Your THEORY is proven wrong 100 out of 100 times. The occasional liar and pretender (like that Sy Rodgers, the 150% flaming gay "convert" who is now a loving husband to a pretend wife? Or that Cohen guy? are they REAL straights now?).
For a gay person to "live" a heterosexual life ALWAYS causes pain and suffering. In this day and age that is unnecessary and therefore CRUEL.
Why can't you let gays be happy, why make them suffer? God MAKES you be mean and unkind? Shame on you!
..this guy is one of the realest preachers around. Maybe thats because he has been to perhaps mans last taboo (homosexuality) made it back to the Lord..Amazing
God can only be found first off when you see your need, and then seek Him...spirituality is not to be confused with your IQ...as some here seem to think
What if you empty yourself ...get quiet and still...lay down your arguements...and ask ...in that place where only you can go...and say show me..teach me...I wonder then what you may learn ...praying His plan and purpose be fufilled in you...and that doesn't have as much to do with you as you think.
The Bible is the word of God but can't not be interpreted without the Holy Spirit...all the mental babble is just man at his...well I would like to say finest but apart from an intimate relationship with God is really unattainable...and I know that those who work so hard at gaining "knowledge' are the ones that have the hardest time with surrender...it's really difficult to give up your right to be right.
Well, Sy Rogers was not actually a homosexual. He was a heterosexual who, by his own testimony, was molested, and deprived of gender edification, causing him to seek male effection and even go so far as to seek a sex change to feel adequate. He is not "ex-gay". He was never gay. He was a deeply emotionally and sexually wounded heterosexual whom the Lord has healed and restored to HIS natural heterosexual identity. That is VERY different from homosexual identity.
You all might want to view an excellent video on You Tube. Go to You Tiube and type in the search box: Robert Beckford. I should bring up his video documentary entitled, "Who Wrote The Bible". Beckford is an academic theologian who poses some very important questions for those who believe the Bible is the literal word of God and an accurate historical record. It was shown on BBC in the UK and one of the best I've seen on this subject.
This video completely confirms my belief that the Bible is a book written by men and subject to their cultural prejudices and limited scientific understanding of the day. It deals with archeological innacurracies of the Old Testament as well as how the canon of the Bible actually came to be, which had very political purposes. It also addresses the writers of the New Testament, who actually NEVER even knew Jesus personally and were written 70-80 years after His death.
The ultimate point is that the Bible relates to us stories of how God has interacted with manking throughout history. It contains different schools of thought and is a compilation of many and varied experiences that do not always corroborate the other writers. What is crystal clear is that the Bible is not "the word of God" and can not be interpreted literally. It is meant to be a guide to be used in conjunction with common sense, reason, scientific and knowledge available today.
Complex issues such as Gender Variance and Homosexuality can not be condemned by taking a single verse out of context and saying that this is God's word and therefore it is final. Church history has been influenced by Hebrew Law and Patriarchy that has affected Biblical translations and whether certain books made it into the current text that we call the Bible. We must use the compassion that Jesus exhibited to make moral decisions that are appropriate for a world 2,000 years after Jesus
This site will not let me attach links to articles but you maty be able to Google this interview with gay Episcopal Bishop, Gene Robinson. He articulates my views completely.

What Are Religious Texts Really Saying About Gay and Transgender Rights?
An Interview with Bishop Gene Robinson
By Jeff Krehely, Sally Steenland | December 8, 2010
@namasteywhat Well, Jesus never speaks of the issue at all. The Bible doesn't discuss the Theory of Relativity either but that doesn't mean Jesus condemns it. Homosexuality was certainly condemned by Jewish law and death was the punishment.
It also believed in stoning a disobedient child, killing someone who worked on the Sabbath, ate shellfish or wore clothes of mixed fabric. Do you think those laws are still relevant?
@namasteywhat The word homosexuality was coined by Freud in the 1800's. Not sure when bisexuality was defined but ceretainly there were Transsexuals in public in the 1900's most famous was Christine Jorgensen in the 1950's. Gender Queer is a relative recent phenomenon by people wishing to challenge male/ female cultural stereotypes and probably a result of the emergence of the Feminist Movement.
@namasteywhat I'm not exactly sure what the Greek word is that "homosexual" was translated from but I do not believe that statement. Sorry, I don't accept a literal interpretation of the Bible without understanding the context that the scripture emanates from. We've already gone through that. I think that vese is a complete contradiction to the message of Jesus. I also do not believe the lovong Father God that Jesus taught of would create people GLBTI and then condemn them to Hell. Sorry.
@namasteywhat Well your argument comparing gay people to people with a physical or mental disability is insulting to say the least. They may need to be "fixed" but not because they are gay.
@namasteywhat Jesus never asks us to die to our "identity". He requires us to follow Him and to love God and others as he loved them but NEVER does He require someone to change their identity.
