Awesome videos! I've subbed! You should do a tutorial on blending 3d objects with the ground with environmental reflections etc....Just a suggestion. Keep up the good work!
Really great stuff. I like the pace. It's not too fast but its not so slow that it would put off people used to the software. I just started playing with blender as a movie editor today and while I can see it taking a bit of time to get used to it I've liked what I've seen so far.
I don't suppose you could let me know what export settings you recommend for rendering out footage?
I rarely comment vids, but I'd like to thank you for those amazing tutorials you made! I've expected that for years, Film editing and VFX with a free software?! Dude, you might not have that much views, but what you are doing is NEEDED! I can't thank you enough!!
Another great video ... and delivered with much more confidence this time! I have this idea to make a quick video shoot-out with my wife and six-year-old using this technique over fingers-pointed-like-guns. A nice, pleasant nuclear family goes postal over household chores or something!
I really like that you show an easy and effective way to do things. Sure there are many other videos about muzzle flares, but are mostly way to long and too deep into the topic for beginners. Thanks for this tutorial, hope to see some other stuff soon.

@rorkimaru For Youtube I render to H264 and set the Bitrate to 8500, well that's what I used for Episode 2 and will from now on.

Great work again, very professional and a very common and useful subject to cover. I'm sure it can be used for a range of other effects too.

@BlendThatFilm A good place to upload files to for good distribution is Blendswap! It's already known to the blender community and easy to use.

@flokkievids
Quick tip:
Select an object (e.g. the default cube) in 3D-view and search (spacebar) for "quick smoke".
Change the smoke type to "puff". Also check the setting "dissolve" in the smoke-domain's physics-settings.
Hope that helped a bit :-)

Quick Question.
can you use a mix node instead of a alpha over node?
HFdemofilms 4 months ago
@HFdemofilms yeah you can if you want but it's rendered with an alpha channel so there's no need.

It would be good to have a tutorial about green screen, or any chroma key... I haven't seen any good node set up for that yet...
