Push to Talk with Ventrilo

When I push my key to talk, nothing happens. But my mic works when I go to setup and 'test'.

yea it works for me but it only works when i have clicked on the ventrilo window, if i have any other windows like WoW clicked on it doesn't work at all so.. what's wrong?! :O

when i push my hot key, my sound thing turns from red to green and it displays -XMIT- ... i tried to talk and there's no sound of my voice comes out and im using a microphone for my big normal PC, can yer help me out with it please?

okay so when i press my PTT key (left control) nothing happens i currently dont have any sound drivers installed on my computer and i think this migth be it, but i am using a headset and can hear through that, when i use the test i can hear myself, just cant get PTT to work for me, or non ptt lol help would be appreciated :)

ventrilo starts as non-PTT. In the same section as the PTT check box, if you see the thing that became grayed out, go to it.

you adjust how easily it can pick up noise in the room with that set of boxes. in the same section you can also set it up so vent will only accept a noise / voice every 3 or even 10 seconds apart. (which i find odd as something it can do)

I had this issue originally as well, this means that your microphone settings may not be correct.

Generally, for laptop and other hardware intigrated microphones, you need to do the following: Go to *Setup* Now, look on the right side of the page for INPUT DEVICE.

Click the drop down box and select a "Line In", or possibly an "Array" microphone type.

(Sometimes you must check the boxes also to use 'direct sound')

hmm i really am not sure how to help you out at this time D3, i am sure its an option issue somewhere in your first tab, the same tab as PTT. However i dont know where to start aside from what i have replied to basteal with... I'll try to take a look into it, reply if you solve the issue!

Anyone know how to talk in vent without a damn hotkey? My hands are busy.. but no matter what options I uncheck it dosen't seem to just open my mic when I talk. PTT Key works fine, but again, pressing it detracts from what I'm doing, especially when I need to call out game events constantly.

the only option you have there is to turn up your sensitivity. go into ventrilo Setup (options menu) and follow these steps:

De-check PTT (Push To Talk) by clicking the checked box. Next Look below it for a set of boxes that just became un-grayed out.

One Box is called: Silence Time

Another is: Sensitivity

Silence Time is how long you have to wait to talk, after someone else has spoken. (push to talk doesnt have this)

Sensitivity turn down if your not being heard.

As you talk into your mic, you must go over a certain 'loudness' to be picked up by vent. The threshold is the sensitivity, you pass the threshold and your heard.

So if your a quiet person, this is hard to use, but you can turn sensitivity down to say 5, or even lower (lowest of 0)

Just remember if you do this, it will have you interupting others likely more often, or hear you causing static on vent or just eating chips etc. (Mute vent if you need to before eating!!!)

OMFG IT WONT WORK i press it and it makes this ding sound and when i hold it down it goes DI-DI-DU-DIN-DIN-DING-DING

that ding sound could be your key causing a small error as windows tries to 'select' a name in vent with it. If i hit "G" the hotkey i use when the vent window is open, it makes this noise and also moves me to a player with'G' starting their name.

-other thoughts-

You will not beable to talk in ventrilo if the options menu is still up. Accept the changes by hitting ok and click out of the vent window (either go to desktop or to your game) and that should stop the Dings.