@namasteywhat I'm sorry but as far as Sy Rogers goes, I'm not buying that he is "cured". All of his body language and speech patterns and pitch scream female. You can believe whatever you want. You can hypnotize someone to believe they are a duck, but that doesn't make it so. Anyway, whatever he is I hope he finds peace in his life. I just find it cruel to give false hope to people who are desperate to "fit in" and avoid going to the Hell that Christians tell them they are destined for.
@namasteywhat I certainly do not believe in the same Jesus or God that you do. Jesus NEVER put any conditions on His salvation. I also can not respect or worship a God that creates people gay. lesbian, or Trans and then condemns them to Hell. It's a complete contradiction to the actions of Jesus. Of course, that's why you have such an interest in believing that sexual orientation and gender identity is a product of environment because you can't believe in such a hateful God either.
Thankyou sister or brother and Ill mention that book to him...While our Fathers Word spoken through the prophets is the same back in Biblical times as it is today in the 21st Century. Believers have a way harder time walking the Christian path than those 2000yrs ago. Im sure our God understands this.
and he becomes a woman...I have to say that he's loved and the God loves him. Whatever is going on his life and his personal relationship he has with the Father. Is between him and the LORD. Its not my calling to condemn him but to show the love of Christ has for him through me. Its a difficult case for all involved in our Fellowship & being honest he is not going to attend Fellowship as a woman & for that I am glad. I know him as a man not a woman & I think it odd to see him/her there.
It sounds great but the in reality we live in a fallen world of sickness and sexual immorality and we have to as humans beings fight these. Soemtimes we have the love of the Father but we are left to live with it the best way we can with Jesus as our Lord. That man I spoke 22yr loves Jesus with all his heart, has been in & out of Mental wards battling his demons. He has continually asked for prayer. I have to show him the love of Christ in me when he accepts that he is not normal
@ImagesByDavid Well, this is EXACTLY why I do not support "conversion therapy" or Christian counselling that tries to change Gay and Transgender people. Your friend is a classic example of the conflict people face trying to reconcile their faith with the reality of who they are. I hope your friend will find a professional gender therapist who is not trying to "convert" him and help him to learn to accept who he is and to find happiness. God's love is not conditional on us changing who we are.
You should accept that they are people who are gay who really dont want to be. They would see being gay as having cancer. They didnt have choose to have cancer but they got it. Just cause their bodies might urge for the same sex doesnt mean their mind wants to engage in such activities. So conversation therapy would be acceptable to those people who dont want to be gay. Its their choice and we should accept it I guess.
@ImagesByDavid I encourage people to do whatever they feel they need to do to find peace. If that is Conversion Therapy, then go for it. Personally, I don't think it works and may do more harm than good. Our society is not very kind to people who are different. I would much rather see a person seek therapy to help him/her accept their difference and learn to love themselves. So much of self hatred comes from the negative social messages GLBT get on a regular basis.
Ok if you dont believe the majority are born with homosexuality youre saying that there is a percentage who are born with it. So what do you tell them as a Christian?
Deny what they were born with?
To suppress themselves and in turn live a life of shame and turmoil.
Is that the advice you would give as someone who has received the Jesus into their life?
@namasteywhat You might try googling Dr. Dick Swaab, a retired Dutch neurobiologist who studied brains of cadavers and documents differences in the Hypothalamus of gay vs. heterosexual brains.
More information: Male-like sexual behavior of female mouse lacking
fucose mutarotase, Dongkyu Park, Dongwook Choi, Junghoon Lee, Dae-sik
Lim and Chankyu Park. This study done by Korean researchers shows how female sexual behavior is altered by mutations in a specific enzyme, Fructose mutarotase.
@namasteywhat I certainly believe that sexual trauma can influence a person's sexuality. That does not explain children who identify as Transgender at age 3 or 4. Sexuality doesn't really start to emerge until adolescence so the onset of sexual orientation occurs later but I remember having crushes on boys in my class as early as pre-school. Sexual fantasies did not occur until age 13 or so. I had no sexual trauma. I came from a typical family and all my siblings are straight.
@nikkidane Oh good Lord! The thing that you do not understand is that
I am very happy with who I am. I have no desire to change anything except to be 30 years younger...lol. Also, if your religion requires people to receive extensive psychotherapy to be a follower, then it is hogwash. Rather than redemptive liberating salvation, it sounds like all you are offering a prison sentence. Good luck with that message.
@namasteywhat You are absolutely delusional and arrogant. You have the audacity to speak for GLBT people as though you know what is in our brain. You don't. I assume you are a heterosexual cis-gender man. You have no idea of what it means to be gay or trans. Let's just put it like this:Can you change your heterosexual nature?
You really need to read some research that is not NARTH propaganda.
