I think I've grown up with a reverse idea of the use of a dreamcatcher... I'd had mine since I was a little girl and I've never felt the need to cleanse it because for me, it doesn't catch bad dreams, it catches good ones, and the good dreams trickle down into the feathers and are released to me (as it's hung on the wall above my head). The bad dreams fly through the web and go away. So for me, I feel it would be counterintuitive to cleanse it, since it would get rid of all the good dreams! :P
i never thought of that before, but now that i am i completely agree with you. it only makes sense, you know? cause you don't want all the built up negativity and bad dreams inside of the dream catcher to come seeping out after a while because it's too full. this is such a great idea! <3
My dad used to blow through my dream catcher every night when I was small before I went to sleep. I don't use them anymore but at the time I felt that it worked, I remember that feeling that it would get clogged up if he didn't do that often enough :)
I think even bad dreams are worth having, because they teach you things and allows you to experience things you probably never would in the real world.
I would do this on the full moon and then immediately bury the crystal in the earth (or potted plant) with the intent for it to absorb the negative energy. I would dig up the the crystal on the new moon or full moon. BTW thanks for the vid I loved it as usual :) Many Blessings ) o (
However, if yours already receives direct sunlight, perhaps its a different story. we believe not all neg. dreams are bad. If you have had continuos bad dreams in a certain period of time, place a stone or herb for dream recall under your pillows, and record all bad dreams. Look for a pattern or message, and take action. The dreams will then stop, unless further action is required. =]
In my experiences with the Cherokee Nation, we believe the good dreams navigate the web and filter down the feathers to you. The bad ones get stuck in the web, and are killed by sunlight in the morning. Try moving the catcher to the area that gets the most direct sunlight, and you should not have this problem again.
Lovely idea. I think smudging would be a good way of cleansing it, what with it being a dream-catcher, and smudging being heavily used by native americans. I do want to say, I actually DO reuse the salt. I find that it is a representation of earth, and the earth can handle any and all energies, in my eyes. Therefore its like the salt absorbs it back into the earth and makes it flow again, makes then energy 'neutral' in a way. Just a different way to look at it. :) Whatever feels right.
What I would do in this situation is place it under sunlight on a sunny day, much like with crystals. Can hang it on a tree branch and ask the tree spirit to cleanse and charge it for you as well.
Cleansing the dreamcatcher makes perfect sense especially if you "felt" it needed to be done. I find that following one's intuition is usually the best direction. Thanks for sharing!
this is am AMAZING idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im definitely going to give this a go if it works i might have to add it to my B.O.S ;) THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!!!

Might be a completely stupid idea, but if you had a small dreamcatcher, could you cover the dream catcher with salt?
