  • If your looking for an engineering job- go serious jobs dot com they PAY you to get hired so glad i found them.

  • I am an electrical power engineering graduated 1 year ago (from accredited college by ABET :) ). Electrical engineering (especially electrical power engineering) required a lot of math. I always describe EE by 60% of math + 30% of theories and concepts + 10% of imagination.

Unfortunately, you will not use all things that you learned in your job :(

  • @tammaaaashee 10% Imagimanacion?

  • FUCK!

  • What is a typical day like for an EE?

I'm looking for internships this summer so I want to get an idea of what I'm jumping into if I get hired.

  • 1:05 ......Fuck

  • 0:17 "yewws my plans are coming to fruition. MUAAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

  • SERGIY I LOVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • In a cubicle? WTF?

Outside or building circuits man... that's what I want.

The math isn't the scary part (well getting your mind fucked is but worth it), it is sitting behind a desk dreaming of the shit you could be building.

    I hope grantburgh1 is right.

  • Engineering is fine if you have relatives or friends that help you get in. This is not the case with me. I can not get interviews, despite my EE degree PLUS experience from 10 years ago.

Unemployment among American engineers is high. They wasted too much time and money for chasing a dream that they never really had a chance in obtaining--that was my case.

Colleges should only let in enough students to replace the available engineering jobs.

Why help create such a high unemployment rate?

  • @PatriotARR1 Ok, I'm not gonna rag on you. by saying maybe it's not the field which is full. But I'm considering Majoring in EE, my granddad wants me too. and I want to also. but what do you mean, no jobs? can you elaborate a little bit, any advise? you can message me.

  • There is way more brances in Eletrical Engineering. She was on a power engineering

  • Calculus is awesome, especially the higher forms (Calc 2, 3). And so is electrical engineering.

  • that's nothing.. try working as an electrical engineer in an office full of old bastards who aren't familiar with the digital side. in fact, electrical engineering these days is about 85% digital and 15% analog. when you guys graduate, make sure you look for positions as "electronics engineer" instead of electrical. they'll assume that you're a power guy.

  • I want to be an engineer

  • @KhyberBoy09 then study as if your life depended on it. That is how i'm doing it.

  • @RTRVII How's it going with the studying man?

  • @UniverseOffspring doing pretty fine i'm in my third year electromechanical engineering. Thanks for asking =)

  • @RTRVII That's cool man, good luck.

  • @RTRVII Does a person have to be pretty good at math, and do it all without the use of calculators? I usually do problems without a calculator, because I feel that if I don't- that I will not prevail. It's safe to assume that you and other engineers/engineer students, use calculators with your math right? Is it even heard of to you, of doing calculus without a calculator?

  • @UniverseOffspring We are only allowed to use simple calculators like the type fx-92 (google it). They're simple in the meaning that they don't support graphical features.

Of course we use calculators all day, because you need them really badly for all the exercices. If you can do things like logarithms, square roots and complex exponentials by heart, then you're a genius :). So for short: we all use calculators, because not using it would be hugely inefficient...does that answer your question?

  • @UniverseOffspring (cont'd) Well you do need to have a good basis for mathematics.I wasn't the best at math when I started, but when you invest enough time in it from the start (they do explain most things again, but really quick) then you should be able to handle it, if you didn't have much trouble in highschool.

You don't have to be a math 'genius', of course , lot of them go study engineering, and it's handy, but a 'mediocre' mind with the right attitude has a really decent chance too.

  • @RTRVII Thanks for the info man, I really appreciate it. Good luck with your studies.

  • @KhyberBoy09 me too. :-)

  • Electrical engineers are also responsible for designing every cell phone, computer, microwave, television, internet router, etc. every produced. How could this video be so antiquated?

  • @kkranen Bullshit. Mathematicians and physicists had more to do with the development of those technologies. Engineers contributed more in manufacturing design.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s mathmaticians, developed the math. Physicists deal with matter. (atoms, or planets) laws of the universe.

  • @ZachariahLogan Nonsense, physicists constantly deal with mathematics. Physicists often hold a minor or second degree in Mathematics.

  • @chroniclerofthe70s my bad, I mis-spoke on physics. Let me respeak. they use math to explain the laws of matter, and massless particles. I apologize.

  • I'm in electrical engineering. Calculus III is just an easy A+. If calculus is hard to you; don't major in EE.

  • @45calc

Ive taken all of single variable and multivariable with A's and B's not too difficult maybe thats why Im an electrical engineering major

  • @45calc calculus IV is probably the easiest calc class there is... but you're right. calc III is easy. calc II is what'll tear you up in shreds.

  • @45calc lol I am a Computer Engineering and I got B in Calculus III but some how I got an A in Differential Equation

  • @45calc That's ridiculous. In life, one must face adversity and overcome it in order to achieve any meaningful success. If something is too difficult initially, you do not give up; you work towards getting better. If "calculus is hard to you", and you want to major in electrical engineering, then by all means, pursue it! A challenge-seeking attitude towards life is a praised quality in an engineer.

