  • who else is there at 3:10?

  • dont try to be james dean, be your own james dean thats what matters

  • This is the shit. I feel privileged that at 27 years old I am one of the minority in my age group that recognizes how great James Dean and this song really is. Whatever 'cool' really means, I would say this is as close as it gets.

  • someone accidently pushed the dislike

  • Beautiful tribute! Thank you!

  • The Porsche at 0:27 is the car he died in.

  • BRAD PITT WILL NEVER BE AS BAD ASS AS JAMES DEAN

  • The one who disliked this video won't be missed.

  • Way better looking than Johnny Depp & Brad Pitt combined.

  • @heidibonbon I honestly don't think James Dean is THAT good looking. He's above average, sure. But I think it's more about the way he carries himself that makes him so desirable to women (Ie. His masculine body language, choice of hairstyle, choice in clothing, voice style, etc). Just my opinion is all.

  • Shew... They sure as hell don't make em like James Dean anymore.

  • Sadly whenever I hear this song I think of Baywatch and the music video Hobie did. That was the first time I heard this song :(

  • @piercethevale uh, you mean brad spit looks a wee like him...

  • omg! i love this song and am so happy to have finally found it and a video with pictures of James Dean to go with it :)

  • Does anyone think this guy looks like james franco?

  • @xXxkigsxXx he definitely does. James Franco actually did a James Dean tv movie.

  • great video and song , ! jimmy is the number 1 !

  • awesome video man!

  • @gfjagex111 I'm a girl!

  • @jamesdeanfan Awesome video girl!

  • THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN JAMES AND BRAD IS THAT JAMES WAS A FULL BLOWN GENIUS ACTOR AND BRAD HASN'T EVEN REMOTELY ACHIEVED THAT YET...

  • @piercethevale omg i know!!! i just wrote a comment about that. but he looks better.

  • this guy looks better then brad pitt.

  • I love the picture @ 1:49, never seen it before, very cool.

  • easily one of my favorite songs.

when i was down in the keys a few years ago, this song played on the radio at least like 20 times in the week i was there

  • Thank you very much for posting this song and wonderful video. I love both. ♥

  • I wasn't born for another 20 years after he died, but I think he is, in my opinion, the sexiest man I've ever seen. There was something so attractive about him. Can anyone recommend the best bio on him? I want to know more.

  • @piercethevale More like James Franco... Lol.

  • Love this video with this song! Thanks. ;) Fantastic pictures!

  • Love this video with this song! Thanks. ;) Fantastic pictures!

  • snappy dresser

  • there a lot of people say i look like james dean.

  • @piercethevale no...Brad Pitt looks like him.

  • OH my good GOD I adore ths man soooo much does anyone know where I can purchase the gorgeous series of paintings at the end of this??? If so please let me know and thank you so much!

Adore Jimmy the "prettiest" boy I ever seen, and this by FAR the best compiliation of photos with the PERFECT song to accompany it, so thank you so very much for posting it here!!! It's fantastic!!! :)

  • I notice that the ever so cool James Dean,Montgomery Clift, and Marlon Brando are mentioned, but for some reason Marilyn Monroe isn't.She is in the paintings and in another picture.with Jimmy. She was a good actress with a troubled life, but is thought of as more of as a sex symbol.I'm just barely old enough to remember James Dean.As a kid I did see him in the movie Giant, but I think he was dead before that movie was released.I saw his other two movies on tv.RIP James,Montgomery Marlon, and Marilyn.

  • @GGE47 I wouldn't say Marilyn was a good actress, I'd say she wanted to be, had the ability be, but was stuck in a contract with the studio who continually cast her in bimbo roles, so we never got to see what she was really capable of.

  • Wonderful..... bravo for this great version, cool images and of course, great music.... thanks heaps.... sooo cool!!!

  • i like this song is catchy. good good on the vid

  • This is my daily fix. Thanks so much. Video shots are so perfect with David Essex and Rock On.

  • Great Job ! I got to spend some time with his family (Winslow's) and his high school drama teacher while in Fairmount, Indiana a numbers of years ago, will never forget it. Dean was a great talent !

  • i soo love this. thank you

i also like the def lep version

i am a james dean fan & i think you did a great job

  • @WandaLouGD i just like the def lepard version because of the solo at the end. its awesome.

