pop punk,punk, alternative, use picks to get a nice punch sound to the bass cuz it goes well with that type of music. some great bass players play with picks, like rick savage, geme simmions, mark hoppus, mike dirnt, and a ton more. but steve harris from iron maiden uses his fingers but he hits the strings like a hammer, so using ur fingers like that can sound like a pick too

i noticed that you used to have a Fender mark hoppus bass. But sold it to get an Fender american p bass. Wich fretboard do you like more rosewood or maple? Cause i have a Fender geddy lee jazz bass and the fretboard feels great.
pete gets all the money,girls and publicity, but he works the least. He's even got his own tv show. Damn Pete taking advantage of Patrick's songwriting skills.
But maybe you should try something like RHCP or something funky which takes more precision than normal alt rock bands. It'd be good practice to use your fingers more often than a pick.

What bugs me is that Pete wentz is a normal mediocre bassist, sure hes ok but he could never stand up to the greats, but despite his lack of talent, he gets plenty of praise and attention for some reason, fallout boy isnt a standout band and he is not anything special.

i agree that hes not the best bassist. i just got my first bass about maybe 2 months ago and i can learn a fall out boy song in 5 minutes.
i think the reason why he gets so much praise is for his lyrics mostly. and that he does everything else you can imagine.
hes got the fn mtv, clothing line, a couple bars, ect. its getting annoying. i love him but hes putting too much on himself.

while I hafta agree, Pete wentz does nothing "fancy" (and even some things that are gay)...that does not mean he sucks as a bassist.
Yes his bass lines are easy, but they are solid.
These songs would sound stupid if they had fancy fast scales runnin all up and down the neck.
You retards must understand, its not always what you play, sometimes its what you dont play.

Bass is the Glue that holds the melodic and rhythm sections together.You dont always here when its there, but you know when its not.
The bass is like the fat cheerleader holding down the pyramid, while the showoff guitarists jump around doing backflips and whatnot.
Furthermore, The bass is Melodic and rythmic.

Personally, I wouldn't get that one. Yeah, it looks cool but it isn't a very good bass. You would be better of just getting a normal squire.