BTW, I have my doctorate which I received in 1983. I laugh at your arrogant and insulting remarks.
@namasteywhat Ohhhhh, you really put me in my place. NOT. I was a Biology major not a philosophy major so why should I be familiar with a French philosopher. Is this more propaganda from NARTH?
@namasteywhat I just read Dr. Robert Spitzer's interview and I completely agree with what he had to say. I'm not sure what he says that you think I do not agree with.
Secondly, where in the Bible does Jesus condemn homosexuality or Transsexuality? What chapter and verse? It's not there and if it was such a huge issue I think He would have had something to say about it.
@namasteywhat 50-66%...lol. Who are you kidding? Your hero Dr. Robert
Spitzer even states that conversion is EXTREMELY rare.
You speak as if you ARE God and your arrogance is getting very old.. I've already explained my point of view which you obviously did not hear. Anatomy allows for procreation. Emotions allow for love. There are many Christian theologians and a few denominations that agree with me. I guess they are all deceived too since they do not agree with your interpretation.
@namasteywhat Well, I thought you denied saying that homosexuality is a social construct. I lived through the 90's and sexualities were categorized long before that. BTW, I just read Dr. Spitzer's interview with Dr. Throckmorton and I have no argument with him. I don't see anything that he states that contradicts what I believe. Yes, there may a very few people who'se sexuality is fluid enough to change. A Dr. Spitzer says, these cases areextremely rare.
@namasteywhat I'm not saying that psycho-social development can not be a factor but I think most credible research lends one to believe it to be biologically based. Honestly, I doubt you have seen ALL the research...lol. I'm sure you've read what NARTH presents but I would not say that is unbiased.
@namasteywhat Sorry but I don't buy it. God does create people who happen to be gay, lesbian, transgender and intersex. Your bias that this is sin and dysfunctional is just that....bias. Sin involves choice. The only choice someone homosexual or transgender or Intersex has is to either live honestly or to pretend to be something they are not and never will be. This is why the success rate of conversion therapy is only around 4% and even that is debatable.
@namasteywhat Well, I pretty much think the same about you. I don't know what sort of accredited university you went to that teaches being gay is a social construct. Much of your comments sound like you are echoing talking points from NARTH rather than actual thinking.
@namasteywhat As far as sex being monogamous, we can at least agree that sex should be within a committed relationship if possible. People in Biblical days married when they were in their teens. Now days, people often marry when they are in their late 20's.30's, or 40's. People choose to live together before marriage or are sexually active before marriage due to this age lag. It's a fact of modern life and I gaurantee that most Christian men and women are not celibate before marriage.
@namasteywhat If God created gay people and you offer no "cure" , then I think your point that sex should be between opposite genders is unbelievably cruel to gays and lesbians. You deny them the expression of their very nature, their unique humanity. I just do not believe homosexuality as a psychosexual orientation is even addressed in the Bible.
@namasteywhat Gay twins who were separated at birth does lend to the view that it is genetics that's involved in sexual orientation. Fetal brain insensitivity or hypersensitivity shows the most promise in explaining gender identity variance. Intersex condition is probably explained by chromosomal abberations. Time will tell but I feel reasonably sure that it is biological and not choice and not mutable.
@namasteywhat GLBTI is NOT social construct. It may be a combination of nature vs. nurture but clearly nature is the predominant factor in most cases. Sexuality is a very complicated issue. As of yet, science can only theorize what is the etiology of a person's sexual feelings.or gender identity. Just because we still don't definitively understand the cause, most credible scientist believe biology is the predominant factor and that is NOT social construct or choice..
@namasteywhat No but what it does show that homosexuality is a normal variant existing in nature, not a choice. Killing their offspring or mate is not an accurate analogy.
@namasteywhat Jesus never addressed the issue of homosexuality or Gender Variance so your comment is irrelevant. Frankly, I'm tired of debating you because you have no listened to anything I have said. You only continue to push your conservative Biblical view of sexuality. I'm not familiar with Dr. Robert Spitzer but if he believes homosexuality or Gender Identity can be changed, he is clearly not mainstream in his thinking. Conversion Therapy has been discredited by all credible medical profes
Well I spent a couple of hours with a Christian man who cant fight his transgender anymore. God can click His Fingers and send this earth 700 trillions of light years away in a second. Its said that God will not give you more than you can handle. Well this man prayed for years for healing. He cant fight it no more so I like to think my God who created the Heavens &, the Earth. Is bigger than what you think God is in this situation. People are born disabled & people are born gay.
@namasteywhat Thanks again for your biased and unscientific opinion that being GLBT and Intersex is a social construct. By the way, you are contradicting most credible scientific studies that suggest that gender identity/ sexual orientation is developed in utero and most likely genetic and/or hormonal influences on the fet1al brain . Certainly, environment is a factor but not primary in most cases. There are chromosomal abnormalities that explain medical syndromes such as Kleinfelter's.