  • i wish I had grown up in the 1950's

  • I love this video clip here!! Well done!! I have always loved that song. It really hits home! But what really hits home is those paintings. Wow, they really hit you emotionally. A real sadness comes over you when looking at them. I guess just knowing these were lives cut too short and the sadness that comes with it. Thanks for sharing this!! RIP to all on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams. <3

  • fantastic video mate love the music

  • RIP Mr Jimmy Dean!!

  • he made it look simple. and needless to say the camera LOVED him.

  • Thanks for the lovely comments guys! Keep 'em coming!

  • Yes! He played Jett Rink.

  • was this the guy on the movie "giant"?

  • nice video. great work-love this song.

  • james dean rocks! he was great in rebel without a cause! shame he died. only 24, he could have been such a big star and made more films. he died far too young, killed in car accident. rip jimmy and happy b'day.

  • He is so handsome and I love this song...it's so smooth and mellow. I love to listen to it over and over.

  • A perfect combination of song and video--thank you.

  • So sad that he got respect after he died. He practically begged people to be his friend and teach him the ways of acting only for Clift to erase his number and Brando to ignore him. James Dean is more of a legacy than Brando ever was/or. And Montgomery too.

    Rest

    in

    Peace,

    Pretty boy, James Dean

  • @ForgottenSoul700 He had great acting mentors in NY. The Actor's Studio was his learning tool. He was highly respected for his various Broadway roles--long before becoming a Hollywood actor. Like so many of us, no matter what we have in life there can always be a loneliness. He left his mark like no one else in Hollywood ever had before...his talent, his racing and so much more. He was the ultimate of cool.

  • It's probably not something that most people realize, but this song is actually one of the more unique pop songs of its time. Compared to most of the music that was out at that time, the overall sound of this song - the bass part, the drums, the beat and the reverbed-out voice - is pretty out-there. Almost verging on an experimental sound. The bendy-sounding strings part and the muffled horn section sound remarkably trippy.

  • this song is so.....cool and goes w/ his persona so well!!! he was so cool like he was the 1st ever to be the cool brooding guy. everything he did was cool. his charm added to the effect of his mystery. damn it. i wish i was THAT COOL.

    RIP James Dean.

how'd he die? was he clinically depressed and dyed from drug overdose? b/c a lot of icons died that way.

  • @sweethaert12 James dean died in a car crash. He hit a telephone pole. After that, anybody that used his car or even parts of it died in crashes.

  • really? that sounds kinda from a movie. was it like cursed?

  • That is what everybody believed, even the tow truck driver died in a traffic accident, the guy that bought the car after that died in a crash as well,,, as far as I was able to find out, the car has disappeared. not sure about that part, the other was publicized. Hope that helped

  • He hit a 1949 Ford Tudor almost head-on, and the wrecked Porsche ended up next to a telephone pole.

  • excellent job on the vid kid :)

"Dream as if you'll live forever, Live as if you'd die tomorrow" - James Dean ROCK ON!

  • kösszi

  • James Dean - the epitome of cool!

Does anyone know where to get some good James Dean t shirts?

  • Amazing job! The song is perfct!

  • Thanks!

  • Who does the artwork at the end?

  • Chris Consani

  • Gottfried Helnwein

  • Mr. Cool Himself. ~ we miss everything that should have been.

    Great Tribute ~

    RIP James Dean

  • God, that song is just so cool....

    Great video, too....

Thanks for creating and posting it....

  • awesome awesome

  • I like this version better it sounds...smoooooth

  • R.I.P James Dean! We miss you!! :)

    54 years ago today

  • Groovy!

  • I love the song. Great job on the slide show.

  • ORIGINAL IS BEST! one of the best songs of all time.....................and one of legend

  • excellent collages of those clippings

  • I've liked Def Leppard for decades, but their version of "Rock On" can't touch Davis Essex's. His version is so freaking trippy. If I ever drop acid, I'm going to listen to this song while doing so... just before I play the Wizard of Oz synced with Dark Side of the Moon.

  • Why is the artist performing this song not mentioned on this video page? Of course it's James Dean - duh - but who's singing it?

