update: i've listened through deadly buzz about 17 times. it's still just as good as the first time i went through it. if you don't own this cd and you claim to be an irish music buff kindly make your way to their page and buy two copies for yourself and a friend.
@DJFozter These guys are excellent ...tuneful , good intonation, imaginative without destroying the music, good use of ornaments , harmony ...and prepared to experiment somewhat.
Hardanger fiddles are NORWEGIAN. I've met Caoimhín, and he's very interested in a lot of Norwegian fiddle music, hence his getting a Hardanger fiddle for himself.
He says that he likes to play it along with the whistle due to its very bright tone.
I believe it's a slip jig called "The Foxhunters." It might sound different than the versions you find because Mick is playing it on a flat set of pipes here (B, I think?). Good luck.
It's called "The Humours of Derrycrossane". I know it in G, but they are playing it in D, except that those are "flat" pipes pitched in B, so it's in B.
Caoimhin plays a Norwegian Hardingfela. And it would go really well with the b flat chanter. A lot of the Norwegian hardingfela tunes are in b flat, I think. I don´t play the instrument myself and I can´t recall the tuning of it now. Maybe some hardingfela player can assist?
The Hardingfele has many tunings. The most widely used is ADAE (from the bottom string), which is often transposed much higher (BEBF# and CFCG are common). Caoimhin's fiddle is tuned AEAE and is transposed and sounds BF#BF# (this tuning is not uncommon in Norway). I've never heard Irish music played on a Hardingfele, but I think it sounds wonderful here.
Smashing stuff chaps. Just beautiful.