@namasteywhat Well, God created male and female anatomy to provide for procreation. He gave us a brain and emotions that allow us to fall in love. Procreation does not equal love. God created us as social beings who flourish with the love of family and a partner. Companonship and intimacy can be an end in itself for a relationship without requiring procreation. By the way, homosexuality exists throughout the Vertebrate Kingdom. It appears to be a normal variance in nature.
There are chromosomal abnormalities that explain syndromes such as Kleinfelter's.
I actually spent the last two hours with a young man who has come out openly as transgender. Funny this is the first topic I see being discussed since I logged in. This man is a Christian man & he is all out transgender. God loves Him & I have shown my love & compassion to him too as a friend & as a believer in Jesus Christ who commands me to love. Faith is not defined by loving your family or friends but those in society who are considered outcasts. The greatest commandment is love
@ImagesByDavid Bravo David. You sound like a true Christian to me. Your friend is lucky to have you around and it sounds like you understand the heart of Jesus.
If I am to believe that a supernatural being is responsible for the world I live in then a talking snake sounds somewhat tame. Though the snake could be a metaphor for the voice of Satan in Adam's concious mind.
@namasteywhat Being gay, lesbian, or transgender is your entire identity. It is not just weho you are attracted to. In fact, with trans folks it has nothing to do with who you are attracted to. It is how you relate to the world, what career you choose, what friends you choose, what movies you like, if you like art or sports, etc. Get my point? It is impossible to erase your personaity/ identity no matter how hard you might try and God never requires anyone to erase who they are.
@namasteywhat I do not have a problem with men but I do have a problem with "people" who try and tell me that I am an abomination and unworthy of God's love because I am living as the person He created me to be.
@namasteywhat We have very different beliefs on the inerrancy of the Bible. The cannon of the Bible was actually selected by a group of Catholic Bishops at the Council of Nicea in the Middle Ages and probably for very political reasons. In other words, MEN selected the text of the Bible. I believe that the writers of the Bible infuse their own personality, scientific knowledge, cultural views and prejudices in their writings. I know you believe the Bible is the literal "Word of God". I don't.
@namasteywhat I quit the Catholic Church 40 years ago after 12 years of Catholic indoctrination in parochial school.
Paul states that women should not speak in the Church and if they had an issue to discuss that they should bring that to their husband.. That is pretty clear to me. That verse has been used by many denominations to limit the role of women in the Church. I would be interested in reading "Finally Feminist". I find it curious that it is written by a man...lol.
@namasteywhat Frankly, I don't give a rat's behind what you think of my feminist perspective of the Bible. Women were not even allowed to speak in Church in Biblical days. We still have remnants of the disenfranchisement of women exemplified in the Catholic Church, which still refuses to ordain women. I suggest you take a course in Womens' Studies to understand just how women have been treated as inferior to men through history. The Bible certainly is influenced by this cultural prejudice.
@namasteywhat Of course condemnation of lesbianism fits into a patriarchal social model. Women are created for men's pleasure according to the patriarchal ideal. For a woman to chose to love another woman in place of a man is an insult to men and would be condemned. Even to this day, the practice of female circumcision is practiced in some cultures to deny women of any sexual pleasure. It reinforces the idea that women are only for the purpose of fulfilling the needs of men.
Dr. Gagnon is obviously a very intelligent man. I just do not agree with his belief that the Bible is the innerrant word of God. It was written by humans with all their fallible characteristics. Yes, it is a record of God's history with mankind but it is NOT a historical or scientific document.
@namasteywhat Well, I believe the current translations of the Bible in Levitcus call homosexuality as well as things like eating shellfish, planting different crops in the same field, wearing fabrics of two kinds of material all abominations to God.
@namasteywhat It also explains the historical attitude of women as unequal to men. The bigotry against GLBT people and women come from the same patriarchal cultural roots. I have lived in the Middle East and see how women are treated as the property of men. You begin to understand why such attitudes develop that threaten the superiority of men in society.
Well, I appreciate your citicism of my logic. I read Dr. Gagnon's article. He is obviously a very intelligent man; however, I do not agree with his basic supposition that the Bible is "the Word of God". It is written by men and subject to their own knowledge of the world and cultural prejudices.
Yes, the Bible clearly condemns some same sex acts and men beinbg effemiate but if you view those views in the patriarchal culture from which those attitudes emmanate from, it gives you another view
Another question....If all effeminate men are going to Hell, just how macho do you have to be to get into Heaven and who is going to make that determination on machoness? Is someone going to hell for being sensitive or liking art and music instead of football? Or do you have to be a full out drag queen to get the boot?
