I was just noticing how this clip has a total viewing of not even a mere 16,000 (and many of those is ME going to it a million times)??? And crap like 50 cent and Harry Potter horseshit has a zillion...what's that say about the future...we're fucking doomed...
It is possible that that actual universe may be as many time larger than the known universe as the known universe is than a subatomic particle or that much larger than that or it could be tetrations of magnetude larger. This would mean far more galaxies than there are atoms in the know universe. Based on the fact that we keep more objects the deeper we look the actual universe would on average be many times more densly packed than the known universe.
Hmmm... if one model could make accurate predictions and another could not then I would conclude that the former is more likely to be correct. A not (in my opinion) unreasonable conclusion for the average layman.
Yes, but those with long running observations according to the ptolemic method had noticed that it was becoming less accurate as time went on. Also in order to account for small oddities in the movement of the planets, mostly stemming from Ptolemy's explanation of retrograde motion, his system had grown complex and idiosyncratic.
Copernicus' model did not work nearly as well as ptolemy's for predictions. ptolemy's were amazingly accurate, especially considering how wrong his idea was. Copernicus' could not make accurate predictions, so even though it was more correct (though they didn't know) it was rejected. though i'm sure the bias also played a role.
I would argue that the catholic church has come quite a bit further in trying to understand god through science than the majority of other religious lines. The Catholic church still owns some of the largest telescopes in Italy, Protestant churches tend to own none. It was a Catholic Priest who coined the term "Big Bang" which was praised by the Catholic church as being a scientific proof, and account of creation... "god" may work in ways that don't adhere to our assumptions, religious or not...
This is only because the Catholic religion is far more organized and has a central form of government. Protestant churches do not conform to one centralized power. (IE, the Pope and Vatican) The Catholic Church has been known through out history to be the biggest suppressor of scientific knowledge.
Watch Richard Dawkins interviews Father Coyne. Historically there were the dark ages etc. but they've evolved to like beefbonger so gracioulsy points out, to understnad through science more so than the more recent, wackier? sects.

@28october19731 Trust me. That is the least of our worries. Rarely is what it is edifying also what is popular.

God's Plan:
1. Create base life form. Watch it evolve.
2. Watch telly while said creation either thrives or destroys itself.
3. Tea, read some Harry Potter, smoke a joint, go to bed.

@JackWisps
ptolomys worked better for predictions because he was trying to make a system based around those predictions.

The catholic church is another deception to God and science. That is one of the gouls of science (most sciences), to understand God.
