NO! again the original argument was ONLY 1 GOLD IN 50 years....you can scroll up and read puck bunny. Then you agreed the WHC golds and such, so i was right yet again you were wrong yet again. you went on to say "not even a single game from the WJHC is even televised in the states" that was your original statement 2 weeks ago. WRONG. then you said "ROTFLMAO no wjhc game has EVER been nationally televised" WRONG AGAIN.. so now what?? Nice Try Puck Bunny, youre on a roll. 0 for ...
how am I wrong? NHL network is not nationally televised! LMAO You're owned as usual Booster. Im still waiting for you to post the Nielson ratings. Also, 1 gold in 50 years refers to the Olympics Booster! Sorry you feel so embarrassed that you wanna count Junior medals. Why dont you count Pan Am games as well? LMFAO

No, I claimed it is not NATIONALLY TELEVISED IN THE US! and its not! How fucking dumb are you? Find the Nielson ratings for the game! You can't, do you know why? Because there arent enough viewers to even come up with a single ratings point you idiot!
It's ok Booster! I know you're trying to argue that the United States actually cares about the world juniors tournament, so I'll just post a bunch of articles on your homepage written by Canadian sportswriters backing up my point! LMFAO asshat!
Oh you didn't claim that it was televised Nationally? LMAO Hmm, well then how in the blue fucking hell could you watch a game in "WEST VIRGINIA?"That is about as far from a hockey hotbed as it gets! Seems like an odd place that an affiliate would choose to pick up a hockey game! LMAO
its called satellite, google it. West Virgina is far from hockey hotbed huh? look at a fuckin map b4 runnin you mouth. i'm pathetic??? youre 36, watch 70 vids every day, pose as a cop on here, say you played div 1 at BC. (which i checked into and you didnt) Puck bunny doesnt count. and try to make it seem like you know what your talkin about. you dont. period. so i'll give you the chance to put your money where your mouth is. i'll be in louisville KY feb 10-15, come back up your BS.
BoSoxnation1972 is another one of those Bruin-loving morons that thinks he's knows everything about everything. He assumes he's right and that there is no comprimise to another person's insight. He assumes he's right and everyone else is wrong. This is typical of Bruin fans, when observed in their natural habitat it can be accurately assumed that they are indeed,--GALACTICALLY STUPID!!
I'd say that I know a lot more about how popular the sport of hickey is in the United States, than some idiot in Canada!
He claims that all of the world juniors tournaments are broadcast nationally! Why dont you share with us on what network? LMAO ESPN, VS, ESPN2? NBC CBS ABC, FOX? Nope...none of those! LMAO
youre fucking dumb. ESPN2 used to carry them, NHL network carried them in the us for the 09 wjc. ROFLMAO you just got owned again!!! holy fuck how many times to i have to disprove the shit that comes out of your mouth?? the only true thing that comes out of your mouth is your boyfriends cock.
In my opinion, and in the opinion of many others, the hockey played in the world junior tournament is just as intense as any other tournament there is in any sport. And more intense than most.
Hey Bosox, if the US doesn't take it seriously, why do you send a team? Why not stay home and play football, basketball and baseball? Where are these Russian players playing for money in Canada? In junior? All the Europeans playing junior here that were good enough(those under 20) were representing their country. Hell, Canada had a couple dandys(Stamkos and Doughty) playing in the NHL that were eligable. Pretty much everything else you say is legit, but that stastement didn't make much sense.
Hey BoSox, Yeah we have one olympic gold(BTW, who was that against?), but we've won a few world championships, 15 world junior golds and the 2004 World Cup, not to mention 3 Canada Cups. I'd say we're doing okay.
first off, you can count the world cups because those were legit wins against legit teams, but the world juniors tournaments? LAMO They are a complete joke!