  • Artist is David Essex (sp), I had to go look it up, thanks video submitter :p

  • Love James Dean,,,,Love this song, dont care how old it is!!!!

  • Dean was driving west on U.S. Route 466 (later State Route 46) near Cholame, California when a black-and-white 1950 Ford Custom Tudor coupe, driven from the opposite direction by 23-year-old Cal Poly student Donald Turnupseed, attempted to take the fork onto State Route 41 and crossed into Dean's lane without seeing him. The two cars hit almost head on.

  • You know what people have to realize... THIS SONG WAS FUCKING SUNG IN THE GODDAMN 60s!!!

Of course Def Leopard's version is going to be better~

I, personally, don't like their version.

    I like this one!

    WHY?

Because its the original, and it has a good 60's rock beat to it.

Stop dissing the fucking song and move on with your goddamn damn~

    Jesus.

  • I have got to agree with you!...this original splits into quite few genres of music, rock, psyc, trance, tribal.... I heard this sampled recently in a club in SanFran. Absolutely haunting, and it was not very much changed from this original.

  • what jack hole thinks def could have covered this song better. This a barefoot wind in your hair kinda song. not sequence and hairspray. Fuck whatever douche thinks this is better sung by someone other than the original artist.

  • @PitchBlackSunrise Actually, the original David Essex version - the one we're hearing now - was 1973. Not quite the 60s.

  • @PitchBlackSunrise the song was sung in the early seventies a hit written and sang by david essex

  • @PitchBlackSunrise you know what man you need to keep that garbage in your mouth because I dont like how you are useing gods name in vain or even useing Jesus as well. I like this song aswell but you dont see me cusing.

  • @PitchBlackSunrise this song was a hit in 1973-74

  • oh my god, beautful song, unbelievably good, so good deaf people can hear it =D

  • r.i.p. james

  • Im no fan of James Dean, but, I do love this song

  • exactly!!

  • its too painful for me to watch him

hes so captivating and tortured and beautiful and it just beats me down

i love him, but i can only do it once every few years

but your tribute is great, absolutely.

    and the song is perfect

    thanks for sharing

  • R I P james dean best actor to ever live.... =(

  • Comment removed

  • Nice graphics to the song!

    Thanks for sharing it jamesdeanfan!

    Kat~

  • I usually despise videos of songs without their intended clip. I'm not aware of a clip for this song but this was a great slideshow! James Dean was and still is a legend.

  • Lol i havn't heard of him before, except from the Def Leppard song and their cover they did for this song...ill have to wikipedia this dude.

  • ....isn't this song about a girl?? he says "prettiest GIRL i've ever seen."

  • its rock on by david essex

  • Really great pictures of James Dean here!!

  • Beautiful song. Beautiful boy.

James Dean, Montgomery Clift and Marlon Brando were the Brad Pitt, Garrett Hedlund and Orlando Bloom of their time. It's only sad that he(James Dean)didn't have enough time to show the world what he could do.

  • I don't agree.

The stars you mentioned can't be even compared to the ACTORS like Jimmy Dean, Clift and Brando. They were authentic not built on a table.

  • @white2925 Amen to that, for that matter music can't compare either, sure there some talent out there, but nothing like the music that started it all & they all had their own teeth back then unlike the fake white choppers that everyone in hollywood has today!

  • much more brillant then Brad Pitt

  • Who sings this remix ?? I have heard it on the radio, but this is a much better version than Michael Damian version ?????

  • It's the real version. By David Essex

  • If you find out let us know. Thanks!

  • Def Leppard also covered this song. This version is MUCH cooler... Someone mentioned it used to be cool by the pool, and I agree!

  • Lol i dunno, at lesat the Def Leppard one has some substance, or a climax of some point. This song kind of builds up to that point to where you start to get excited....then it just ends.

  • I used to have this 8 track tape. It was cool by the pool in 1980. It's still cool. Thanks for the video back drop.

  • my dad sang this song to my mom. all the time but now he is gone

  • sorry to hear that =[ R I P to him.

  • i love this song. ROCK ON

  • Love this song and a great slideshow to go with it.

  • I Like the slides too:)

  • nice slides too:)

  • heard this on the radio this mornin.. like the song!

  • the memory of jimmy dean will always remain in my life
