I must say that a lot of foreigners don't really get the difference between a spectator and a fan/fanatic . Even though we aren't the loudest ones hockey for us is like football for England , we aren't the best at it,but please,for a country the size of ours it's more than enough. Not just cheering, here in Riga fans have a tradition of "congratulating" opponents team homeland's embassy. Like when Latvia won a game with Russia in St Petersburg, embassy's stuff was like "WTF?! What's are they up to?!" when several thousand fans surrounded it, they just left flowers (and funeral wreaths... to show some compassion), sang few songs and left peacefully. 8D
