  • 5:04 is that a Dreamcast I see under the TV there?

  • The apartments are so cute!!! I can't wait to live in one. :) Why do you need a big bathroom? You just sit down, do your stuff, and leave.

  • that's actually a pretty big apartment. a lot of apartments in Japan dont even have that bedroom. the living room would be their bedroom lol you're lucky!

  • SO SMALL!!!! O_o I live in an american apartment and i was complaining that mine was small but compared to a japanese apartment mine is HUGE!!!! I can understand that for one person they are a descent size but I didn't think that they were going to be that small.... I am pretty claustrophobic so laying down in the living room and being able to almost touch all four walls would make me freak out for a few months... I can do like 5 cart wheels in my living room right now... with furniture...

Is that Eva 02 on top of the bookshelf? I think so!

  • the horrors?...sorry whereabouts did you get to the horrifying stuff? sure its hard to adapt to a new place that isn't perfect but i wouldn't say it was horrible! nice to see behind the scenes though! thanks.

  • LOL@ old lady who walks around with a stroller some times.

  • does the old lady with the stroller have something in the stroller or is she strolling an empty stroller

  • I love the tall, impractical cabinets.

  • damn! you got some nice living space! very big apartments. I wonder how much one near Harajuku Station would cost?

  • So, i'm guessing that you enjoy being an ALT? What are the downsides of the job? (And upsides? 8D)

I want to be one once i'm out of college for a year or so, but I want to hear from people who have actually done it before.

  • haha 04:35 I <3 Porn lol

  • what's scary about it?

  • so do you pay for the apartment? or is it paid for already, because most of the asian countries pay for your accomodation

  • most ALTs in the JET Program get some or all of their rent subsidized, but it varies widely. I only paid about $100/month for my rural apt, but I know JETs who pay as much as $500/month and other JETs who pay nothing.

  • My office paid for nearly all of my rent. Though a neighbor who worked for a different school had to pay all her rent, and key money, and deposit. More or less she had to throw down $2,500 the day she moved in. Japanese apartments can be cheap to rent, but cost small fortune in initial fees and deposits. (Also, you never get your deposit back.)

  • der doofe ami wird mit nem kaugummi im mund geboren - voll grauenhaft die aussprache - die wohnung - meine augen kriegen augenkrebs - zschüß !!!!

  • you look like a Real Gamer (the guy)

  • Great video!,know exactly where your coming from...but there is more space in lots of apartments in Fukuoka. Thanks for the clip!

  • lol the "I <3 Porn" Sticks on the frig

  • Well I do.

  • Thank you all. This was very interesting and informative. Now I know how the other half (Japanese living) live. ; )

  • Get over yourself... these all look fine to me.

  • I'm still wondering what "ALT" means?

  • Assistant Language Teacher

  • Thats what that meant, thanks.

  • ALT is what they call Assistant Language Teachers in the JET Program

  • It's does look very big for a Japanese apartment.

  • As long as you don't live in one of the major major cities, or right downtown, you can find cheap apartments. Heck, in the countryside you can rent entire houses for cheap.

  • scare your pants off yea right

  • Sarcasm is a powerful thing.

  • I would *LOVE* to live next to the tracks.

  • Wow, it's so clean you can eat off of it......?

  • what does ALT mean?

  • Thats what I asked a month ago and no one replied

  • Nice video and very well filmed. Man your apartments are somewhat on the small side. What is an ALT?

Bill is somewhat oppisite. His bedroom is where the living room is. Little odd.

  • they save alot of space by hanving slidey doors

  • Comment removed

  • How tall are you? i need a size comparison.

  • I am 185 cm, or about 6 foot 1 inches.

  • @JoshuaZimmerman That's bad for me. I'm 6' 2".

  • The horrors of modern life?? Why?? they look happy

  • Sarcasm is a powerful thing.

  • I've always envied ALTs that had showers. My apaato only had an old-school bathtub that took 45 minutes to heat after you messed with the clicky-fuse thing!

  • Go to public baths... what is so bad about that?

  • As a hairy foreigner, I don't like the weird looks I get in public baths.

  • I'm just happy I have a regular toilet.

  • ive lived in much worse... i'd do okay there as long as theres no bugs...

  • lol! better in Mexico. Greetings from Mexico CIty!.

  • how much did it cost to live there?

or did your school pay for all of it? How does it work?

