Ihave just bought a panasonic hdc-sd700.. i upgraded from an hdc-sd10)..
the 700 has fantastic quality video, it is classed as pro-sumer and can shoot 1080p 50p pal (60p ntsc).. it has 2 mos sensors and is great in low light, has a mic input and a cold shoe.. if you want to save yourself all the research i did..just buy it..you will love it...£700 ish.. well worth it tho
Umm I have a question. I just wanna make vids on youtube with respectable camera quality. I had a GFM digital Camera/camcorder and the USB thing fell out.
It was very good in the dark--actually not at all good. Should I just get another one of those or get a better one Price range 50-60 dollars.
If you're wondering about the advantages of shooting with an HD camera we have a video with Nigel Barker explaining the benefits of HD at /watch?v=CFJp71jP8ls.
when will mega pixels max out??? i think where at around 14 MP's now 3 years ago we were around 6-7 maybe. this is bullshit. U know in some japanese lab there is a camera fully made that is like 30 mega pixels. but they will slowly bring pixels 1-2 at a time. to make more money. whats after digital camera's. 3-d image camera of course.
No your wrong....Harddrive camcorders are good BUT!! There not good for any movement the harddrive stops recording.....Mini dv Canon GL2 is tape and its $1,500+ and the Canon XL1 is 2,000+ and its tape.......Harddrive mostly means easy uploud and in some cases slightly better video Q.......
LIKES: Metal Case/10Mp/3' screen/Features AMAZING/Super compact and powerful/easy use/image stabilizer/Rechargable batt/editing software/works with windows movie maker/Best multi picture/video camera i have ever used
LIKES: HD Looks amazing love not using tapes, Touch screens the best, Very compact
DISLIKES: Does not come with any editing software at all, Does not work with windows movie maker, PISSED ME OFF VERY BAD WHEN I GOT IT, I ended up buying sony vagas pro software, now i love it
i recommend u buy a dslr. its a perfect for your puspose. buy a lightest one so u can bring it with wherever u go. for your budget olympus e-420 with lens kit 14-42mm its suit you best. but before you decide to buy you have to test them first. this' general rules before you buy anything. good luck n happy shooting!
I'm sorry I really don't have the money for that camcorder. I would definately get it though. What's the best camcorder you would recommend for someone who's budget is 200-250 bucks tops? Thanks in advance for the help
Yup it's official. I'm getting the DXG -566 hd camcorder probably. Maybe the Flip Mino unless it's not that good. What have you heard about the Flip Mino?
would u please recommend me a camcorder?? i want a camera in the 300$ range. thats good 4 editing n youtube, and record 2 hours or more at one time. i am using it for basketball footage indoor n outdoor. would u please help me out n recommend something thank u
Click REPLY TO or send me a message. A pretty prominant videographer in the Dallas area told me not to buy a HDV camera because they were going to be quickly phased out. However somebody told me that was not the case at all. Has anybody heard anything about the uncertain future of HDV cameras? I have the money to buy a good camera in the 6K and under range, but I'd like to buy 2 good 3K or under cameras if I could. I was checking out the HDV cameras until that ONE guy told me that info.
Definately get a Panasonic GS320 It's a really great camers, it pretty much has all the featuers of a 5000 dollar camera, and super easy to use, but you may have to read the manual a few times.
Thanks for your recommendation on the Panasonic GS320. I just bought it and will let you know what I think. So far the rest of the internet loves it too. Not too bad either. Circuit city had it for $389 (in-store pickup + tax).
Thanks for helping me decide. I almost bought one that sucked!! LOL
I currently use the Sony DCR-SR42, and I like the hard drive, night mode is pretty cool, and I the 40X optical zoom (optical is the good zoom that doesn't loose quality when you use it)
Thank you for this video, Nalts, if I ever save up enough money, I will buy the Canon HV20, it looks like a great camera.
Sony DCR-SR42. Portable, massive hard drive space. Need to buy the larger battery pack. Only HQ video quality and interlaced (bad). No shoe on top of camera.
Would you recommend the HV20 to make professional short films for festivals? People say that the small size of it makes it a little more jumpy than other cameras when handheld. I am really thinking about getting one, but i'm nervous because of the price. Would to strongly recommend the HV20 for people who only have upwards of around $1,000 to spend on a camera? I hope it's the best I can get for a grand.
My camera is a Panasonic PVGS85 I got it for about $ 269 Its takes great video the only thing i dont like about it is that you have to plug it into the wall inorder to plug it under usb.