  • Doctors deserve everything they get, they have a ton of responsibility plus they have to go through over 10 years of schooling

  • @quest8899 So why are you watching a video on electrical engineering?

  • can i design computer hardware if i become an electrical engineer?

  • @xanafanadu Yeah, but I would rather suggest you choose computer engineer if you want to focus on computers. E.E is more broad.

  • @xanafanadu nah nt really, u gotta be an electronics engineer to do that. but most of the universities provide course called electrical and electronics engineering which im doing. so i have studied the micro electronics and have designed heaps of electronics machines during my course as project work. but my major is power systems which is completly electrical. the point is if u wanna design comp hardware u must do electronics engineering and im capable of both which is even better

  • engineer is credit to team.

  • guys calculus is pie, pun entended, but after DE and Linear Algrebra yea it starts to suck... alot.

  • @prah90 i hate fourier...

  • at the junior engineers sometimes. Debugging these tests is very, very frustrating. There are always small anomalies. I do see long and weird calculus equations drawn on their white boards. Oh yeah, I saw people working on Google TV in the lab, it is nice. It is a nice work environment, but its very demanding. The cafeteria is really nice though. But still, this is why i choose petroleum engineering instead. It requires even longer hours, but I am OK with it because their is no damn debugging!

  • I really don't like electrical engineering, you know why? My dad works as one at Intel Corporation and he helped design the core series of processors, and now, a video analytics chip. But, its a very, very frustrating job. He works for 7 am and comes back home at 7 pm and when he comes home, he eats, and get on the phone conference for 3 hours. All they do is run tests after tests, after tests, and they all have little software and hardware bugs, it is VERY frustrating. I hear my dad screaming

  • But he probably makes alot of money at the end of the day.

  • @fugiboo

yes, but then, why does a doctor who comes to work at 7 and leaves at 4 get 250 k when an electrical engineer comes to work at 8 and leaves at 8 PM and has phone conferences going till 1 AM get paid 175k?

175 k is still a lot yes, but too much effort.

  • Because a doctor has more years of schooling so his/her life is easier.

  • @fugiboo

Yeah, but only 2 years more.

And you have seen how much effort real doctors do.

i am talking about the family doctors and they still get 250k.

They check you up,do basic proportionality math and give you a prescription...............

    yeah............overpaid.10x

  • @fugiboo A Doctros life is not easier you un-educated person. Geesh, the stress involved in that job is beyond anything you can ever mentally handle or graps your puny mind around.

  • @fugiboo thts true man. thy spend more time at skool so practically rhy deserve more. I am en engineering student bt im quite happy with the money engineers get paid. its still quite a lot

  • 0:24 need a dispencer right here

  • nice

  • Man electrical engineering is tight mayne, unlike those civil engineers who state the obvious "Uh its about a mile" lol

  • A person can never be called an engineer when his job is basically behind a desk.

  • @Airbusftw

wth.. what do you think they do on that desk? They're using scientific knowledge learned throughout college to solve practical problems :S And that pretty much sums up an engineer.

  • fail video, this is a desk job. real engineers are at places like MIT. thats where real science and engineering take place. check out MITs youtube stuff for what real engineers do.

  • @jaymcd84

They also examine and analyze the actual project to see if it needs modifications,., so they do go outside on the field.

  • Comment removed

  • Basically a nerd.

lmao jk i want to be be beacause of great pay.

  • she basically just described a power engineer, electrical engineering covers waaaay more than that

  • @grantburgh1 true that..bt I myself is doin my major in power engineering but wud still be called electrical engineer but i wud really prefer 2 be called A Power Engineer

  • @grantburgh1 You are correct.

  • @grantburgh1 I am starting school very soon on becoming an Electrical Engineer. Do you have any tips as to what I should concentrate on and what is mainly "filler?" Most jobs have filler that is common sense stuff. What should I look at?

  • @grantburgh1 exactly ee's are responsible for EVERY technology today based on electricity. Physicists developed and understanding of electricity that ee's use to create every piece of electrical technology today.

  • I always wanted to be an engineer., but I fail a basic higschool math due difficulties in numbers. Now I am working as a waiter with wages that is hard to to have a family

My dad was a great electrical engineer.

  • EXCUSES, YOU ARE JUST LAZY..

  • @jaguarclaw i'm gonna ask you a bunch of questiones and i want them answered immidiately

  • I'M A COP YOU IDIOT.

  • @debit256 ITS NOT A TUMOR!

  • as soon as i saw the chick pick up the calculus book, fuck electrical engineering!

  • lol. Calculus makes everything easier. I consider trigonometry more difficult that calculus. It only looks complicated, it's really simple if you're a visual person.

  • @sparklerbombg Aww calc isn't so bad!! Don't let that stop you!!!

  • @sparklerbombg calc is just math...