  • the lads were living like kings! the girls was ok! all are better than the stuff i have had at uni! i cant wait!! these just typical of fukoshima?

  • Hey I have a feeling this video was ment for a few specific people and their friends and I am a random person. That being said, what is an ALT?

  • ALT = Assistant Language Teacher.

  • Horrors? I love the girl's apartment. Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to get something that looks that decent...

  • When I was a JET, my apartment was placed 10 feet from the city dump. Brown toilet water dripped from the apartment above me, mold grew around my shower walls, maggots flew out of my tub, centipedes and spiders crawled across my kitchen wall as I cooked, but "I made the best of my experience" for 10 months.

  • lol last guy has it you dont!

  • what prefecture were these apartments in?

  • I have the same stuff in my apartment, but since she's so much taller, it looks like she lives in Barbie land!

  • wow thas very nice looking actually!! i read some stories of roach infestedd shit hole jet apartments but im atually very impressed. . .quite impressed!!

  • ALT apartment situations depends where you get assigned to and whether or not your employer cares how you will be living for the next contract year.

  • what is an ALT and a JET?

sorry, i just don't know. sue me.

  • They are college graduates that go to Japan to teach English.

  • ALT: Assistant Language Teacher.

JET: Japanese Exchange and Teaching Program. Its a certain program in Japan for teaching english.

  • This vid was awesome! I've never been outside of the US so it was cool seeing what life is like outside of what I usually know. :-)

  • Nice shoebox, がんばって!

  • wow - so jealous of the huge apartments - I would say the best things about those apartments would definately being having a seperate bedroom and living room. The kitchens were also rather large. All of the showers seemed to have windows too - which means less mold. What a nice BOE.

  • huge aperments

  • Bill is kinda cocky about his apartement ^^

  • Oh wow, Im from Colorado too...but I don't work for JET, I work for a crappy English teaching company *cough*AEON*COUGH*...my life is like a living hell as of late...~misctube

  • I am applying for JET but also went online and applied for AEON. Should I take this as a warning to not follow through with AEON. I had heard JET was the best way. I am sending my application off tomorrow for 2008, I can't wait to get out there.

  • From what I have learned/heard/observed (one of my friends is in JET), JET is much better in some aspects. BUT, with this line of work its a total grab bag of happiness. I got a really bad deal, others get a really good deal (great apartment, good coworkers, they enjoy the meager wages (I don't know how much you make with JET). All in all its up to you...just don't regret your decision. All or nothing. ~misctube

  • Jet pays 3,600,000 yen a year. I'm definitely not in it for the money, I just want to get out of The United States for a year, and Japan has always been of interest to me.

  • Yeah thats still a helluva lot more than I make and....well yeah...Im sad to learn that hahahaha :D Oh well...but its nice if you can handle it here.

  • Are you and Tokyojosh related?

  • wats a jet alt??

    sounds fun

  • hmm looks nice but tell me why your in japen like for a break of visting or live there tell me please

  • That first apato is actually quite large for a Japanese apartment.

  • Actually, all three apartments are more or less the same size. The different layouts make them look different sizes.

  • I'm coming as a JET ALT at the end of July, I haven't heard anything about my housing yet. :( I hope it's as nice as the three here.

  • where r u stationed???

  • Did you go? Do you like it?

  • COOL MORE MORE

  • im coming to JET in a couple of months, im so excited!

    Thanks for showing us this!

  • y dont u live in a house instead. I would save all the money i would get and buy a house cause jap. apartments super small thats what it looks like

  • Could you tell me a bit about the average ages of the ALTs? What would you say is the average age, are they fresh out of college, in their 30's? How's all that work?

  • Crystal`s apartment is really nice :-) Very light and airy.

Josh, love the pants hanging outside your window ;-p

Bill, my loo is waaay smaller than yours. Only I with my short legs can fit ;-p

And my apartment is bigger than all of yours nanananana! I could use a couch though

  • Your apartment is a total pit though, and in the middle of nowhere. Keep your inaka apartment, I like city life. (Plus my pants are super cool)

  • Different strokes ;-p

  • on frig it said "i heart porn"

  • Well I do! Who doesn't?

  • Dude.. im still clean.. I'm a clean Soul~

  • does it mean that there's ghost in your apartment?

  • lmao ^^

  • I think Krystal wants Josh.