Recently purchased an open box Sony DCR-SR42 at Circuit City. The original price was at 562$ and they had a 50% discount, minus 50$ for dropping it in front of me, equals a total of 199$.
Likes: video quality, relatively small file size, controls, comfort holding the camera, docking station, easy charging and download function, large storage capacity, the lcd. Oh, and I absolutely love that zoon. It makes all the difference.

Just purchased a Sony DCR-HC38 camcorder the other day from Ritz Camera for $400. I wanted something with a powerful zoom and this has it--40x optical zoom/2000x digital zoom. Easy to use, very small--but will not take still photos ( not in instruction booklet. ) Has consistent good reviews everywhere, all-in-all worth the price.
Canon ZR850 Paid $400 Canadian with leather case and extra battery. If you want to to a lot of editing don't go with a DVD cam, you're better off with miniDV. I don't like that you have to upload in realtime to the PC. Also, invest in a firewire connection. Almost sounds like I know what I am talking about, well, I don't so look it up. Life is like a digital camera, you never know when you're gonna get to see spricket24 slap nalts. I'm fans of both!
Just purchased the Sony Handycam DCR-HC48 for $339 and used it to make all of the videos I have up. I like it because it's easy to use, compact, the dockstation works perfectly with Vegas Import... the only negative aspect is that it doesn't work well in dark situations, so make sure you light your scene well enough. I got it from bhphotovideo dot com
I have and use a Panasonic TZ1. It looks like a single shot camera, so when I walk around shooting in video mode my subjects think nothing is happening 'cause I don't have my finger on the shuttter button, net result is I get more relaxed interaction.
Nice laundry hanging out -- though its probably your summer home (Remember your a 'Partner' now). I tried to by MGM's video camera on EBay, but the description said it was a gently used "Mathew B. Brady Camera of Civil War Vintage."
Why spend $1000 on a digital camera, when you can spend just a few more dollars and get an actual VHS unit? Just think if you had a vhs you could sell your videos to the video stores, instead of putting them on YOUTUBE for free.
Last year I bought a Cannon Elura 85 DV. A Higher end cammcorder, lots of options, usb, firewire, audio inputs, digital still w sd memory card slot, nice viewfinder.....only drawback is a battery that runs out fast...but if you buy a nice quality backup battery this would be a great camera for any budding YouTubber, all for about 400 bucks!!! Recommended!
see Whit101 in video responses for see part of my 1st YouTube video. Bought a small JVC GZ-MG130 w/30GB Hard drive, $449 at WalMart or on the Web for around $380.
A great quality, portable camera is the flip video. Its about the size of a video iPod, and it has exellent quality. You can get the 30 minute version for 119.99, or the 60 minute version for 149.99. Anither great thing about it is that it has a usb connector (not a cable) built right in, and so is the software, all you do is plug it in. The only bad part is that it does not have a tripod, so theres not much of a place to put it when you are filming.
dude im 14 and a job that pays 6 bucks an hour and i work 2 - 10 hours a day but i get payed on fridays any video cams under 500$ that are worth a damn on youtube?
you could get a webcam. i bought a logitech at staples for $89 and it works great. most of my videos were made with it through my laptop. if you want a portable cheap video cam, i bought a vivitar 5mb video camera from walmart for $114. it fits in your pocket.
Canon GL2, 3CCD--but it is a monster and there are pros and cons. Great advice on reading up online about all the pros and cons. Depends what YOU need your camera for. I have a wee Canon Elura 100 for pictures and small projects--but it stinks in low light.
Well the HV20 has to be the best on the market in the price range. That camera really does produce some stunning footage, i would probably feel bad just using it for youtube videos myself. I think its about time for Youtube HD.
My only tip would be to keep a small sized camera even if you upgrade to some wonderful 3CCD chip goddess. Keep the smaller one for more intimate filming, were a big ass Sony DCR-VX2100 type thing would be intrusive to the moment. Also two camera angles are always better than one. The one you use (from your brother) looks wonderful by the way. Heck, keep that...
I recommend Canon or Sony on Digital Video Cameras, and my friend recently bought the JVC 30GB HD Digital Video Camera from $300 - $600 and he is really happy with that one so there you go :D
GOOD NEWS? I've got a JVC GZ-MG36EK *30GB HD* (ha ha!!) wide-screen camera which I love!! You can view chapters of your filming through thumbnails listed on the fold-out wide-screen! It's easily to use, produces high quality results and looks sharp. BAD NEWS? This cost £450 (about $900!), altho I've seen 'em for nearer £400. GOOD NEWS? Santa bought it for me! BAD NEWS? It's underused and I've STILL not posted anything on YouTube!!! ...."Cheers"!
