I thought New York, New York was the state anthem not this song. I think everyone thinks that New York New York is the state song. I don't care since im from Yonkers. Their both good.
@strykertool "New York, New York" is only about NYC. "I Love New York" is about the whole state, of which NYC is a part. If Albany decided to make "New York, New York" the state song, the people upstate would be strongly offended.
Absolute melodic, vocal, orchestral, engineering, and production masterpiece standing as trophy to the cultural, philosophical, and intellectual zenith of this civilization - the 1970s.
That so much effort and energy went into a television commercial - as was typical of the timeperiod - to produce a melodic, vocal, orchestral, engineering, and production masterpiece stands as showpiece to the cultural and intellectual apex of this civilization - the 1970s.
Governor Hugh Carey's tourist promo introduced in the Spring of 1977 to promote a much more positive image of both NYC and the State of New York going through complete big economic fallout by the mid 1970s.
they should at least change it now...its 40 years later and those times are past.......the STATE song of NY should reflect the values of the state....not the couple square miles of city at its farthest edge...
As a New Yorker (THE STATE NOT THE DAMN CITY) I vote to change the STATE song to something that fits the STATE...not just the city....everytime I leave the damn state and people ask where I'm from...I say New York....and they always assume I mean NYC......this and because this damn song blowsssss
hi @Clay4legacy - Cheers for the comment Bill, N.Y.C will always be a cool place on the world map, I'm an Englishman and I've only ever been once to N.Y back in the 80s but loved every minute, I'd love to go there again. Best Regards from the UK. Rob
I have relatives who lived in Uniondale NY from Spring 1961 until November 1977 and then they moved to Scottsdale Arizona. They missed the 4 seasons there and hated the 115 degree farenheit Summers in Arizona so they eventually moved back there in 1996 after both of they retired from their jobs
@tyrese3745 10 days after. Still a mess but Eastern Long Island looked a lot nicer. Going to watch the Yankees vs the Royals on July 24th at Yankee Stadium was the highlight in NYC. Bonus part was they won the game 3-1. Although Riverhead,East Hampton,Montauk, and the Atlantic Ocean were more variety highlights of the vacation than NYC. NYC was very messy at that time. But people who told me going there years later say it looks a lot nicer than I saw in 1977.
Thank you so much for creating this video. I own the single and just converted it to an MP3. It is nice but can't compare to your upload. Greatly appreciated!
Oh my God Sherwood, Thanks for posting the best sound quality version of this that I have come across so far. Brought back so many memories. I can still remember the song and the commercials when they ran this campaign. I guess thats the sign of a good song. It just sticks with you. So, So catchy. thanks again.....Steve
hi Steve, glad you liked my video it was fun to make - just goes to show vinyl still shines bright! You have/had some great t.v jingles in the U.S and the love you guys have for your N.Y.C comes through strongley here in the U.K. ATB Rob :)
@SherwoodofRobin...Hey there Rob, Thanks again for your post of this song. It got me searching and I was fortunate enough to find (and purchase) a flawless vinyl copy from 1977 "Struttin Records" label Just like yours. I have you to credit for that because until I saw the flash of your "45" on your video I didn't even know it existed. Thanks again Rob. Take Care.....................Steve
hi Steve, glad you managed to get a copy, I can't believe how many hits this video has had! It's such a 'feel good' sound isn't it. Best Regards form the UK. Rob
Fond memories. The beginning kinda reminds me of the Rocky theme - And this song was a battle cry of sorts. This song and the campaign saved New York City and New York State as a whole.
I heard this song played at Shea Stadium so many times during the mid to late 1980's. They often played it after a loss, but they also played it before some big wins like game 7 of the world series against the Red Sox, an 8-5 Mets win.
@70sman4ever I heard this song played at Shea Stadium many times during the mid to late 1980's when I was a little kid. They played it often after a loss, but they also played it before game 7 of the 1986 World Series.
I am brasilian man ,I live in São paulo , Brasil .... ....ainda antes de morrer, se Deus quiser, pisarei no solo de manhattan .........,thank you for posting
I miss the New York of the 1970s man, more down-to-earth and not so artificial and over-priced and gentrified as it is now...New York is only for snobs that's a big pity...Dig it? I prefer my NYC with graffitti and goood old-fashioned pizza where you could smoke in a restaurant and go out to nightclubs or disco strutting in style clad in polyester and bellbottoms...
@tyrese3745 Those were the classics man! Hey we need another serial killer out on the loose to prey on these snobby tourist women HEH HEH HEH!! Oh, don't forget the fat ugly beer drinking slobs whose pants fall off their waist! Dig it?!
@batfan1400 I am happy that you appreciate what New York City really was and what it should be. remember that you can take New York City out of the "grit" but you can't take the "grit" out of New York City. peace out...
@batfan1400 Just so you know, that song/campaign was describing the places many people can visit in New York State (i.e. campgrounds, beaches, lakes/rivers, the Adrondack mountains, Lake Placid, Lake Champlain, Niagara Falls, Buffalo, Rochester, the state capital Albany, etc.), not necessary New York City (the five boroughs), the towns in Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Dutchess, and Ulster Counties, or Long Island.
That was the song I was searching during my visit in 1987. Thank you for bringing that song. Now where can I buy a CD of that song. I hope Albany had released it.