Not a single game from the world junior tournament is even televised in the United States. Many of Russia's best players don't play because they are already in Canada playing for money, and the US doesn't take the tournament seriously at all. When they won a few years back, it was a bigger deal in Canada because nobody here cared! LMFAO
Would you be referring to "Bob" Clarke, the failed former Phliarz GM who volunteered to serve as a "character witness" on behalf of deposed and since jailed and disbarred former NHLPA head Alan Eagleson? Or are you referring to Bobby Clarke, the hockey player, who...among other gutless, unforgivable deeds...intentionally, deliberately and successfully broke the ankle of Valery Kharlamov, the best Russian player, during the 1972 Soviet-Canada Summit Series? Sad.
yeas, or the guy who instigated fights with cheap-shot chops to thee backs of guys legs and then hid behind his goon teammates - this guy is a gutless maggot puke - should be hall of flamer, not hall of famer, what an embarrassing nappy-eaded perm boy...
Kharlamov's ankle was already hurt...Clark just gave him a 2 hander reinjuring it, not breaking it. It was a clear cheap shot, and definitely detracted from the win...especially since Canada was supposed to walk all over the Soviets. I also think that only 1 gold medal in the past 50 years for a country that's supposed to be the best in the world at hockey is embarrassing.
1 gold in the past 50 years yes. (7 since 1920) if you dont count all the wjc (5 golds in a row btw), the womens program which has 2 olympic gold and one silver, all the world hockey championships, the spenglar cups, canada cups, world womens championships, the under 18 program, under 17 program, etc. the U.S has won 0 golds in the past 25 years(2 golds since 1920) in mens hockey, 1 gold EVER in womens. pretty sad from a country of around 300 million vs 30 million.
Most Canadians grow up playing hockey! In the America, less than 5% of kids grow up playing it. Hockey is only popular regionally in the US, and our best athletes play football, basketball, and baseball. Your best athletes play hockey! So the pool of players Canada drafts from far outnumbers the pool of US players. Hockey is big in Boston and Minnesota, & very few other places! But the # of Americans increases every year, while the # of Canadians declines! There arent enough youth rinks here.
hey sparwood8: i agree 200% that the flyers in the 70's sold out wherever they went. I can remember vividly sitting in my parents living room on saturday night watching hockey night in canada with tiger williams. They were still a bunch of goons.
It's true, Bobby Clarke was the perfect center for those great Flyer teams of the mid-70's. Still, he tended to mouth off, because he knew his teammates would back him up. On those rare occasions when he was forced into a fight with someone who knew how to use his fists, he usually came out on the short end, unless his mates stepped in. I'll always picture him on the ice, with that big gap-toothed grin. He was talented, no doubt.
Clarke is a guy you love and hate in the same minute. Totally agree re: Neilson. God doesn't make guys like Roger anymore. Clark was the best faceoff man ever... Doug Jarvis ran a close second
You know what?I'm a huge Habs fan but I'm sick and tired of people putting the Flyers of the 70's down.Listen, they had a lot of talent,Clarke,Leach,Barber,McCleish,Parent and nobody outworked them.Throw in a solid defensive system and you have a championship team.I never liked these guys but I always respected them.
Who the heck called Bobby Clarke a coward? He had more guts in his little pinky than most hockey players. Ever seen a closeup of his face? It looks like a railroad map from all the stitches he took. Clarkie didn't fight much or well because he was the team's top scorer and playmaker. And he was a winner, plain and simple.
I hated the flyers in the 70's. Nobody was third man in like the flyers when they were losing a fight. If you want to see a great video of dave schultz getting destroyed, check out larry robinson on you tube. It is even better than the gillies fight.
hey 83 year old, clarke was no coward. and I must say that I was never a 'Bobby' clarke fan. and of course he would never mix it up with a tough guy, he was too smart and tactful for that. he did anything to get opposing players off their game, including extreme cheap shots. but overall he was a pretty fearless player. did everything for a reason. guess you guys never played.
Clarke was a very good player, but a cheap shot artist and a dangerous spearer. outcast is right, when he got chippy he'd run like a little scared Frenchman behind Schultz and then play Mr. Tough Guy. This time Sanderson got to him first.
