The monk parakeet is one of the most adorable birds. I guess time will tell if they cause a negative effect. Here in Argentina they are considered a plague (they are not in danger of extinction anytime soon) They are voracious eaters and destroy crops. But it is hard to be mad at them if you are not a farmer. They are TOO comical,friendly and adorable.

The community in Brooklyn appears to love them now - a local school even has parakeets included in an iron fence along the sidewalk. It seems New Yorkers enjoy these cheeky, scrappy, and enthusiastic newcomers.
