Good to see British apathy in full swing with some people today.
If you fail to grasp the simple concept that its wrong for the Argies to force the people of these islands into their country theres no hope for you...why dont you call yourself Chamberlain and be done with it
Because I'm as British as a Scotsman deported to Canada and a Hungarian who left shortly after Bela Kuhn took power. No there is no strategic location. It isn't in a position for any strategy. Too far in the Atlantic for refueling in any British holdings. Plus the Panama canal negates it as a major trade island. It had what 125 people on it? It would be like saying St.Pierre and Miquelon are strategic locations to attack Newfoundland. Or something dumb like that.
1-So not being British this has nothing to do with you
2-They are strategic, there is suspected to be oil reserves in the waters surrounding the Island thus making it a useful asset
3-It has 3,000 people living there. If your suggesting we should have left them there under Argentine control, thats like suggesting leaving hostages under the control of the hostage takers in terrorist or criminal situations
3-We didn't put them there they moved there a long time before...also proof please to substantiate these ridiculous claims that an Island with a massive military presence is somehow shipping drugs
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Actually, Margaret Thatcher was a sick human being. She wanted to begin the war by bombing the Argentine mainland. But thanks to president Reagan, who spoke with her over a phone call, she backed down. The purpose of the Faulkland islands war was to establish the island as a drug port for British ships transporting heroin from India.Argentina lossed the war before it began because the US and Britain threatened Argentina economically.
The Malvinas never belonged to the British. In the early 1900's The British crown told many Welsh and English sheep hearders that there was free land on an island off Argentina and they immigrated there. Meanwhile, The Argentine sheep hearders were busy going back and forth to and from the island over the years until few remained. So the English one day planted their flag on the island and declared it thier own. lol !
Establish something fun? Um, like what? A giant fun fair?
The Falklands were named in 1690 by John Strong, during his expedition to the area. The name 'Malvinas' dates to 1764, when the French set up a small colony. A British settlement was built in 1766, on the other side of the Islands. The Spanish took over the French colony in 1766. In 1774 the British withdrew their settlement but kept their claim. In 1811 the Spanish also withdrew their settlement.
In 1828 Argentina founded a settlement and a penal colony. In 1831 the US Navy destroyed it, as Argentina was attacking American sealing ships in the area. Escaped prisoners and pirates were left on the Islands.
In 1833 the British reasserted their claim, allowed their existing settlers to stay and posted a governor. They then built a naval base, which is why a German naval squadron tried to attack the place in 1914.
This lament was written for true heroes when your country was still populated by creole nomads. Indeed, the Falklands-Malvinas were lost even before Argentina was formed as a nation. Your real courage as a military nation was only truly tested in 82 in a war you could not lose, yet did - against a vastly inferior force, 8000 miles away from home. The fight was about honour, self-determination and justice, concepts which you as a man and Argentina as a nation have clearly yet to learn.
You are clearly retarded. Remember further that the 82 was only really fought so as to divert attention from the murderous Junta that was killing your own people. Subject the people of the Falklands to you animals - never my friend! PS the Queen sends hugs!

So the English one day planted their flag on the island and declared it thier own. lol !

You obviously have no idea about the history of the place. The UK took over the Falklands in the 1830's. Cretin.

If that comment was directed toward me I can assure you youre wrong.
The British have no claim to the Malvinas.
What's worse the British didnt even make use of the island to establish something fun.
The British govt essentually directed Welsh toward the island with false claims that the land was free.
Later after most of the Argentines had left they raised the Union Jack and declared the island British Territory.

Port Stanley was founded in 1843.