Nick Fotiu, in his first year in the NHL, challenged Clarke to a fight in Philly. Bobby Clarke was a great player, a great leader, a winner and a Hall of Famer, but at this moment he shit his pants like the punk he was and froze until a linesman and two of his teammates were between he and Fotiu. Only then did Clarke play 'Let me at im'. Everybody in the NHL has to be tough to survive and great ones like Clarke are tough in their own way, but to act the part and not step up is pathetic.
Do you know why Clarke was afraid to fight Fotiu? Because Schultz was afraid to fight Fotiu. Fotiu challenged Schultz every time they played and Schultz never fought Fotiu. Not once. The only flyer tough guys that fought Fotiu were Holmgren and Behn Wilson and Nicky kicked both their asses.
Ben Wilson picked his spots, but Fotiu was a former light heavyweight Golden Gloves Champion, and in NYC no less. LHW't is 178 and under, so Nick bulked up for the NHL and played at about 200. Nice guy though
Holmgren and Fotiu didn't split wins. One fight was a nothing fight where if you were biased you could say that Holmgren won. In the other fight Fotiu beat Holmgren into the ice and as usual all the flyers jumped in.
are you on crack? I have both fights on tape and they split...no doubt about it. In the game on January 23rd of 83', Holmgren cut Fotiu. It wasn't a great fight as they were in tight, but Nick was bleeding.
LMAO Typical Ranger homer. First off, Fotiu beat Wilson, but Wilson was just a rookie while Nick was in his prime. Wilson lost a few fights his rookie year, including one to Wensink and one to Bert Wilson. Fotiu and Barry Beck were tough, but Fotiu never dropped them with any of the Big Bad Bruins. Nick's only fight against Boston was against a guy that had 2 career fights (Marco Baron)
Anyone that Fotiu didn't fight was because they didn't want to fight him. Do you think that Fotiu would be afraid of O'Reilly? What drugs are you on? Dave Schultz said publicly that he was afraid to fight Fotiu. Fotiu was an enforcer, not a goon. Fotiu never picked on weaker players like the flyers or bruins did.
lmao Stan Jonathan was 5'6 on skates. What smaller players did he pick on? O'Reilly never turned down a fight in his career! Wensink only lost a handful of fights ever!
And as far as the Bruins terrorizing NY, I remember them going into the stands and Milbury beating a fan with his own shoe! O'Reilly fought Gillies 6 times. Gillies was the heavyweight champ back then, and rarely lost until he was over 30 and past his prime...but Terry manager a couple of wins against the champ.
I'd say Terry O'Reilly's fight card is far more impressive! Terry fought many of the top 10 fighters of all time like Wilson, Playfair, and Gillies MULTIPLE TIMES each! He also fought Dave Richter, Moose Dupont, Kim Clackson, Mel Bridgeman, Holmgren, Dave Schultz, Semenko, Wilf Paiement, Nilan, Glen Cochrane, Randy Holt, Eddie Shack, Pat Quinn Harrold Snepsts, Jack McIlhargey, Curt Fraser, Tim Hunter, Kleinendorst, Rick Dudley, Jack Carlson, Tiger Williams, & Butch Deadmarsh. impressive list!
Fotiu's included some of the same names: Jack McIlhargey(who beat Fotiu twice), Pat Quinn, Holmgren, Wilson, Holt, Nilan, Tim Hunter, & Wilf Paiement, but the rest aren't as impressive. I honestly think Barry Beck was a more feared fighter, and neither guy fought much. I actually wanted the Bruins to trade for Bubba when I was a kid because I liked his style. Even when he was old, he managed a couple of draws with Big Dave Brown, and beat a young touch Tocchet.
Unless CLARKE GILLIES was around. His butt whuppin of Schultz at the Spectrum of all places, in 1975, is history. That one fight finished Schultz; he admitted he was terrified of Gillies. And no Flyer even attempted to atone for that punch out !!! If the Flyers were so bad and tough, please explain the entire team being afraid of "Jethro" ??????
