Wow, love love love his playing at 1:13-1:37. So many violinists take this passage way too fast and it loses the otherworldly beauty Tchaikovsky intended.
I am sorry for my english, but the best interpretation of this concert is Oistrakh and Heifetz.I remember a live concert of Milstein, where he played a fantastic Bach Ciaccona,he had 78 years old, great violinist.I think in the violin story, nobody was a great violinist just this age.
I really have to say I don't like this performance. He puts so many accents in this and changes the bowings too much..Heifetz's recording is far more lyrical.
that's because nathan milstein never played a piece the same way for each performance... He was a genius that always experimented and was never boring
Heifetz, lyrical? Yes, in the most straight-forwrd way even possible. I mean no offense to his technique, but compared to this, I feel nothing listening to Heifetz. Nothing at all. I feel only his technique.
well put. heifetz makes this sound so cold. but in a way, i think it's amazing what he did with the 2nd mvmt. i've never heard anything like it. the same goes with this
There are only men in the orchestra. Chicago Symphony in the 1960s.

How about the remainder of the first movement,
and the whole third movement?

There's a reason why the entire concerto is not shown- read the description for this video

Respectfully disagree. Both interpretations are divine.

You "feel" Heifetz's technique? LOL In the second bloody movement? So what "technique" is that?
symfotroll 2 years ago
@symfotroll you need to have a very good technique to play well the 2 mvt and those are sometimes the most difficult to play.

@milstein91 well, of course.

The playing is sublime as always. Would you mind posting the beginning of the first mov as well?
