This is the shit. I feel privileged that at 27 years old I am one of the minority in my age group that recognizes how great James Dean and this song really is. Whatever 'cool' really means, I would say this is as close as it gets.
@heidibonbon I honestly don't think James Dean is THAT good looking. He's above average, sure. But I think it's more about the way he carries himself that makes him so desirable to women (Ie. His masculine body language, choice of hairstyle, choice in clothing, voice style, etc). Just my opinion is all.
You say shakira,I say Escape the fate You say Akon,I say Bless The fall You say Lopez,I say Systeam of a down You say Ludacris,I say Korn You say rehanna,I say Dope You say lady gaga,I say Bullet for ny vallentine You say madona,I say Eyes set to kill You say Taylor Swift,I say Breaking Benjamin You say Lady Gaga,I say Evanescence You say Miley Cyrus,I say Slipknot You say T-Pain,I say Three Days Grace You say Kesha,I say Linkin Park you say justin bieber, i say Fuck you
I wasn't born for another 20 years after he died, but I think he is, in my opinion, the sexiest man I've ever seen. There was something so attractive about him. Can anyone recommend the best bio on him? I want to know more.
OH my good GOD I adore ths man soooo much does anyone know where I can purchase the gorgeous series of paintings at the end of this??? If so please let me know and thank you so much!
Adore Jimmy the "prettiest" boy I ever seen, and this by FAR the best compiliation of photos with the PERFECT song to accompany it, so thank you so very much for posting it here!!! It's fantastic!!! :)
I notice that the ever so cool James Dean,Montgomery Clift, and Marlon Brando are mentioned, but for some reason Marilyn Monroe isn't.She is in the paintings and in another picture.with Jimmy. She was a good actress with a troubled life, but is thought of as more of as a sex symbol.I'm just barely old enough to remember James Dean.As a kid I did see him in the movie Giant, but I think he was dead before that movie was released.I saw his other two movies on tv.RIP James,Montgomery Marlon, and Marilyn.
@GGE47 I wouldn't say Marilyn was a good actress, I'd say she wanted to be, had the ability be, but was stuck in a contract with the studio who continually cast her in bimbo roles, so we never got to see what she was really capable of.
Great Job ! I got to spend some time with his family (Winslow's) and his high school drama teacher while in Fairmount, Indiana a numbers of years ago, will never forget it. Dean was a great talent !
I love this video clip here!! Well done!! I have always loved that song. It really hits home! But what really hits home is those paintings. Wow, they really hit you emotionally. A real sadness comes over you when looking at them. I guess just knowing these were lives cut too short and the sadness that comes with it. Thanks for sharing this!! RIP to all on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams. <3
james dean rocks! he was great in rebel without a cause! shame he died. only 24, he could have been such a big star and made more films. he died far too young, killed in car accident. rip jimmy and happy b'day.
So sad that he got respect after he died. He practically begged people to be his friend and teach him the ways of acting only for Clift to erase his number and Brando to ignore him. James Dean is more of a legacy than Brando ever was/or. And Montgomery too.
@ForgottenSoul700 He had great acting mentors in NY. The Actor's Studio was his learning tool. He was highly respected for his various Broadway roles--long before becoming a Hollywood actor. Like so many of us, no matter what we have in life there can always be a loneliness. He left his mark like no one else in Hollywood ever had before...his talent, his racing and so much more. He was the ultimate of cool.
It's probably not something that most people realize, but this song is actually one of the more unique pop songs of its time. Compared to most of the music that was out at that time, the overall sound of this song - the bass part, the drums, the beat and the reverbed-out voice - is pretty out-there. Almost verging on an experimental sound. The bendy-sounding strings part and the muffled horn section sound remarkably trippy.
this song is so.....cool and goes w/ his persona so well!!! he was so cool like he was the 1st ever to be the cool brooding guy. everything he did was cool. his charm added to the effect of his mystery. damn it. i wish i was THAT COOL.
RIP James Dean.
how'd he die? was he clinically depressed and dyed from drug overdose? b/c a lot of icons died that way.
That is what everybody believed, even the tow truck driver died in a traffic accident, the guy that bought the car after that died in a crash as well,,, as far as I was able to find out, the car has disappeared. not sure about that part, the other was publicized. Hope that helped
I've liked Def Leppard for decades, but their version of "Rock On" can't touch Davis Essex's. His version is so freaking trippy. If I ever drop acid, I'm going to listen to this song while doing so... just before I play the Wizard of Oz synced with Dark Side of the Moon.
Dean was driving west on U.S. Route 466 (later State Route 46) near Cholame, California when a black-and-white 1950 Ford Custom Tudor coupe, driven from the opposite direction by 23-year-old Cal Poly student Donald Turnupseed, attempted to take the fork onto State Route 41 and crossed into Dean's lane without seeing him. The two cars hit almost head on.
I have got to agree with you!...this original splits into quite few genres of music, rock, psyc, trance, tribal.... I heard this sampled recently in a club in SanFran. Absolutely haunting, and it was not very much changed from this original.
what jack hole thinks def could have covered this song better. This a barefoot wind in your hair kinda song. not sequence and hairspray. Fuck whatever douche thinks this is better sung by someone other than the original artist.
@PitchBlackSunrise you know what man you need to keep that garbage in your mouth because I dont like how you are useing gods name in vain or even useing Jesus as well. I like this song aswell but you dont see me cusing.

You know what people have to realize... THIS SONG WAS FUCKING SUNG IN THE GODDAMN 60s!!!
Of course Def Leopard's version is going to be better~
I, personally, don't like their version.
I like this one!
WHY?
Because its the original, and it has a good 60's rock beat to it.
Stop dissing the fucking song and move on with your goddamn damn~
