The fall of Germany after WWII yielded very advanced weapons technology to the Russians and American in missile ballistics, tanks, nukes, and jets. We have always been in the shadows of our Russians brothers. But again, leading in that area is not what we are trying to do. We just want to stay competitive and overwhelm with numbers. And the reason Militaryism was a big probelm was because world leading powers at that time (U.K, Russsia, and Germany) never paid attention or tryed to stop the other army from growing to strong, U.S is now world leader and gets involved in every countrys military...and so far no WW3...huh? When you have a global economy it is uneconomical for countries to spar militarily. It is good to have atleast two world powers so they can keep eachother in check. Is it good that the U.S. is capable of dominating so many? No. China realizes this and builds their army.