I just love to watch this and see Bobbie Clarke get tuned in his one and only fight (he crfied and pee'd his pants and ran away from the others)! LOVE IT!
I met Derek Sanderson when I was eleven at the Nassau Coliseum for a Bruins/Islanders game. He was smoking a cigarette in the stairwell behind the broadcast booth. Yeah, my dad walks right up to him and they started talking like old pals. Sanderson is a great guy. He even took his 1970 Stanley Cup Championship Ring off his finger and let my brother and I try it on. THE 1970 ring from the man who fed Bobby Orr one of the most famous goals in hockey history.
I love the comment by the announcer "If you can't hold 2, then they shouldn't hold 1". Reminds me of the low life on Philly, Downie, sucker punching Blake a couple weeks back.
Bobbie was a gutless cheap-shot artist who cowered and lipped off behind his teammates (accidentally got caught up with Sanderson anbd got totally tuned even after Sanderson was string out on alcohol and old at this point), he is a quitter, loser and cheapshot artist (see Lindros) as a GM who is a maggot in every sense of the word, in every decade - what a disgrace...
agree 100% on Clarke...he shoulda given both his rings to Bernie Parent in gratitude...watch the clip on Larry Robinson clobbering Schultz and listen to the comments about Clarke and his stick work...but his worst was a spear on Rod Seiling at MLG
1975 cup buffalo vrs philly...perreault should have spanked clark right after the opening face off game #1...it would have been a different series...it wouldnt have been pretty, but they were team mates internationally, virtually the same team, clark took advantage of the term sportsmanship...now thats an asshole for ya...

@WatchVenusSpa I don't know if Clarke had courage persay. And I'll agree, he's quite opinionated now a days. He was tough, and there's proof of that. But if nothing else, give him credit for his work ethic.

NO! again the original argument was ONLY 1 GOLD IN 50 years....you can scroll up and read puck bunny. 0 for ...

BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Oh you didn't claim that it was televised Nationally? LMAO Hmm, well then how in the blue fucking hell could you watch a game in "WEST VIRGINIA?"That is about as far from a hockey hotbed as it gets! Seems like an odd place that an affiliate would choose to pick up a hockey game! LMAO

BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
youre fucking dumb.
Brentelec 3 years ago
In my opinion, and in the opinion of many others, the hockey played in the world junior tournament is just as intense as any other tournament there is in any sport. And more intense than most.
medaman69 3 years ago
Hey Bosox, if the US doesn't take it seriously, why do you send a team? Why not stay home and play football, basketball and baseball? Where are these Russian players playing for money in Canada? In junior? All the Europeans playing junior here that were good enough(those under 20) were representing their country. Hell, Canada had a couple dandys(Stamkos and Doughty) playing in the NHL that were eligable. Pretty much everything else you say is legit, but that stastement didn't make much sense.
medaman69 3 years ago
Hey BoSox, Yeah we have one olympic gold(BTW, who was that against?), but we've won a few world championships, 15 world junior golds and the 2004 World Cup, not to mention 3 Canada Cups. I'd say we're doing okay.
medaman69 3 years ago
first off, you can count the world cups because those were legit wins against legit teams, but the world juniors tournaments?

Sad.
OrrCountry 3 years ago 2
yeas, or the guy who instigated fights with cheap-shot chops to thee backs of guys legs and then hid behind his goon teammates - this guy is a gutless maggot puke - should be hall of flamer, not hall of famer, what an embarrassing nappy-eaded perm boy...
rowerrunner 3 years ago 3
Yeah, that sort put a damper on the Canada victory for me. If Kharlamov hadn't been injured, I'm not so sure Canada wins.
