I was really looking forward to this also. Realistic Newtonian physics are lacking in games. This time period was the beginning of the end for Sierra. Shortly after, Vivendi happened and things went to hell very fast. They don't exist anymore, really (activision owns their stuff).
@dslcobra I got the game too. U can play it with a normal Joystick (if u r a good pilot^^). If you want to play the "finished" version download the update for the game from the creaters website! There r some mission addons, too. The game is freaking awesome!
"Meanwhile, lackluster Star Wars and Star Trek games continue to be funded and developed so parents who were sci-fi nuts can live vicariously through their children." - - I love that line!!! hahaha....
I would like too see a B5 game where you could a certain Character, visit station and other planets and of course piloting the starships. Mainly i mean an mmo but not just based on flying ships like a flight sim.
I seem to remember that they had it such that you could use a Sidewinder 3D with its top hat for some of the control (which meant pulsed). I had been using an ancient Gravis Analog Pro (and mopping up my friends in XvT and Freespace with it), and specifically decided to go out and buy a Sidewinder much to the dismay of my roommates who already had sophisticated F-16 sticks. Needless to say they stopped playing against me and I was forced to wait for the new game which never came. :(
I understand your anger. I was right there with you. I'd upgraded my machine just for that game and was drooling when they said that everyone wanted to play it on the Athlon since it was faster. Me and my friends would play freespace and XvT in the dorms waiting for what we all hoped would be a great game. I dno't blame Sierra, as it was the company that bought them that killed off all the cool stuff they had done.
They even had merchandise ready to go with the game - including key rings, mousemats and a rather nifty shadow watch. They flogged them off to make some money and I bought all 3 - madness!
Yeesh, that's a bitter pill to try to swallow. Well if it's any help to you, I remember that there was a good B5 mod for Freespace 2. You might still be able to find that somewhere online.
I remember when I got some interactive guide thing for babylon 5, it said that there was a game due out in autumn of 98. I remember looking and looking until in early 2000 I just gave up. Ho-hum. Sure, it's a bit ropey-looking by today's standards, but it'd have been so much fun!
I've found her is actually a really fun game if you are used to it. The controls area a bit iffy at first and the campaign is really short. They've brought out Skirmish, which you can create custom games and LAN. And I think the Black Omega expansion is coming out
I see you have mentions of the excellent babylon project (a freespace conversion, now in it`s 3rd incarnation & still being worked on;) ),also you have mentioned the Babylon 5 IFH game (good & damned hard).
What about BUDA 5?,it is a conversion for IWAR 2 that has (semi)newtonian physics & best of all you can FLY A WHITE STAR!!!,excellent.
Unless you have allready done so (imsiriustube have allready mentioned it) you shuold try "babylon 5: i`ve found her." it is a very good, no, awsome space-combat simulator. the physics are "correct" and it is freeware. space dream factory are the people behind it. both single player and multiplayer modes, and a introduction to the campaign storyline, which is not done yet.
a must for any serious b5-fan;)
(personaly i prefer flying with joystick, which gives much more control over the starfury)
Something along the lines of a combination of Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Star Wars Rogue Squadron.
I would like to launch a campaign to get this game re-made - but I don't know where to start. I would really appreciate some good suggestions and advice!
I agree that Sierra should burn in hell for the rest of eternity for cancelling this game!
It might be more appealing to game developers and the video game consumer if this game was not strictly only a space combat sim. Instead, I think it would make more sense from a marketing perspective, if this game could be made as a combination of the best elements of a space combat sim, first-person shooter, tactical combat shooter, & RPG.
If you want to see how it might look like, you could try searching for The Babylon Project on YouTube. It's a Total Conversion mod for FreeSpace 2 and may be worth checking out. The Flail Babylon video may also be worth a look, although it's a bit outdated now.
I haven't seen the new B5 movie yet, and I actually took a pass on the Rangers, but I've seen that JMS has been trying to get a feature made for theatrical release. But I think JMS should consider re-releasing B5 as a game like Ghostbusters is doing, since like you said, not one Goddamn game has been made for B5 and its high time now that gaming has made such progress since the run of the show.
