Infantry, Ranger School, Rangers, 3rd SFG, in that order for almost all of my younger years. The Army sucks. Period. If you have a choice between fry cook and army, choose the former.
All the fights you get into will either be so far away you can't see your enemy (most of the time)
or so close you could reach out and touch him (very very rare.)
Overall it is NOT a place to just up and "decide" to go to. The pay sucks shit, and you are pretty much guaranteed to get fucked out of your benefits when you get home.
The parts in which it isn't boring are the single most terrifying of your life. You will remember them years later and cringe.
A typical day goes like this:
Patrol for hours upon hours upon hours in the 115 degree heat with full battle rattle on. Hand out shit to civilians.
On some occasions something will either blow up, or someone will start shooting. You won't be able to see where they are and after an hour or so they will either die or run away.

Both. I volunteered and they extended my sentence, I mean, excuse me, my tour, all the time. I only volunteered because at that point, the only thing I had the resume for was the army. Infantry, Ranger School, Rangers, 3rd SFG, in that order for almost all of my younger years. The Army sucks. Period. If you have a choice between fry cook and army, choose the former.

All the fights you get into will either be so far away you can't see your enemy (most of the time)
or so close you could reach out and touch him (very very rare.)
Overall it is NOT a place to just up and "decide" to go to. The pay sucks shit, and you are pretty much guaranteed to get fucked out of your benefits when you get home.

The parts in which it isn't boring are the single most terrifying of your life. You will remember them years later and cringe.
A typical day goes like this:
Patrol for hours upon hours upon hours in the 115 degree heat with full battle rattle on. Hand out shit to civilians.
On some occasions something will either blow up, or someone will start shooting. You won't be able to see where they are and after an hour or so they will either die or run away.

The war was Khomeini's fault, Saddam wanted to make good relations with Iran but Khomeini funded Shia extremists in Iraq and refused to give back a small coastline which Iran occupied illegally.
