  • It sounds so dreamy and beautiful!

  • That is rock music, literally...

I suddenly want to hear him play Rock on it, wonder if he takes visitor requests...

  • Sounds like Minecraft music

  • the song is probably religious in nature. the guy who made this place was some unusual sect of something. besides the stalagtites can only handle so much playing pressure.

  • wut is it playin? it sounds like a rendition of "A Mighty Fortress is our God" with missing notes

  • I've been there! It's so cool being right next to the keyboard and listening to the sound come in from all over the cave

  • that would be so cool to play on! i do love the strings but the litho-phones ive never messed with.... a little upright bass and pretty much anything with a fret board ive messed with a little but that...... would be the most cool thing to play on!

  • i was there summer 2009...i bought the cd of the organ being played by monte maxwell.....i actually felt more alive in that cave than anywhere else ive been to in my life, even my life

  • it's hauntingly beautiful...

  • its almost more of a percussion instrument really. It sounds like a cross between a Marimba and a Harp. Really beautiful sound.

  • they HAVE to get cameron carpenter to play there

    so cool

  • It's a great instrument... but the reason for the name 'organ' is because the stalactites resemble organ pipes... this instrument is technically a lithophone, something like a xylophone with rock instead of wood.

  • @jeffamarie Actually, the reason it is called an "organ" is because the console that it is played on is set up like a pipe organ. One would need to know how to play a pipe organ in order to understand how to play this instrument. Otherwise, you are correct.

  • @jeffamarie a xylophone is made of metal, you mean a marimba which is made of wood. fucking retard.

  • @mytotallyawesomename holy christ dude look up what a xylophone is before you call me a retard - I went to college for music education lol the word itself means "wooden sound". but good job; yes, a marimba is ALSO made of wood - so is the balafon, the gyil, and a clarinet, and your head.

  • @mytotallyawesomename btw douchebag, if you want to know what metal keyboard percussion instruments are called: metallophones - which include the glockenspiel, and the vibraphone. I'm still wondering what your excuse is for being a total fucking moron - a chimpanzee could probably have found that information on wikipedia. lol you seemed so sure of yourself too; you must be the biggest ass on YouTube.

  • @jeffamarie HOW DID U KNOW FAGGOT? SMART ASS MOTHERFUCKING APE! GOOD JOB MAN YOU ARE SO SMART!!! NOW GO DO SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE WITH THAT OH SO POWERFUL AND GODLIKE BRAIN OF YOURS.

  • @mytotallyawesomename You mean like... write a third symphony? I was actually doing that while I was checking my email and saw your message.

Hey, no bad feelings, okay? We all make mistakes.

  • @mytotallyawesomename

the most insulting word you can think of is gayfag?

    @jeffamarie

    well played.

  • @jeffamarie how goes the symphony?

  • @agile52 almost finished!

  • becuase it is spread over 3 1/2 acres doesnt make it largest, that would bead if you got a glockespiel and spread it over 10 miles it would be largest, no.

Its actually a small instrument with around 100o stalactpipes playing at most. My churches pipes organ is bigger with over 3,000 pipes. THe largest musical instrument in the world is the atlantic city convention hall organ with over 33,000 pipes. THe room its in is 500ft long, 300ft wide ad 137ft high( covers a 7 acre site)

  • I was just at Luray. It is the largest NATURAL instrument in the world. NOT the largest organ-just the largest NATURAL instrument. It was beautiful. I understand Atlantic City has the largest PIPEorgan...but the organ at Luray Caverns is NOT a PIPE organ! I guess I will have to upload my video, which also has the tour guide speaking and explaining the details. And the song played is"A Mighty Fortress is our God".I wouldn't mind my next trip to be this organ you speak about in Atlantic City!

  • I've been there and it sounded great!!!

  • I think they mean the largest natural instrument.

  • this instrument isnt natural, they changed the shapes fo the stalacpipes to get them to sound at the correct pitch.

  • YES it IS natural....they took the time to tap every stalagtite to get the correct pitch for the gospel they play. So, IT IS THE LARGEST "NATURAL" INSTRUMENT IN THE WORLD.And I don't doubt that Atlantic City has the largest "PIPEorgan" in the world...but this is rubber mallots striking STALAGTITES---NOT pipes as in your Atlantic City PIPE organ. :)and they did NOT reconstruct ANYTHING. It is a natural beauty-NOT manmade construction! :)

  • the cavern is the instrument.. the organ board is just to access / play it.. so it is the largest musical instrument in the world.. im sure your organ is the biggest in LA :) but this aint no organ..

  • The largest musical intrument int the world is the atlantic city convention hall organ, it has 33114 pipes and 1235 stops. Its also the loudest. The stalacpipe organ is the probably the instrument which covers the most area. It convention hall organ is recognised as the largest musical instrument by the guiness book of records and loads of other organisations.

  • Largest musical organ in a cavern.

  • NO, its not an organ, they work with pipes and air, not hammers and stalacpipes.

  • what do you exactly mean by largest? largest as in area it takes up? because in terms of stops etc the organ of the First Congregational Church in LA is the biggest functional one

  • the largest musical instrument is the atlantic city convention hall organ. it has 1235 stops and 33114 pipes. its also the most powerful and is the only organ in the world to have stops on 100 inches of wind pressure.

  • LOL I live in Page County and they are always taking you on field trips to the Luray Caverns so you kinda grow tired of it I mean the first 5 to 10 times are cool but after that... not so much.

  • I've been there before. The acoustics sound really good in the caverns. It's amazing how they had to tap each stalactite separately just to find the right ones. Thanks for posting this vid, I forgot how it sounded.
