  • Anybody got any saran wrap coz I think I might get lucky!!! :)

  • You gotta be an ole burnt out hippie (like me) to truly appreciate this stuff!! Maybe after vorpal4444 gets outta grade school he will! Peace bro!

  • Heh vorpal4444: how would you like to meet Johnny Pissoff? It's assholes like you that need they're ass kicked!!! Come on down to Texas aand look me up!! THE FUGS RULE!!!

  • Claire June. Claire June, you done left me for someone else....ah the 60s...

  • Brings back the 70's when I first discovered these guys.

  • hey! Does anyone remember the theatre where the fugs played upstairs and some great blues combo (don't remember their name) played downstairs in the basement. I been Wracking what's left of my brains for years trying to remember?

  • The off key singing and reckless attitude is what's good about it. The hell with all that polished dead music that people have been brainwashed by.

  • @chillepalmerz I agree, I'd rather be brainwashed by offkey singing and a reckless attitude every time.

  • My friend once said this was one of the greatest songs ever written, cause I think he could relate.....

  • Im not going to lie i like slightly stoopid version of this song more, its just more my type of music, but im glad i found this version because its good in its own unique way!

I didnt even think this kind of music was around in the 80's!

  • @SavageRC1

Yeah I second ur opinion different times though for sure good lyrics slightly stoopid is just more my sound.

  • @davegrove1987 Im glad im not the only one that feels this way haha!

  • @SavageRC1

    1965 this was released.

Notice the beach boys guitar licks?

  • I love all the people saying the fugs suck, because slightly stoopid liked them so much they paid tribute to them by COVERING their song.

Slightly stoopid obviously don't agree with you, or they wouldn't have covered the fugs.

  • I hate the Fugs..... they represent a stage in my 35 year ol' life wich can't be found in modern music.... Fuck the Fugs :)) Are any of you mofus still alive btw ?

    Vorpal !

  • You have no fuckin clue how subversive this was in 65. We used to get toasted and sing this song as we weaved through Forest Park

  • This is not I Couldn't Get High

  • It crawled in to my hand ....Honest!

  • Consider me MINDFUCKED!

  • Who the fuck is slightly stoopid?

  • the fugs hung out at beat poets ferenghettis in the Village and bitch about the war society and what not he said form a band and they did....they got their message across listen to their first album then live filth I think it is what a differenc! Great band who didnt give a fuck about the critics they cared about the people!!

  • I am not condoning use by any means, but there is not one drug user anywhere that this has not happened to.

  • wait... how did the fugs cover a slightly stoopid song almost half a century before it was originally released? can someone help me? i'm seriously confused.

  • @woberkehr lol your funny......obviously it was slightly stupid who covered a fugz song

  • @woberkehr -hi-i''m sure that someone has responded to you already, but just in case...The Fugs did this originally,in '66 i think.they were long gone as a band before SS even had pubes. history,my child.everything new is something old.

  • @MrOldgummer no I understand that completely... I'm just wondering about how this works with respect to the context of the space/time continuum. Slightly Stoopid wrote this song in we'll say 2001 or something. The Fugs covered it in 1966. I just don't understand that!!!! How is that possible? It does not conform to my previous understanding of how time works.

  • @woberkehr -hi-looks like you've got replies already, but just to clarify-recording the song and composing the song are two different things.i think that if you look at the credits for the SS version on their CD,you'll see the writing credited to Ken Weaver, who i believe was the drummer for The Fugs.if they're saying they wrote it,they are liars-and that would be the best thing i can say about them.ALWAYS check the credits on records-it'll learn ya some.

  • @MrOldgummer

it's a fact that checking, and double-checking credits on a record is of import Mr. Oldgummer (cool tag btw), however I'm not sure we gain ground when we use the word 'liars', as “Imitation is the highest form of flattery”.

  • He sings off key, that much is obvious, but you have to understand, this was an early manifestation of the punk mentality. I know that's a bullshit cliche that people use for lots of mid 60s bands, but with these guys it's actually true. They wanted to play the most un-polished, rebellious music they could, with very obscene lyrics...so it was conscious, at least. My opinion? It's really funny, I can say that much.