After watching the video of Sy Rogers, I have a question. He is OBVIOUSLY very effeminate for a man. Actually, he has a woman's voice. Since Paul in the NT says that being effeminate will keep you out of heaven, it looks like Mr/Ms Rogers is going to Hell regardless of what he/she believes.
Well, Dr Robeert Gagnon makes some compelling arguments to make his case. I would be interested in hearing him debate some theologians who have the opposite perspective.
In the end, I guess you have to ask yourself: " Would a loving God create people who are an abomination?". Being Gay. Lesbian, or Transgender is an innate identity as much as it is a behavior and is certainly not a choice. The only choice is to live honestly and authentically or to try to be someone that others want you to be.
@nikkidane Dr. Gagnon is obviously a very intelligent man. I just do not agree with his belief that the Bible is the innerrant word of God. It was written by humans with all their fallible characteristics. Yes, it is a record of God's history with mankind but it is NOT a historical or scientific document.
@ratfac I suggest that yo read the book by Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong called "Rescuing the Bible From Fundamentalis". He does a great job of detailing exactly why I made that statement.
I'm not interested in debating theology with evangelical christians because it's a huge waste of time. I've tried many times in the past and it's like talking to a cement block. They are basically brainwashed and totally close minded.
There is no such thing as ex-homosexual. Gender is not binary, therefore sexuality is fluid. Time to take your blinkers off. I've heard Sy in person. I've gone through ex-gay treatment for years. All it does is harm. Don't waist your life with it. Just be true to who you are. God loves you like you are, God made you perfect, perfectly gay, perfectly unique, perfectly you. Gay, straight, bi, male, female or other. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
@fightorflight2 God does accept you, but He most definitely doesn't want you to be gay. I have issues to, I'm not gay but I have my own sexual struggles as a straight guy. Don't give in. Don't accept it. Don't hate yourself, but keep praying and overcome it. You can change, even if you have given up right now. I was trapped in a sin and it took many years for me to be set free and I still have to flee from it at times when the thoughts come about, but I didn't give up, and now the desire is weak
@rokwing Sweetie, you are just repressing your true feelings. There is no changing your sexual orientation or gender identity. It is not a choice but how you are hardwired. If you choose to deny who you are in order to make others happy, then you have literally put yourself in a trap/ closet. YTou are anything but "set free".
@rokwing Does God hate you because you are heterosexual? Of course not. Neither does He hate gay or trans people. He may hate some of their actions if they are not Christ-like but certainly not because of who you are.
@nikkidane I don't know why it ent my re[ply here because I do not agree with rokwing. I agree with fightorflight that you can not change your sexual orientation or gender identity and that God accepts you as you are.
Sy is amazing, i think you guys should really go listen to him speak in person. I can't believe anyone could argue with this man. You know you are hearing the truth when you listen to him.
Nikkidane the bible clearly talks about homosexuality not being natural countless times. But regardless are evangelical christians narrowminded? I would say yes but the bible clearly states that the way to heaven is a narrow one. The truth is clear.
Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Matthew 7: 13-14)
@christianchefmatt@christianchefmatt@christianchefmatt Frankly, since homosexuality as a term and understood as a psychosexual orientation most likely born with, I question whether or not the Bible even addresses the issue any more than it addresses automobiles or spaceships.
Certainly, same sex acts are prohibitted but I believe vwe must understand the context. Sodom and Gomorrah is about rape. Paul talks about same sex acts in terms of promiscuity.
When you consider the patriarchal culture that the writers of the Bible wre influenced by, their condemnation of homosexuality makes perfect sense. A man taking on a passive/ feminine role would be considered degrading in that culture. A woman having sex with another woman makes the man unimportant. The fact that homosexuality is present in lesser vertebrate species shows it as a normal variant. of biology.
@christianchefmatt I believe much of the bias against same sex acts results from a culture of patriarchy where women are considered less than men. For a man to be feminine is considered degrading in that light. Also, it was quite common for anal sex to be a form of degradation, humiliation, and power over their captives.
As a Transsexual and progressive Christian myself I can appreciate Sy's efforts . His body language and spirit exudes a woman. I think he's making a mistake trying to live as a man regardless of what the Evangelical Christians tell him. I believe he has truly given up living honestly in order to gain approval from Evangelicals who have a very narrow interpretation of Scripture. Very sad that he feels he needs to be something other than who God obviously created him to be..
Well, you are comparing apples to oranges. The Bible clearly states that promiscuity is wrong but it actually never addresses same sex LOVE or Gender Identity Disorder. The Bible discusses same sex acts in reference to behavior connected with idol worship of neighboring religions such as the fertility cults. The story of Jonathan and David probably is the only example of same sex love (although we do not know whether it was sexual, their relationship was certainly more than platonic) .
