@tysnyder1988 I know several geocachers that are using the ipod to go geocaching with. That is very cool and I can't wait to see what we will be using down the road.
@spuddymills I wondered when someone was going to mention Ipads. My question is durability. What do you do to keep it safe from droppage, moisture and keeping it clean?
@headhardhat well i just keep it in my bag which is where i keep everything. i never just carry it in my hands because of those disasters that could happen
@s12pendler Depending on how much geocaching you do can generate reams of paper. That is why many of the GPS units out there have paperless functionality. One electronic device that usually has multiple functionality can last for years and yes I would rather have that than cut down all those trees. Thanks for chiming in.
Great video as always. I have a Sony Vaio laptop with blue-tooth as an option under the Vaios connection manning. I also have an internet capable sprint phone with blue-tooth... I messed around with it a bit but couldn't figure out how to make it work. Any advice or links to info or tutorials?
@smrp1984 I cant put links in my comments. Go to my Obsessed blog (just google headhardhat blog) and in the search put the word WAP. It will bring up a posting that shows how I did my hook up.. Hope it helps. -HHH
Your videos are wonderful, I haven't found one GeoCache before and since I have started watching your videos I found 4! I'm having fun and thanks to you will keep going!
Well done. A great overview. With so many technical options available, and becoming available, there is no way that you cover them all, so an entry level approach is the only way. .Good stuff. :-)
@rog3112 Thanks, that was the whole idea. For many geocachers who have been doing it for a while already have many of the ideas I presented. This is for someone who may not be so much of a techie a me ;) Thanks for chiming in!
And I connect to the computer with my DeLorme P30 via a cable and download the caches I want to find....and I consider that paperless....I really thought that option would also have been mentioned.
@kelhapam Actually we have a couple of videos showing that very thing with a Garmin 60CSx and an Etrex. This particular video I just wanted to show some alternatives for people who may want to go that way. We will be doing another video soon just on the different GPSrs that are available. Thanks for mentioning it!
One of the first true GPSr units that I purchased was a Etrex Vista which is very similar to the Legend. The Etrex units are great for someone who needs a GPSr and is just starting out with Geocaching and does not want to invest a whole lot of money right off the bat. They are a good unit for hiking, biking, etc. Though they have problems with accuracy under medium to heavy tree cover. This can cause some frustration. I would recomment the 60CSx instead if the budget allows. Thanks for watching.
I agree, the Oregon and other GPSr that have paperless functionality are really great. For many though they are a bit out of reach so I focused on alternatives. We will be doing a video just on those types of GPS units down the road. Thanks for watching.. - HHH
Handy as always

Are you saying a couple of sheets of paper are worse for the environment than an electronic device? Are you serious?

I purchased a refurbished (new w/ warranty) Garmin Colorado 300 online for $220.
I love its Paperless functionality (except for puzzle caches/ still would like paper for those).
Now I think Paperless Geocaching is the ONLY way to go.
joybuzzer 1 year ago
@joybuzzer Couldn't agree more and you will see that most of the higher end GPSr units are all going paperless. Thanks for watching.

I use a Garmin Oregon; I really like having all the information I need in one device so I don't have to carry too much stuff around with me.