gepetto2k 3 years ago
Kharlamov's ankle was already hurt...Clark just gave him a 2 hander reinjuring it, not breaking it. It was a clear cheap shot, and definitely detracted from the win...especially since Canada was supposed to walk all over the Soviets. I also think that only 1 gold medal in the past 50 years for a country that's supposed to be the best in the world at hockey is embarrassing.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
1 gold in the past 50 years yes. (7 since 1920) if you dont count all the wjc (5 golds in a row btw), the womens program which has 2 olympic gold and one silver, all the world hockey championships, the spenglar cups, canada cups, world womens championships, the under 18 program, under 17 program, etc. the U.S has won 0 golds in the past 25 years(2 golds since 1920) in mens hockey, 1 gold EVER in womens. pretty sad from a country of around 300 million vs 30 million.
Brentelec 3 years ago
Most Canadians grow up playing hockey! In the America, less than 5% of kids grow up playing it. Hockey is only popular regionally in the US, and our best athletes play football, basketball, and baseball. Your best athletes play hockey! So the pool of players Canada drafts from far outnumbers the pool of US players. Hockey is big in Boston and Minnesota, & very few other places! But the # of Americans increases every year, while the # of Canadians declines! There arent enough youth rinks here.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Although Jarvis has been ranked as best of all time, by many who played this game. I will give you Sanderson though...
sparwood8 3 years ago
hey sparwood8: i agree 200% that the flyers in the 70's sold out wherever they went. I can remember vividly sitting in my parents living room on saturday night watching hockey night in canada with tiger williams. They were still a bunch of goons.
buckett1965 3 years ago
It's true, Bobby Clarke was the perfect center for those great Flyer teams of the mid-70's. Still, he tended to mouth off, because he knew his teammates would back him up. On those rare occasions when he was forced into a fight with someone who knew how to use his fists, he usually came out on the short end, unless his mates stepped in. I'll always picture him on the ice, with that big gap-toothed grin. He was talented, no doubt.
ftsjr 3 years ago
Clarke is a guy you love and hate in the same minute. Totally agree re: Neilson. God doesn't make guys like Roger anymore. Clark was the best faceoff man ever... Doug Jarvis ran a close second

Derek Sanderson was a better face-off guy than either Clarke or Jarvis.

Clark's best asset was his work ethic, but he was chicken to fight anyone, except maybe someone like Keith Acton
sparwood8 3 years ago 3
Clarke was a shitstain on the hockey world then and he still is. His treatment of Roger Nielsen was dispicable.
HelmutHedd 3 years ago 4
Who the heck called Bobby Clarke a coward? He had more guts in his little pinky than most hockey players. Ever seen a closeup of his face? It looks like a railroad map from all the stitches he took. Clarkie didn't fight much or well because he was the team's top scorer and playmaker. And he was a winner, plain and simple.
alartandy 3 years ago 2
john ferguson said of sanderson that he was one the best fighters he ever fought.

I hated the flyers in the 70's. Nobody was third man in like the flyers when they were losing a fight. If you want to see a great video of dave schultz getting destroyed, check out larry robinson on you tube. It is even better than the gillies fight.

clarke was a good player but a coward
MASKETO444 3 years ago
hey 83 year old, clarke was no coward. and I must say that I was never a 'Bobby' clarke fan. and of course he would never mix it up with a tough guy, he was too smart and tactful for that. he did anything to get opposing players off their game, including extreme cheap shots. but overall he was a pretty fearless player. did everything for a reason. guess you guys never played.
gcdcjccc 3 years ago
Clarke was a very good player, but a cheap shot artist and a dangerous spearer. outcast is right, when he got chippy he'd run like a little scared Frenchman behind Schultz and then play Mr. Tough Guy. This time Sanderson got to him first.
macsters451 3 years ago
Nick Fotiu, in his first year in the NHL, challenged Clarke to a fight in Philly. Bobby Clarke was a great player, a great leader, a winner and a Hall of Famer, but at this moment he shit his pants like the punk he was and froze until a linesman and two of his teammates were between he and Fotiu. Only then did Clarke play 'Let me at im'. Everybody in the NHL has to be tough to survive and great ones like Clarke are tough in their own way, but to act the part and not step up is pathetic.
