its called sweeping. look it up. its hard to learn at first but it is very helpful once you are accomplished at it. if you ever listen to atreyu, or bring me the horizon, a lot of their solos and just songs in general use sweep picking. all it basically is is using hammer on's and pull off's in a scale while "sweeping" or strumming the guitar strings down and then back up and repeat. check out some vids on it
