As much as I loved this whole film but what truly got to me was the end.... I found myself tearing up for some reason, possibly because I am a highly sensitive person but in being a young girl of color in America and forced to bow to certain bounds, I found myself relating to both sides, that of Manoj and Hari. Bravo Hari, wonderful writing!

It's possible Manoj is a comment on someone like Russell Peters. The last word in this video is "paint", which is a word that Peters uses in his first comedy special. Hari could have used the word "blackface" or "facepaint" instead of just "paint".
A long way from comedy night my old friend! At least some of us had real aspirations and is following up on them! So I get I don't get anything for being above average at almost anything?
I watched this after you referred to it in the Klocek interview. One thing that struck me was how hesitant you were to give an example, and that got me thinking if you were worried if Manoj would backfire ( it appears so from some of the comments). Unrelated, but I love the "if I can make it in this country..." part; describes privileged mofo uncles perfectly.
Also, what's your opinion of Russell Peters? I see some Manoj in him, but I can't help but feel that there's something more to it.
Holy fucking shit. I remember this from the Blue Scholars album release party for Bayani back in May of '07. God damn, it's funny but it was so annoying because this movie just kept playing and Blue Scholars wasn't playing yet. Oh well it was a dope show. And the director of this is Sabzi's (producers) brother.
The best was when Hari goes "I don't even look like Manoj, I've got glasses and don't have a beard!".... and then in the very next shot Manoj has glasses. It took me until then to realize that Hari and Manoj were the same person -- pure brilliance.
Fantastic documentary! I thought there were certain undertones that came through while Manoj's audience was interviewed. It really felt like they had completely misunderstood what India was about and to me that was more interesting and humorous than anything else.
I thought Hari was absolutely fantastic!! Hilarious! Manoj was funny with his over the top sarcasm during the interviews but his act I thought was really rather weak.
Hari, this is brilliant! I love it beginning to end. You did an excellent job of expressing what's happening without shoving it down our throats. It's like taking medicine with orange juice. It taste the same but you're getting better. You're healing the world. I want more! Keep'em coming.

YouTube suggested a video of "Kim Kardashian's Booty" after this. The algorithms understand Hari's audience.

Its unfortunate that this level of intelligent comedy wont go mainstream because its not "bro" enough for America.

What exactly is the "I get called 'Uncle' all the time" joke? Is it an "Uncle Tom" thing or am I misinterpreting it?

Just my two cents.

Manoj is a character. The actor/comedian playing him is standup Hari Kondabolu, who also wrote the script for this short.

russell peters already did the whole 'accent' shtick.
And he did the whole asians are making babies jokes.
Manoj is talented, but russell peters is HUGE and having the same set is weak
