  • The "stary" shape in the middle tells me you got the math wrong. Don't neglect J, and to make the field equations, tractable, ignore Heaviside's formulation, and either use Hertz's or Einstein's relativity.

Don't neglect J - Bussard claimed that the "balancing" of the J vs the externally applied B was what made the device such a good electron trap. Also - it doesn't contain plama - there are always more electrons than positive charges, so most empirical thermodynamic plasma equations are wrong.

  • If I were at this lecture I'd probably raise my hand and ask if he could talk faster. Yes, we get what he's saying (we're not un-intelligent) so he doesn't need to speak down to use. Just wastes time by speaking so slow.

  • There are, well, er, six metal rings, um, ah, and the six rings, um, have current running though them...

I think the word that is on the tip of your tongue and which you are desperately failing to grasp is 'electromagnet'.

I'm afraid that after 6 minutes spent failing to tell me anything new, combined with the lack of technical language appropiet to the discussion, and the less than ideal presentation skills used make it hard to take this video seriously.

  • If you spent the time the read the "more info" on the right side of this page, he goes on to explain that he is no expert, Ill quote it since your screen resolution must be 640x480 that the right pane of this page must be cut off from your view.

"This is by no means comprehensive. I do not claim to be an expert. Hopefully, this will spark a conversation, and further investigation by honest experts, into this validity of this device."

So stop being a ass anticarrot.

  • I completely agree. in a previous video he wasn't even sure that the strong nuclear force was the atomic force that needed to overcome to create fusion. How the hell can you legitimately work on a fusion energy project and not know that for sure. looks like another cold fusion claim.

  • @ubrbzkr : title of video please.

  • @ubrbzkr Sure this guy is an amateur, but does that make this information Not Valid? I think this is a college guy doing a presentation. The Polywell is an interesting idea, regardless. If you get so worked up about it, why don't YOU make a YouTube video on it?

  • IF the project is again under Navy embargo, I hope the US navy at least gives them proper funding for a real size reactor.

  • internal elecrostatic??

  • I'm a little confused why the speaker says "internal" several times instead of "inertial." What's up with that?

  • This looks like some college presentation, so its some young guy who was assigned some presentation and he either chose or was assigned rober bussard as the topic of his presentation. So i would understand the mistakes.

  • The peer review of the polywell fusion system is positive! They were able to reproduce Bussard`s incredible results!

  • "The peer review of the polywell fusion system is positive! They were able to reproduce Bussard`s incredible results! " please cite this. i have been unable to find disclosed proof of reproduction.

  • You wont find evidence of the peer review panel. All information regarding new polywell research is under a gag order and can not be talked about until the project expires. This is standard operating procedure for military research.

From my understanding the WB-7 data went in front of a Navy Peer Review panel. The navy since has order the creation of WB-8, so it is safe to assume the peer review was positive.

You can find the WB-7&8 solicitations through the citations on wikipedia.

  • It produces a charge gradient, I'm not sure how anyone would expect otherwise given the nature of how magnetic fields affect charged particles.

  • A mistake, I should mention. The Polywell does not produce a central point charge of electrons, nor does it confine them in the normal sense. Dr. Bussard adopted the description Inertial Electrodynamic Fusion instead of Inertial Electrostatic Fusion because people seemed to believe this was the case. All the charged species in the machine are in constant motion. The charge buildup in the center of the device is the result of charged species in motion rapidly traversing the center of the machine.

  • Of coarse a lot has happened since the video was posted on Google. The Navy funded WB6 and it was built, performed to specs; then WB7, built, and with some adjustments, performed to specs, then the Navy took the whole project black and we no longer get to see what is happening but the original contract called for a power reactor to be built after WB7 if WB7 performed to specs.

  • I thought it had not been confirmed if WB-7 performed to all of Doctor Bussard's predictions? Has there been a more recent update? Last I heard, the proposal for funding was being presented back in August.

  • Initially this was the case; but after some adjustments which involved spacing the coils so they didn't touch resolved the issue, at least that was the last word I got before everything went silent as imposed by our US Navy.

  • Did the ONR decide to fund them based on their August report? If they're back under a Navy embargo then that seems like a definitive yes, which, while great news, is unfortunate as it may be years or decades before the public gets all the details.

  • On 9-11-09 The Navy Increased Funding to 7.8 Million. This is the highest funding has ever been. Have they found something? Nobody is saying.

  • @PolywellFan4512 : another 12-13 months before they're out from under the Navy publishing embargo.

  • @ostralopithicus I don't know
