drive stopped working, I was so confused (and admittedly, a bit scared; I don't have much luck with computers). I was even more confused because the disk drive had actually worked a mere three or four days before. I followed the instructions and just restarted my computer, and thank goodness it works! Actually, my problem is like this :

My CD/DVD Drive is obviously detectable, but the only issue that i've is, when i put a DVD disc into my CD/DVD Drive, the disc isn't detectated on my computer, however in other computers can clearly detectaed it whithout any problem

Note: there're some of my DVD discs that are detectated but the other one aren't :( help!

Thanks a lot mate! This was very helpful! I actually only found UpperFilters and there was no LowerFilters but after deleting it and restarting my PC I was able to see my CD drive. You are the people the world needs. Keep it up bro.

.... i tried this yester day and i did it, but the next morning (today) i turned my toshiba satellite p205D-S7802 i needed to go to startup repair and it couldent do it so i sent it to microsoft and they fixed it, but my disc drive still isnt fixed to get to the point anyway :/

Well I did it and it didn't fix the problem. However when I opened up iTunes after that, it said that I can no longer burn or rip CDs now because I messed with the registry. Well it didn't exactly say that but it said that it could be "a result of installing other CD burning softwares. Please reinstall iTunes." Your reply would be great, thanks!

@RyuuXLe Same thing happened to me before I made this video. I just re-installed iTunes and it went alright. iTunes was ok and my CD/DVD drive was perfectly fine. Try re-installing it, sorry for the inconvenience

This is a Permanant Fix. When you install a certain CD/DVD wrighting Program sometimes it edits these and Sometimes with Multiple of these programs in currupts the file. So when you delete these specific Files it gets rid of the problem and rewright the originals down again. Dont install the drive wrighting Programs and choose others!

If you have windows vista or 7 you have to right click on "cmd" when you search it and run as administrator or it won't let you delete the file thumbs up so people know

@tommyisnobich wtf, don't be scared dude. Even if you happen to delete it and it doesn't work it doesn't do any harm. The reason why those files are deleted (in this videos case) is because they interfered with the functionality of the drive (defect caused by itunes). did you make sure you had the same exact symptoms as mine.

GEARAspiWDM.inf is messed up by other software too, Daemon tools, several "Ghost-drives" etc, not just Roxio GEAR has released a new DL that is compatible. Don't burn $50 on a new drive cause half the sites say "must be your CD Drive gone bad", yes they do, but do this first, I have 3 PC's one is 9 yrs old, original DVD.. Now we're a comprehensive guide!

Nothing like dropping 50 bucks I paid for honestly (that I could have DL'd anywhere) that you can't install if you have Itunes. Want Roxio? Say goodbye to Itunes and/or your CD/ROM in your PC 3) If you delete your filters trying to fix this, they will not reappear on reboot, Google search how to install upper filters and lower filters, this is done in your registry, make a backup when you start, instructions are easy and found easily, put on your desktop in case you need to reverse CONTINUED

After having this issue twice in 2 years I found there are a couple of other well-documented causes/solutions. 1)Some random 3rd party softwares with old drivers (AFK.SYS) causing the problem. I'm having problems burning music I can burn DVD's from the same driver.
