Well, it's not right to say that Tim Burton didn't have anything to do with Coraline. You could see some parts of the movie that was influenced by him. And in that way he helped to make this movie.

Nope. Sorry. If you listen to the commentary or watch the extras Selick says that the backgrounds, design of the characters, etc. were all inspired by the Japanese illustrator, Tadahiro Uesugi. Burton had nothing to do with this movie.

Wow, Just looking at the finished product- such realistic movement! I guess the mechanics underneath would help- just look at the old kind of claymation (Like rudolph the red nosed reindeer, for instance)! They only had wires to go underneath the characters, and here they have joints and all sorts of things!