And it's your disclosure of such sponsorships that is a large part of selling out with class. Add a little bit of humor in, and then some mysterious nalts factor, and suddenly I'm no longer angry that companies are buying you in order to get me to buy their products...
omg i am so glad i do not do videos! my head is so spinning after watching this vid nalts, you no i cant even up load a photo of myself, i am a dummy lol
My Digital Camera can only record like 5 minutes of video on the memory card and drains the battery quickly(Have a battery recharger that comes with it though.). Pretty nifty and small though. It's not like I use the camera for anything other than hunting for skyfish though....
I have a Canon ZR-500. I have no complaints. I wish I would have spent a few more bucks and got a slightly better model, but I was being cheap. Nice composition on the video Nalts. The fences Focus attention on the main subject-must remember that.
My camera is a Samsung VP-L900 and i love it but i cant use it to make videos for you-tube as its a Hi8 video camera and i cant convert it on to my pc, it cost £250 or about $400 i think, i dont know how currency works, if anyone knows a way to convert Hi8 video to a pc then let me know
yeh, can i buy it, that would be so cool, to start making videos with CameraOfNalts, see, i came up with that, i am the most creative, i am the chosen one who should get to buy the camera, lol.
I've got a Fuji FinePix F31fd - fantastic stills & video for the size & price. With a 2 gig card cost £180 from Amazon - 1 hour vid + sound, great for YT.. battery life brilliant! used on all my stuff.
Casio EX-Z1000, It's a still camera but it has very good video quality. It costs around £300 which is about $600 I think. It only gives you 10 minute clips though.
if you go to circuit city, purchase the camera online because i saved almost a 100.00 dollars on a camera at circuitcity. com. so if you go to circuit city to buy a camera, go on circuitcity. com to buy it.
are you saying go to curcuitcity. com if i go to curcuit city to purchase a camera? or are you saying if i want to buy a camera at curcuit city ,goto curcuitcity. com?
Canon Elura. I researched every single bit of what it can do for the price range versus other models. It's rated in the top 3 of several consumer reporting agencies. $349
Samsung S850 digital Camera. <$200 As a camera, 8.1 megapixel camera with 5 digital zoom. As a video camera, shoots 640 x 480 @ 15 / 20 / 30fps and 800 x 592 @ 15 / 20fps in MPEG-4 format. Takes 2 'AA' size or ove CV3 battery, to it's easy to find batteries in a pinch. Also has a lot of good camera features. For those with a tight budget, an excellent camera
I don't even have an HDTV, but I think it may be time for an HD camera. If I shoot anything, it's cause I'll wanna watch it years later, and at that time, all TVs will be HD, I'd hate to watch SD video of, say, my kids when they were still babies.
Mine is a Canon Optura 30. It's a mini-dv that supports either 4:3 or widescreen. Has good zoom and auto stabilization. It's a couple of models old, but in that price range. It's also very good in low light. My next one will probably hd based, tape is so yesterday. I got it used on Ebay. Buy from anywhere but if you find a super cheap new model of any video camera beware of gray market resale. You'll get no warranty, all the literature and controls may be in another language.
And I don't think I'll be looking in the $1000 range. That used to be a down payment on a car! (Have not bought one in a while - not sure if that is still true.)
Thanks! This actually helped (Although I never asked), but I'll be looking in the $1,000 range. as for now, I just use my P&S still with video feature.
Dear Nalts,
Since i am still a child is the Crayola Camcorder a good choice for me i'm 12 and it works really good but i'm saying for a chold like me.
From your fan,

And lots of laughs after I show them the results!

The only bad part is that it does not have a tripod, so theres not much of a place to put it when you are filming.

you could get a webcam. i bought a logitech at staples for $89 and it works great. most of my videos were made with it through my laptop. if you want a portable cheap video cam, i bought a vivitar 5mb video camera from walmart for $114. it fits in your pocket.

Check craigslist for local private sellers. Cheaper than ebay and you can see the product when you exchange it for our hard earned cash.

Well the HV20 has to be the best on the market in the price range. That camera really does produce some stunning footage, i would probably feel bad just using it for youtube videos myself. I think its about time for Youtube HD.

I would settle for YouTube DVD. Ever down load one of these vids and watch it on a regular TV? Nasty.
jkbbr549 4 years ago
My only tip would be to keep a small sized camera even if you upgrade to some wonderful 3CCD chip goddess. Keep the smaller one for more intimate filming, were a big ass Sony DCR-VX2100 type thing would be intrusive to the moment. Also two camera angles are always better than one. The one you use (from your brother) looks wonderful by the way. Heck, keep that...
