Carrie Underwood all the way! I was backstage listening to Kelly warm up before a concert once and she couldn't hit this one particular note and she even screamed "shit! I can't ever hit that note anymore!!" so therefore that means she's starting to lose what she used to have..

Both are good, strong singers. I prefer Kelly's tone, which can turn to raspy at times. Which tone a person likes seems so subjective, though, that it gets a bit ridiculous to try to crown one or the another "best", especially when they can both hit the notes so well. For tone, I like Whitney and Kelly (and Pink who sounds a lot like Kelly) and that's just about it. Then again, I may be a tad wee bit biased. LOL
Kelly Clarkson is positively the best female singer of her generation. Nobody comes close- not Aguilera, not Leona, not Carrie. None of them are as versatile as Clarkson and none of them have the belting range that she has. Only last week she was hitting A5s in concert. Christina Aguilera's head would explode if she attempted such a note. In the My December era Kelly's voice seemed a bit damaged but she is vocally better than she ever was nowadays.

I love both singers, I have been pretty versatile with the music i listen to and these are my favorite idols. To be fair none of these clips were of the artists best performances. But I can't see Carrie being able to branch out into anything besides country she has that country twang in her voice and at this point I dunno if the training could completely rid her of that especially on the high notes. This isn't a bad thing, carrie will stick around for a long time (with the loyal country fans)
Both of them are so successful because they sing in 2 different worlds. when carrie won she not only won because of her voice in my opinion which is beautiful, she also won because we didn't need another pop failure, and we certainly didn't need or want another KC.
Truthfully we got our pop, country and rock icons out of AI and they are super popular and amazingly talented so i see little room for improvement, and i see AI being cancelled within the next couple years.
There are a couple things I do want to credit Kelly with however. She stuck around!! which is major in the pop industry as fans are generally less loyal there than in country. And when it comes down to artistry and not just voice kelly takes the winnings, not only has she stuck around in the harder industry she also wrote MANY of her own singles and wrote or cowrote the entire My December album which was one of the best albums (all genres) in a long time, but sadly overlooked and underpromoted
What Kelly is more soulful and can Kelly has the higher range no question, she can go all the way to the highest note, Carrie can't. Both girls rock though. :)

@JZ311995 Your *opinion* is FALSE though! It can be someone's *opinion* that the sky is green, which they're entitled to, but they're STILL incorrect. Carrie can take her chest voice up to F#5 and sustain it WITH vibrato. She can also sustain Ds, Ebs, Es, and Fs with vibrato. Christina can barely even belt above an E5! and when she does, the notes are super-thin, short, and have ZERO vibrato. You see, you have no leg to stand on when it comes to any of this because you CLEARLY don't understand.

Carrie Underwood all the way! I was backstage listening to Kelly warm up before a concert once and she couldn't hit this one particular note and she even screamed "shit! I can't ever hit that note anymore!!" so therefore that means she's starting to lose what she used to have..

Both are good, strong singers. I prefer Kelly's tone, which can turn to raspy at times. Which tone a person likes seems so subjective, though, that it gets a bit ridiculous to try to crown one or the another "best", especially when they can both hit the notes so well. For tone, I like Whitney and Kelly (and Pink who sounds a lot like Kelly) and that's just about it. Then again, I may be a tad wee bit biased. LOL

Kelly Clarkson is positively the best female singer of her generation. Nobody comes close- not Aguilera, not Leona, not Carrie. None of them are as versatile as Clarkson and none of them have the belting range that she has. Only last week she was hitting A5s in concert. Christina Aguilera's head would explode if she attempted such a note. In the My December era Kelly's voice seemed a bit damaged but she is vocally better than she ever was nowadays.

Carrie's is not more versatile cause she isn't yeah she sing rock dissent but Kelly is the only singer I have ever heard that can sing practically ever genre perfectly. When she sings rock it sounds rock, when she sings big band it sounds big band, when she sings country it sounds country, when she sings r&b it sounds r&b, and so fourth. Listen to every one of Kelly's songs and it shows what that girl can do with it that not many can do.

Carrie is not just limited to country. Apparentely you have not been to one of her concerts. She sings rock songs better than some of the original singers. Carrie and Kelly can sing anything effortlessly; I love them both. You cant compare them. But Carrie will be around way longer than Kelly. . .

I love both singers, I have been pretty versatile with the music i listen to and these are my favorite idols. To be fair none of these clips were of the artists best performances. But I can't see Carrie being able to branch out into anything besides country she has that country twang in her voice and at this point I dunno if the training could completely rid her of that especially on the high notes. This isn't a bad thing, carrie will stick around for a long time (with the loyal country fans)

Both of them are so successful because they sing in 2 different worlds. when carrie won she not only won because of her voice in my opinion which is beautiful, she also won because we didn't need another pop failure, and we certainly didn't need or want another KC.
Truthfully we got our pop, country and rock icons out of AI and they are super popular and amazingly talented so i see little room for improvement, and i see AI being cancelled within the next couple years.

There are a couple things I do want to credit Kelly with however. She stuck around!! which is major in the pop industry as fans are generally less loyal there than in country. And when it comes down to artistry and not just voice kelly takes the winnings, not only has she stuck around in the harder industry she also wrote MANY of her own singles and wrote or cowrote the entire My December album which was one of the best albums (all genres) in a long time, but sadly overlooked and underpromoted

range is key. but it's not the only key. you can strangle a goat and an A5 can come out of it. don't get how these two can be compared to each other. honestly, i like kelly a lot more. but that's not saying carrie doesn't have a good range too. but look, let's be honest, can anyone ever imagine carrie singing rnb or rock? the closest she can get to rock would be pop-rock i guess. that's not saying she isn't a good singer. just maybe not as flexible as kelly.

i think carrie can belt a G#5, but she hasn't yet. just cuz you can sing a note doesn't mean you always should lol. and higher belting doesn't always mean a better singer. compare jessica simpson and uk singer alexandra burke, jessica can belt her way up to a G5, and alex's highest belt s an F#5 but alex is a much better singer
