Sylvester played the COPA in Ft Lauderdale (DJs Bill Kelly & Richard McVay) on a regular basis - and he opened our record store, located at the front of the club "Out of the Closet Records & Tapes' (signing autographs after his show).
"Over & Over captured the essence of Sylvester's Gospel/R&B roots.
His single ballad "Here Is My Love' showcased his versatility as an artist - and remains an undeiscovered treasure by most of his fans.
I had this on vinyl way way back. Sylvester and Martha Walsh great vocals and the keyboard - was that Sylvester? There is a guy on American Idol this season who kind of reminds me of him. How I wish he was still with us. Gone to soon!
@Aneba76 I THOUGHT THE SAME THING HE RMINDS ME OF HIM TO I WOULD LOVE TO HERE HE DO A SYLVESTER SONG!!!! I CANT REMBR HIS NAME BUT HE FROM AMERICAN IDOL AND REMINDS ME OF HIM
this wa sone of the best lp's that no even heard .I herd it on the radio 4 in the morning. could not believe it was Syl. he was sooo much more than a disco star
Love this song! Sylvester was before my time (i'm 24), but I love his music. THe hi-NRG tracks are classic, but so is this one. Great gem with Sylvester singing in his lower range. Such a lush voice and track. love it! Real music!
Thank you for the post. I've always loved Sylvester and wasn't aware of this.
The track Mutual Attraction was also a great track. In 2008, a wonderful dance remix was released. It is the Varano Magneti-K Mix. The DJ made wonderful use of his voice. I like to think that if he were still around that he would love it.
Totally first class. I am well over 30 and for whatever reason never heard this before this year. I grew up in the South in a town with only one soul station that played the same tired nine or ten songs all day. Thank you for sharing.
Yes. I'm glad I got to witness this beautiful soul and his music. he brought church to the club. no dance artist today can touch him and his live performance was phenomenal. you had to be there..amazing. RIP Sylvester
WOW! Thanks fr the bio. Give fans of his music a little more to know to about Sylvester. Seriously if I didn't know this was Sylvester I would have thought it was Peabo.
Oh my, I haven't heard this in a million years. Reminds me of the Quiet Storm that went off the air in the 90s. I didn't know this was Sylvester after all this time. Thanks for the memories.
I do remember the quiet storm, I grew up in L.A. & moved to Sacramento. I didn't know it was Sylvester either until I caught your post & replayed it . Thanks. He was one of a kind I will always miss.
Growing up in San Francisco I would see Sylvester , Martha Wash & Izora Roads around town all the time . Man that was a really fun time in my life . I'll never for get seeing Martha & Izora on roller skates in Golden Gate Park one Sunday afternoon .lol .
As for Sylvester I'd see him at the clubs and will never forget him holding my hand as he sang live at the I-Beam in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury ...Sure miss the good ol days
A great ballad. It should've gotten more airplay. The chief rocker Frankie Crocker use to play this a lot early Sunday morning when you are coming home from partying.
has anyone seen unsung tuesday night the profile was on Sylvester it was great it's a shame the world was robbed of such a talent God Bless you and RIP Sylvester
@BIGBOOTY7774; yes I love unsung and was glad I programmed my dvr to record the series because I would have missed Sylvester. He was very special and talented. I was moved at the end when he finally found a church home and made it back to his roots. fabulous
Sylvester's performances were breathtaking. He was a trailblazer on so many levels. I would love to see footage posted to his memory!!! He paved the path for so many that came after him!!!
Love the jazzy sound; as a matter of fact I like the song better without the lyrics. The photos are very beautiful! Great job! Not too familar with S and didn't really know the history behind him/her. I also take it that he/she is no longer with us???Thanks for sharing and keep posting em!
