I think that you miss the point of brain compression "algorythm". Our brain doesen't retain information as it. The human brain makes some kind of collage: If you work on 3d, you know that you don't need the whole model geometry to visualise it, like symmetrical geometry. Those collage can produce large amount of data, recycling the data we already know. Using patterns, or assign a character or property to the information we want to memorize, is the "compressing" algorythm that human brain uses.
There is a problem with the compression in this video. HOwever with your eye, its more to do with your retina becoming desensitized to light. If you've ever looked at a white dot on black background, then looked at a white sheet of paper, you'll see a dot.
