  • This is totally awesome

  • Eno's at 2:20. With feathers. Lighten up!

  • All great, but where was Eno?!? And no feathers!

  • That is better than the original LOL!

  • Oh man, everything about this is golden

  • I've been looking for this for ages!

  • He missed the two hands wave at "we are flying down to Rio" from the original which was always funny anyway.

  • To Wobert e Lee I show it I hope and pway he dont blow it - its jonathan Ross singing! Brilliant stuff.

  • @wp6265 johnathan woss is wetiwing! oh no!

  • do you notice how he's doing jet by wings to try & keep himself alive at the beginning? i remember seeing the episode when it was first aired, can't remember the exact relevance but remember falling off my seat laughing!

  • The thing is, if you then go and watch footage of the real Roxy Music doing the song, it's even MORE ahine!!!!! Ahine! :)

  • The 70s were cool!!

  • Funny at the beginning but then gets boring.

  • Just when you think it can't get funnier Mark Heap appears as Eno. Fantastic

  • Im just wondering who came up with the idea of Chairman Mao coming back from the dead to sing Virginia Plane??? British pure gold comedy!

  • The Eno imitation is freakin awesome and the fact that they have the girls dancing in the background is exactly like the original performance.

  • great comedy, great team

  • haha awesome

  • The very idea of Chairman Mao singing Roxy Music is funny.

    Thats why it is FUNNY!

  • Worth noting that the start of the sketch when Julia Davis? says 'No... No.... No... Noooooo!' in response to Mao's flatlining she uses the same sinister intonation that Ferry uses on the same words in the opening uptempto section of 'Mother of Pearl' -- one for the anoraks I know, but kudos to the team as Big Train's attention to detail is spot on.

  • Lovin Mark Heap as Eno

  • Is there any connection at all between Mao and Bryan Ferry?! This was funny, I just don't get it exactly.

I was wondering if it is implying that Ferry is a bit of a fascist (or just that Mao was actually a bit more laid-back and groovy than he let on!).

  • It's called being silly....

  • You misspelled "genius"! You accidentally wrote silly instead...

  • I think it's just that Ferry sounds a bit like what Mao might sound like if he sang.

  • Nothing to get mate. It's the juxapostion. Just the idea cracks me up....'Chairman Mao gets up from his death bed to sing Virginia Plain.' 'Don't try and sing....you're too weak.'

Did you catch his attempt to sing 'Jet?' 'Oooh, oooh?'

  • I don't think comedy needs to make sense!

  • I love it, even if it is a little odd having the Chairman sing this song from his death bed.

  • yes, I would've liked to have seen them be a bit less silly, a bit less comedic.

  • great performance, bryan's voice is really on form here

  • very funny i like it

  • How much does Simon Pegg look like Gary Numan?

  • OMG, that is so fucking weird, before i read the comments i was thinking the exact same thing, like a gary nurman in the cars video, haha. :P

  • this is the most original series ive ever seen, watch it when your stoned!

  • is tamsin greig the girl at the begining?

  • Julia Davis, I believe

  • I think the real drummer and bassist would look quite a bit older now lol !! I saw Roxy Music live in September 1974, and to this day they are one of the best bands ever. Fantastically original and still bloody brilliant !

  • The full version has been uploaded by Scatterkeir, if you want to browse that users videos

  • is that the real drummer and bassist cos it looks damn like them, simon pegg's on the guitar though

  • i dunno about the bassist (i think it's graham linehan), but the drummer is arthur matthews, who wrote alot of big train with graham.

  • Do you remember that Reeves and Mortimer did it some years later,

  • Pity this clip is not from the start of the sketch, this was the funniest bit from big train for me

  • When I saw this for the first time, I laughed so much, tea came out of my nose...

  • I don't think this sketch was meant to be funny but a spinoff for the series end

  • Genius! : )

What a great Band - Kevin Eldon, Arthur Mathews, Mark Heap and Simon Pegg (Think the bassist is Julia Davis, hence the huge beard and shades)!

Love how they captured the look of 70's Top Of The Pops. Arthur Mathews, as the drummer, reacting to the camera makes this. Fried Gold!

  • This is not even close to Big Trains funniest sketches, but it's still very entertaining! Love Big Train.

  • Great! How about another Roxy?

  • I nearly choked laughing the first time I saw this!!

  • These guys are Hilarious!!! I never Heard of them. I am now a fan..

  • mao is a poor man...viva Roxy Music!

  • Chairman Mao rocked. Still, at least hes up there with Jimi, Janis, Jim, John, Kurt et al, thats something I suppose.

  • It's the second funniest I've ever seen, after a episode of Harry Hill where Mystic Meg sing a duet.

  • How is it that someone pretending to be Chinese actually makes the lyrics easier to understand than someone from the north east of England?! I could never understand what Ferry was singing but somehow Chairman Mao makes sense!!

  • Looks like Rat Scabies (The Damned) on drums!?

  • Golden.

  • my favourite big train moment ever! just a pity the beginning of the sketch was missed! ("don't try to siing yow are toow weak!")

  • Cool. This is like a trip within a trip. I think Kevin Eldon looks like the tamborine player in Brian Jonestown Massacre.

  • love it

  • The great thing about this sketch is that it serves no other purpose than to demonstrate what it would have been like if Chairman Mao got off his sick bed to sing 'Virginia Plain'.

  • Yes, he is.

  • Is he meant to be Chairman Mao?

  • should have been fun if he looked like Mao. boring

  • Wasser name.. Virginia Pwaaaain?

    Utterly brilliant.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahahahahahahaha

communist leaders of china are always hilarious when singing classic british hits!