  • it sounds like a cheap raw sounding garage band playing a show at a sleazy hotel in the early 60's. i like it

  • @bongtoker420 sounds like you were there in Spirit! its all good!

  • get higher @wobbls - what, did you name yourself after a half-baked '80s toy? Ha! guess you never could get h*#h either. Knew a dude like that once...kept trying though. You should too. Listen...One Tin Soldier - Coven and etc., etc., et al. peas

  • slightly stoopid can lick deez... They suck. These guys were @ the forefront before such great bands that took over music in 1966 changed the world.

  • @deadboyee yeah slightly stoopid sucks hahahahahahaha idiot

  • the fugs are so fucking sick , i wish more people respected music like this is way better then like lil wayne and shit like that !

  • you stoopid fans are just that - you gotta be kidding me when you diss the fugs - one of the greatest american rock n roll bands of all fugging time.

  • I saw them sing this at the stone balloon in new haven

  • Just found out they were the original artists of this song not Slightly Stoopid. Now I wish I had never heard this version.

  • @Wobbls same, this shit sucked

  • @88Sublime96 + Wobbls Come on guys, this is protopunk at its finest, this is roots right here. Slightly Stoopid covered it for a reason, show some respect for the elders.

  • @bread97439 Fine I respect them. But this still sounds shitty

  • @88Sublime96 This hardly sounds shitty. Great band, great music, great sound. Saying the fugs sound like shit is like saying Bob Dylan wasn't the voice of a generation.

  • @Tipperman Shiiiiiiiteh

  • @Tipperman

The entire dylan generation was tone-deaf?

  • I am glad too see people relize that Slightly Stoopid did not write this song. If people would study the roots of their music it would be more enjoyable to them. The 60's and 70's were the best !!!!

  • stoopid all the wayyyy!!!!!

  • dude this version is tight. i always thought slightly stoopid was the original artist.

    this kicks so much ass!

  • damn i wish i was alive in the 60s. i want a fuckin time machine

  • 60"s ! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH !

  • When this album came out, I had to have my friends mom get it for me. She got high. My parents wouldn't let me have it. Imagine that. I almost forgot about this until I heard that one of the FUGS died in his eighties. See, dope kept him alive all these years. I'm still FUGGIN at 60!

  • Have this album. Know the problem.

  • love love love this song.

  • fugs is GO

  • Thumbed to the Lower East Side with a friend in'65. Ended up at Ed Sanders's Peace Eye Bookstore. He had a "crash pad " bulletin board there. I still have weird flashbacks about the place we went to "crash." Can't remember which were bigger: the rats or the cockroaches.............15 years later I moved to NYC and I treasure my first encounter with her..............

    . '

  • fuck slightly stoopid's cover, and fuck everyone posting who can't dig the fugs.

    you suck.

    kill yourselves.

    c'mon fugs, let's roll.

  • @jakebarg

i feel this, i like the stoopid one too

  • @jakebarg

im feelin this orrigal one, i like the stoopid one too tho

  • these guys were so raw and sweet and truthful

  • Wow, I thought Slightly Stoopid wrote this.

  • I like this version! You can tell they're frustrated that they couldn't get high.

  • tragic song

  • im gonna go with slightly stoopid on this one...theirz is super chill

  • i fuckin hate ppl who think the slightly stoopid version is better that shit sucks ass this is a million times more original!!!!

  • thanks for posting i hadnt heard this since early 90's LOL's

  • crap - I did better than this with just a couple of POS tape recorders, ping-ponging between them.

  • @lundehund44

Then go con a record company into giving you a multi album contract. I'm sure we shall be hearing from you.

  • this is shit compared to slightly stoopid's

  • this is good but slightly stoopids version is way better

  • damm i thought the slightly stoopid cover was sick till i heard the real one

  • Ahhh...the memories. These guys were wonderful. I would love to see Dirty Old Man on YT somewhere though.

  • Haha. I can totally relate to this song.

  • You couldn't say it in `65 but no big deal now, they were really the village fucks!

  • Yo Stinky...haven't heard this sad lament for ages...brought a tear to my eye...thanks for a truly transcendental moment...

  • friend had this in '66 everyone listened to it it got all scratched up so much played!