@yummsqi I'm not sure I understand where you are coming from. What does going to a massage parlor or hiring a prostitute have to do with being born Transgender? That would more accurately apply to heterosexual men. I think your comment reflects your cultural bias that stereotypes all Trans people as sexual perverts. In reality, gender expression has very little to do with sexuality. If you took the time to educate yourself on the subject you would know that.
@yummsqi I have read Romans 1: 25-27, 32. I also realize that the word for homosexuality did not even exist until the time of Sigmund Freud in the 1800's and that Paul was a victim of the lack of scientific knowledge in his day as well as the cultural prejudices of his time.
So his ways are efeminate. As an repentant ex-homosexual be assured his sins are forgiven him whereas you my friend, dont even receive the God's verdict = GUILTY - you can call yourself a progressive "christian" all you want - the scriptures testify you and the axe lies at the root of the tree - take Sy's advice and repent and recive the forgiveness of sins in the name of Jesus Christ...
@lahridon2000 -Don't give up I know addictions are hard especially when we try to do it ourselves, but trust God He want us to be free more than we want to be free. Jesus came to set the captives free......
@lahridon2000 I do not believe there's such a thing as an "ex-homosexual" and neither do any credible medical specialists or psychologists. I believe a few people are sexually fluid enough to repress their homosexual side; but that does not mean they were "cured". It only means they have chosen to repress part of their true identity.

What Are Religious Texts Really Saying About Gay and Transgender Rights?
An Interview with Bishop Gene Robinson

@namasteywhat Well, Jesus never speaks of the issue at all. The Bible doesn't discuss the Theory of Relativity either but that doesn't mean Jesus condemns it. Homosexuality was certainly condemned by Jewish law and death was the punishment.
It also believed in stoning a disobedient child, killing someone who worked on the Sabbath, ate shellfish or wore clothes of mixed fabric. Do you think those laws are still relevant?
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat The word homosexuality was coined by Freud in the 1800's. Not sure when bisexuality was defined but ceretainly there were Transsexuals in public in the 1900's most famous was Christine Jorgensen in the 1950's. Gender Queer is a relative recent phenomenon by people wishing to challenge male/ female cultural stereotypes and probably a result of the emergence of the Feminist Movement.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat I'm not exactly sure what the Greek word is that "homosexual" was translated from but I do not believe that statement. Sorry, I don't accept a literal interpretation of the Bible without understanding the context that the scripture emanates from. We've already gone through that. I think that vese is a complete contradiction to the message of Jesus. I also do not believe the lovong Father God that Jesus taught of would create people GLBTI and then condemn them to Hell. Sorry.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Well your argument comparing gay people to people with a physical or mental disability is insulting to say the least. They may need to be "fixed" but not because they are gay.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@nikkidane
We as a society can be very hard on those who are different alright.
ImagesByDavid 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Jesus never asks us to die to our "identity". He requires us to follow Him and to love God and others as he loved them but NEVER does He require someone to change their identity.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat No. Jesus's salvation does not require becoming someone else.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat I'm sorry but as far as Sy Rogers goes, I'm not buying that he is "cured". All of his body language and speech patterns and pitch scream female. You can believe whatever you want. You can hypnotize someone to believe they are a duck, but that doesn't make it so. Anyway, whatever he is I hope he finds peace in his life. I just find it cruel to give false hope to people who are desperate to "fit in" and avoid going to the Hell that Christians tell them they are destined for.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat I certainly do not believe in the same Jesus or God that you do. Jesus NEVER put any conditions on His salvation. I also can not respect or worship a God that creates people gay. lesbian, or Trans and then condemns them to Hell. It's a complete contradiction to the actions of Jesus. Of course, that's why you have such an interest in believing that sexual orientation and gender identity is a product of environment because you can't believe in such a hateful God either.

and he becomes a woman...I have to say that he's loved and the God loves him.

@namasteywhat

God's love is not conditional on us changing who we are.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@nikkidane
ImagesByDavid 1 year ago

This study done by Korean researchers shows how female sexual behavior is altered by mutations in a specific enzyme, Fructose mutarotase.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat I certainly believe that sexual trauma can influence a person's sexuality. That does not explain children who identify as Transgender at age 3 or 4. Sexuality doesn't really start to emerge until adolescence so the onset of sexual orientation occurs later but I remember having crushes on boys in my class as early as pre-school. Sexual fantasies did not occur until age 13 or so. I had no sexual trauma. I came from a typical family and all my siblings are straight.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@nikkidane Oh good Lord! The thing that you do not understand is that
I am very happy with who I am. I have no desire to change anything except to be 30 years younger...lol. Also, if your religion requires people to receive extensive psychotherapy to be a follower, then it is hogwash. Rather than redemptive liberating salvation, it sounds like all you are offering a prison sentence. Good luck with that message.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat In a very few people, sexual orientation is fluid enough to change. Dr. Spitzer admits that this is extremely rare.