outcast1026 3 years ago 2
Do you know why Clarke was afraid to fight Fotiu? Because Schultz was afraid to fight Fotiu. Fotiu challenged Schultz every time they played and Schultz never fought Fotiu. Not once. The only flyer tough guys that fought Fotiu were Holmgren and Behn Wilson and Nicky kicked both their asses.
meanwiddlekid 3 years ago
Ben Wilson picked his spots, but Fotiu was a former light heavyweight Golden Gloves Champion, and in NYC no less. LHW't is 178 and under, so Nick bulked up for the NHL and played at about 200. Nice guy though
sparwood8 3 years ago
Holmgren and Fotiu fought twice, splitting the wins. The toughest guy on the Flyers in the 70's was Mel Bridgeman.
Zaphrod88 3 years ago
Holmgren and Fotiu didn't split wins. One fight was a nothing fight where if you were biased you could say that Holmgren won. In the other fight Fotiu beat Holmgren into the ice and as usual all the flyers jumped in.
meanwiddlekid 3 years ago
are you on crack? I have both fights on tape and they split...no doubt about it. In the game on January 23rd of 83', Holmgren cut Fotiu. It wasn't a great fight as they were in tight, but Nick was bleeding.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
LMAO Typical Ranger homer. First off, Fotiu beat Wilson, but Wilson was just a rookie while Nick was in his prime. Wilson lost a few fights his rookie year, including one to Wensink and one to Bert Wilson. Fotiu and Barry Beck were tough, but Fotiu never dropped them with any of the Big Bad Bruins. Nick's only fight against Boston was against a guy that had 2 career fights (Marco Baron)
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Anyone that Fotiu didn't fight was because they didn't want to fight him. Do you think that Fotiu would be afraid of O'Reilly? What drugs are you on? Dave Schultz said publicly that he was afraid to fight Fotiu. Fotiu was an enforcer, not a goon. Fotiu never picked on weaker players like the flyers or bruins did.
meanwiddlekid 3 years ago
lmao Stan Jonathan was 5'6 on skates.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
I'd say Terry O'Reilly's fight card is far more impressive! Terry fought many of the top 10 fighters of all time like Wilson, Playfair, and Gillies MULTIPLE TIMES each! He also fought Dave Richter, Moose Dupont, Kim Clackson, Mel Bridgeman, Holmgren, Dave Schultz, Semenko, Wilf Paiement, Nilan, Glen Cochrane, Randy Holt, Eddie Shack, Pat Quinn Harrold Snepsts, Jack McIlhargey, Curt Fraser, Tim Hunter, Kleinendorst, Rick Dudley, Jack Carlson, Tiger Williams, & Butch Deadmarsh. impressive list!
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
Fotiu's included some of the same names: Jack McIlhargey(who beat Fotiu twice), Pat Quinn, Holmgren, Wilson, Holt, Nilan, Tim Hunter, & Wilf Paiement, but the rest aren't as impressive. I honestly think Barry Beck was a more feared fighter, and neither guy fought much. I actually wanted the Bruins to trade for Bubba when I was a kid because I liked his style. Even when he was old, he managed a couple of draws with Big Dave Brown, and beat a young touch Tocchet.
BoSoxnation1972 3 years ago
I gurantee you that Schultz, Saleski, Dupont, Kelly and the rest of the boys made Sanderson pay dearly for tangling with Clarkie!!!!
lansdaler5 3 years ago
Unless CLARKE GILLIES was around. His butt whuppin of Schultz at the Spectrum of all places, in 1975, is history. That one fight finished Schultz; he admitted he was terrified of Gillies. And no Flyer even attempted to atone for that punch out !!! If the Flyers were so bad and tough, please explain the entire team being afraid of "Jethro" ??????
sulliva 3 years ago
I recall Behn Wilson beating Gillies...couple of times. No one feared Gillies.
