What an incredible VOICE with so so much PASSION..no one can ever fill your shoes my DARLING..u r still the BEST.U still amaze me each day after allll these years. They dont and will never make music like yours ever again in this lifetime.
Phyllis was BI-POLAR... love alone wasn't enough to keep her alive unfortunately. Her issues were not a lack of love it was a chemical imbalance. That was a nice thought though WMSPREZ. I wish it were that simple but it's really not.
@Kaknelson well, the video (mp4) format of the complete Blue Note set can be found here on Youtube. If you want to purchase the DVD you can visit a site called ioffer. I'm not sure abut where you can get the mp3 though
She's one of the all-time greats 4real. I love Chaka's version, then Phylis's, then mine on my channel. I channeled Chaka's version real well. You'll agree once you see it. It's my highest/ most watched video on youtube.
Phyllis, I stand here a young man merely 27 years of age, but your music has touched me throughout my entire life. I can truly say that as an artist I love you and I can honestly relate to you. So I hope you can hear my words in heaven because it's been many a day you have pulled me through a situation I couldn't have done on my own. Just the fact your presence is no longer here with us brings tears to my eyes at this moment, but I will wipe them away and hold my head up high for you!
she was ver y tall ,.lovely, a lady i saw her once at jazz alley in seattle washigton somyears back ,and i guess besides a young aretha she was the best,i think ive benn in love with her since
THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS. I used to have a copy of her singing this at The Blue Note in New York. It's one of the few arrangements of this overdone song that I can stand to hear.
I thought that Chaka's version was my favorite...I just changed my mind...this is so beautiful. I cry for her. It's so sad that she was losst to a soul sickness.
This only shows how timeless her music was, she was able to switch from classic to day flawlessly. They could never pigeon hole because the diva could do what others could not do. She probably could have broken into country music and still rocked it with that Phyllis flare.
The documentary on her really touched me! I had read up on her prior to "Unsung" and realized she was astronomically talented! The rich lows, highs, and even being able to whistle a line makes you wanna Slap her! Just by looking at the clips of interviews and behind the stage, she seemed like a joy to be around. I wish to God I could have met her!! It's talent like hers that goes unappreciated today and it's a shame! Rest in peace Phyllis and may God have mercy on your weary soul!
Saw Ms. Hyman last night on tvone Unsung and I found myself crying again. Too see her in pain and noone was able to interject and give her strenght and direction who she trusted enought to stay on the right path. Mental illness has robbed us of so mant talents, she was just to me the greatest loss, not saying others weren't as important, they all were. But Phyllis tragic life hit home for me,as if I'd lost a sister.Keeping her memory alive!!!
That she was. I'm hoping that after the special "Unsung" runs next month that we will see more forgotten uploads from others. That would really be great.

I love her singing this song, she's GREAT! However, I hate that disco influenced arrangement. She's so good and it's so bad.

I, like Philly, turned this jazz melody into a slight disco banga..her vocals are truly versatile.