Head over to babylon . hard-light . net (no spaces). There's a standalone Babylon 5 space-combat TC for download there, based on the Freespace 2 Open engine.
Wow like one of my comments get posted anymore. YouTube has really been pissing me off lately. Anyway I said I'm glad ITF got made since Sierra pussed out. As far as I know no one has tackled realistic space combat before probably because most people are ignorant and want Star Wars games instead of B5 games.
I was always mad at Sierra for not releasing their game. I'm glad that Into the Fire got made and have been meaning to download it for some time now, tho I'm not much for video games these days. It seems there's a big market for realistic shooters, racing, fighting but as far as I know no one's ever tackled true-to-physics virtual space combat. Probably because Babylon 5 was the only franchise to tie that to, and B5 wouldn't sell like Star Wars (due to stupidity of the masses)
actually sierra still has the original site up and running I don't remember the url but I know it's there cause last week I downloaded three trailers for it if people want me to I'll upload them.
I've just uploaded the trailer for The Babylon Project's "Earth-Minbari War" game. I would have posted it as a video response, but as you can see vid responses are disabled. You can find it in my profile, and the link for the free download is at the end of the trailer.
Great video! I miss the B5 series a LOT, and when I downloaded B5: I've Found Her, I was at a loss for words. This small game blew me away, from the wingmen chatter, to the physics and over all creepy feeling you get almost thinking you're actually a part of the game is something I can't describe. dslcobra I understand exactly how you feel about this game. I'm REALLY surprised that NO ONE has even tried to buy the rights for the game to complete it??
I mistook the second one as ingame footage but it was just a cut from a TV episode in which you can see how the raiders attack B5 therefore i just have one more ingame ITF video.
ps: I wanted to make a video response to yours but i didn't manage to get it to work. Maybe you are more successful.
i totally dont understand why sierra ditched that game. i mean, its like throwing money out of the window. TWICE! first, the production costs, second the income of the sales of the game.
btw, there are 2 more videos of ITF. you got them, too?
I remember waiting for this game to come out and feeling so pissed when they yanked production. What was worse was that Sierra (I think) never gave a reason for doing so. That was the worst slap in the face. And it looked like it was going to be a cool game, too.
What i find amazing is that even though the game is dead, the site still exists, even the download section. Wonder why they won't pull it, not that i am complaining.
Funninly enough colony wars should have been made into a TV series that wouldve rocked, except colony wars red sun that game just made me cry! give me the league fighting the empire anyday than some silly merc. why with all the shouting anyway? its only a game everyone just chill. its not supposed to be real anyway ;-)
conspiarcy my backside, anyhoo that game looked like it would have rocked! imagine fighting the battle of the line!, nothing has yet surpassed TIE fighter in my books! bring on the polygons!
"Meanwhile, lackluster Star Wars and Star Trek games continue to be funded and developed so parents who were sci-fi nuts can live vicariously through their children."
dsl cobra, the site is a little hard to figure out. If you have a lower end computer (but still good enough to play it) go to the 2nd (lower)-right Download section and DL the 220 MB from one of the mirrors.
For a higherend, go for the 275MB DL at the top-right Download section. GL!
As for B5 itself, it is a timeless show that will always hold it's place high in the ranks of the greatest scifi. It's one of the only shows to make me cry =P
I knew some of the guys who worked on it. They tried to get a new development released but never quite made it. I played an alpha version at VOR and it kicked ass. On par with the Wing Commander series, easily, and totally dusted XWing/Tie Fighter.
Why is always the good sci-fi games that get cancelled!? First I hear Star Wars: Battlefront 3 got cancelled and now this.

@Ricardo5801 Contact Cryptic studios. They might like this idea. (I mean they found time for B5's equal, Star Trek, why not?)
And for the record, I have no link with Cryptic, I just play STO, one of their games.