This site will not allow me to post links to research that supports my point of view.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat You are absolutely delusional and arrogant. You have the audacity to speak for GLBT people as though you know what is in our brain. You don't. I assume you are a heterosexual cis-gender man. You have no idea of what it means to be gay or trans. Let's just put it like this:Can you change your heterosexual nature?
You really need to read some research that is not NARTH propaganda.
BTW, I have my doctorate which I received in 1983. I laugh at your arrogant and insulting remarks.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Ohhhhh, you really put me in my place. NOT. I was a Biology major not a philosophy major so why should I be familiar with a French philosopher. Is this more propaganda from NARTH?
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat I just read Dr. Robert Spitzer's interview and I completely agree with what he had to say. I'm not sure what he says that you think I do not agree with.
Secondly, where in the Bible does Jesus condemn homosexuality or Transsexuality? What chapter and verse? It's not there and if it was such a huge issue I think He would have had something to say about it.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat 50-66%...lol. Who are you kidding? Your hero Dr. Robert
Spitzer even states that conversion is EXTREMELY rare.
You speak as if you ARE God and your arrogance is getting very old.. I've already explained my point of view which you obviously did not hear. Anatomy allows for procreation. Emotions allow for love. There are many Christian theologians and a few denominations that agree with me. I guess they are all deceived too since they do not agree with your interpretation.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Well, I thought you denied saying that homosexuality is a social construct. I lived through the 90's and sexualities were categorized long before that. BTW, I just read Dr. Spitzer's interview with Dr. Throckmorton and I have no argument with him. I don't see anything that he states that contradicts what I believe. Yes, there may a very few people who'se sexuality is fluid enough to change. A Dr. Spitzer says, these cases areextremely rare.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat I'm not saying that psycho-social development can not be a factor but I think most credible research lends one to believe it to be biologically based. Honestly, I doubt you have seen ALL the research...lol. I'm sure you've read what NARTH presents but I would not say that is unbiased.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Sorry but I don't buy it. God does create people who happen to be gay, lesbian, transgender and intersex. Your bias that this is sin and dysfunctional is just that....bias. Sin involves choice. The only choice someone homosexual or transgender or Intersex has is to either live honestly or to pretend to be something they are not and never will be. This is why the success rate of conversion therapy is only around 4% and even that is debatable.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Well, I pretty much think the same about you. I don't know what sort of accredited university you went to that teaches being gay is a social construct. Much of your comments sound like you are echoing talking points from NARTH rather than actual thinking.
I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat As far as sex being monogamous, we can at least agree that sex should be within a committed relationship if possible. People in Biblical days married when they were in their teens. Now days, people often marry when they are in their late 20's.30's, or 40's. People choose to live together before marriage or are sexually active before marriage due to this age lag. It's a fact of modern life and I gaurantee that most Christian men and women are not celibate before marriage.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat If God created gay people and you offer no "cure" , then I think your point that sex should be between opposite genders is unbelievably cruel to gays and lesbians. You deny them the expression of their very nature, their unique humanity. I just do not believe homosexuality as a psychosexual orientation is even addressed in the Bible.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Gay twins who were separated at birth does lend to the view that it is genetics that's involved in sexual orientation. Fetal brain insensitivity or hypersensitivity shows the most promise in explaining gender identity variance. Intersex condition is probably explained by chromosomal abberations. Time will tell but I feel reasonably sure that it is biological and not choice and not mutable.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat GLBTI is NOT social construct. It may be a combination of nature vs. nurture but clearly nature is the predominant factor in most cases. Sexuality is a very complicated issue. As of yet, science can only theorize what is the etiology of a person's sexual feelings.or gender identity. Just because we still don't definitively understand the cause, most credible scientist believe biology is the predominant factor and that is NOT social construct or choice..
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat No but what it does show that homosexuality is a normal variant existing in nature, not a choice. Killing their offspring or mate is not an accurate analogy.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Jesus never addressed the issue of homosexuality or Gender Variance so your comment is irrelevant. Frankly, I'm tired of debating you because you have no listened to anything I have said. You only continue to push your conservative Biblical view of sexuality. I'm not familiar with Dr. Robert Spitzer but if he believes homosexuality or Gender Identity can be changed, he is clearly not mainstream in his thinking. Conversion Therapy has been discredited by all credible medical profes

There are chromosomal abnormalities that explain medical syndromes such as Kleinfelter's.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Well, God created male and female anatomy to provide for procreation. He gave us a brain and emotions that allow us to fall in love. Procreation does not equal love. God created us as social beings who flourish with the love of family and a partner. Companonship and intimacy can be an end in itself for a relationship without requiring procreation. By the way, homosexuality exists throughout the Vertebrate Kingdom. It appears to be a normal variance in nature.

nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat We have very different beliefs on the inerrancy of the Bible. The cannon of the Bible was actually selected by a group of Catholic Bishops at the Council of Nicea in the Middle Ages and probably for very political reasons. In other words, MEN selected the text of the Bible. I believe that the writers of the Bible infuse their own personality, scientific knowledge, cultural views and prejudices in their writings. I know you believe the Bible is the literal "Word of God". I don't.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat I quit the Catholic Church 40 years ago after 12 years of Catholic indoctrination in parochial school.
Paul states that women should not speak in the Church and if they had an issue to discuss that they should bring that to their husband.. That is pretty clear to me. That verse has been used by many denominations to limit the role of women in the Church. I would be interested in reading "Finally Feminist". I find it curious that it is written by a man...lol.
nikkidane 1 year ago
BS!
tdk08 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Frankly, I don't give a rat's behind what you think of my feminist perspective of the Bible. Women were not even allowed to speak in Church in Biblical days. We still have remnants of the disenfranchisement of women exemplified in the Catholic Church, which still refuses to ordain women. I suggest you take a course in Womens' Studies to understand just how women have been treated as inferior to men through history. The Bible certainly is influenced by this cultural prejudice.
nikkidane 1 year ago

Yes, it is a record of God's history with mankind but it is NOT a historical or scientific document.
nikkidane 1 year ago

@ImagesByDavid So you believe in a literal Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve being deceived by a talking snake. Come on!
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat Well, I believe the current translations of the Bible in Levitcus call homosexuality as well as things like eating shellfish, planting different crops in the same field, wearing fabrics of two kinds of material all abominations to God.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@namasteywhat It also explains the historical attitude of women as unequal to men. The bigotry against GLBT people and women come from the same patriarchal cultural roots. I have lived in the Middle East and see how women are treated as the property of men. You begin to understand why such attitudes develop that threaten the superiority of men in society.
nikkidane 1 year ago
Well, I appreciate your citicism of my logic. I read Dr. Gagnon's article. He is obviously a very intelligent man; however, I do not agree with his basic supposition that the Bible is "the Word of God". It is written by men and subject to their own knowledge of the world and cultural prejudices.
Yes, the Bible clearly condemns some same sex acts and men beinbg effemiate but if you view those views in the patriarchal culture from which those attitudes emmanate from, it gives you another view
nikkidane 1 year ago
Another question....If all effeminate men are going to Hell, just how macho do you have to be to get into Heaven and who is going to make that determination on machoness? Is someone going to hell for being sensitive or liking art and music instead of football? Or do you have to be a full out drag queen to get the boot?
nikkidane 1 year ago
After watching the video of Sy Rogers, I have a question. He is OBVIOUSLY very effeminate for a man. Actually, he has a woman's voice. Since Paul in the NT says that being effeminate will keep you out of heaven, it looks like Mr/Ms Rogers is going to Hell regardless of what he/she believes.
nikkidane 1 year ago
Well, Dr Robeert Gagnon makes some compelling arguments to make his case. I would be interested in hearing him debate some theologians who have the opposite perspective.
In the end, I guess you have to ask yourself: " Would a loving God create people who are an abomination?". Being Gay. Lesbian, or Transgender is an innate identity as much as it is a behavior and is certainly not a choice. The only choice is to live honestly and authentically or to try to be someone that others want you to be.

(Matthew 7: 13-14)
christianchefmatt 2 years ago 4
@christianchefmatt @christianchefmatt @christianchefmatt Frankly, since homosexuality as a term and understood as a psychosexual orientation most likely born with, I question whether or not the Bible even addresses the issue any more than it addresses automobiles or spaceships.
Certainly, same sex acts are prohibitted but I believe vwe must understand the context. Sodom and Gomorrah is about rape. Paul talks about same sex acts in terms of promiscuity.
nikkidane 1 year ago
When you consider the patriarchal culture that the writers of the Bible wre influenced by, their condemnation of homosexuality makes perfect sense. A man taking on a passive/ feminine role would be considered degrading in that culture. A woman having sex with another woman makes the man unimportant. The fact that homosexuality is present in lesser vertebrate species shows it as a normal variant. of biology.
nikkidane 1 year ago
@christianchefmatt I believe much of the bias against same sex acts results from a culture of patriarchy where women are considered less than men. For a man to be feminine is considered degrading in that light. Also, it was quite common for anal sex to be a form of degradation, humiliation, and power over their captives.
nikkidane 1 year ago

That would more accurately apply to heterosexual men. I think your comment reflects your cultural bias that stereotypes all Trans people as sexual perverts. In reality, gender expression has very little to do with sexuality. If you took the time to educate yourself on the subject you would know that.

I believe a few people are sexually fluid enough to repress their homosexual side; but that does not mean they were "cured". It only means they have chosen to repress part of their true identity.