  • @sparklerbombg prick

  • @MaricAlistaro suck cock

  • @sparklerbombg hahaha apparently I left my youtube account on at school. I have never even seen this vid. Sorry sparklebombg, I mean really. Kinda funny though.

  • @sparklerbombg I think you mean, fuck engineering. Calculus is essential to it.

  • @Wond3rballs trust me all calculus is considered the easy part in the program u should see signal analysis and megnetics! now those courses are hardcooore!

  • @ssbahaggag Yes those courses are tougher, but signal analyses and magnetics are not "essential" parts of engineering. You can be an engineer and have minimal background with those topics.

  • @sparklerbombg

after a while calculus, algebra and math become intertwined into one essential tool

  • @sparklerbombg I'm in Calculus right now, it's not even that hard. From my perspective, It's all a mindset. If you believe it's too hard for you and beyond your capabilities it will be.

  • @sparklerbombg

hey man Im not a nerd and Im good at calculus haha

  • @sparklerbombg Thats hysterical! Calculus isn't that notorious, is it?

  • @sparklerbombg really? you'll lose so much fun, besides, if you learned to walk, you can easily learn math

  • haha to the person below me: you wont have to worry about that, you cant even spell college so how do you expect to get in?

  • ha ha .good one.

  • you ignore the fact that english is not that person's 1st language...try and speak his language with the aptitude with which he speaks english.

  • itdont matter man. what u said to me was uncalled for...thats it........it was low as well......just go and life ur life man. dont reply bak

  • whatever man. look at what study does 2 u? it makes a person like U, YOU. you langauge is one thing...it shows that type of family u have been raised in...it shows that your parents were pimps and hoes..among other things....

one things for sure. fight me in person with yout hands, wanker, not with your words

  • if u are a graduate then yes call me a pussy...but if you are a prick/nerd then go study ok. lifes not just about solving equation, actually you are the pussy 'jaguar'.

  • i've been studying computer science for a year and a half and i quit the college i don't find my self in it :(

then i got a scholarship from my saudi government to study electric engineering in canada should i go for it? even that i hate math ?

  • I guess no one cares in this field what you have to bring to table. I mean revolutionary ideas like new electrical design. All these engineering jobs stress math and physics don't they know that human mind is limited.

  • The human mind is limited but then again we do not use it's full potential & you have to train it to achieve more & more always. You have to push your limits. EE is hard. It's not for everyone & for those that this doesn't come easy to have to work extremely hard!

  • WHy did I choose this major...now I want to change it. I have never been good in math.Any recommendations?

  • maybe electrical engineering technology - its better for ppl who don like math

  • i m not sur

  • I'm about to be a senior and in high school and I'm thinking about becoming a electrical engineer. My learning style is I memorize things first hand then understand it later, is this a good field for me to go into if I have this mindset?

  • This might be good to do with some math & science formulas but sometimes if you don't understand the formulas, it doesn't help you at all. You can have a whole page of formulas for a test but still do very bad if you don't understand the material bc most of the time you have to derive the formula or pick out certain information from the problem that is not so obvious.

  • you'll be able to adapt in college--you get used to the fact that concepts far outweigh memorization in EE.

not to generalize, but biology majors memorize; EEs memorize maybe 5 equations (for the sake of argument...if you want to be specific, let's say 4...Maxwell's ;P), understand them well, generate dozens of equations from them, solve problems, design with them...and improve the world :) it's hard, time consuming work, but rewarding.

  • hi. is any maths.circuit theory used in actual engineers jobs> thanks

  • lol study.. hard work is what makes you learn not the other way around

  • hi man, im in my 2nd year of elec eng...man it gets harder...have u done laplace, S plane and 2nd order crcts? i wanto drop out...cos the workload just kills me!

  • Hi, I haven't done any of those because this is just my first year.

  • hi man ...maths is not a problem...its the analysis of cirucits!

  • i wonder if there is a chance to get engineer in collage if you pick a construcktion worker program, and after that study on engineer?

  • wuts the difference btwn,,an ee,,and mechanical engineere...and biomedical engineere as well??

  • EE is what you saw in the above video. It deals with electricity in a large scale (like power for a building). ME is with machinery. Bio engineering is like making prosthetics, (using your engineering for medical purposes). Electronic engineering is working with electricity on a small scale (computers, circuits).

  • Do electrical engineers get their own offices?

  • Does anyone know if electrical engineers learn computer programming languages to make electrical devices such as robots to work? or does anyone know what degree deals with both software programming and electrical engineering?

  • besides robotics.

  • Electrical engineers deal with intricate systems of electricity, and circuits. If you want to learn programming I suggest computer science. For robotics, it would be in the computer engineering/computer science field.

  • I do electrical engineering, and yes we learn about all the things you said. Don't do computer science just for the programming, there's plenty of that in EE if you want!

  • dude robotics is for mechatronics mechanical engineering

  • i have a question when they say it is rapidy changing what does that mean, like every year or so u have to go back to school, or do people at work teach you?

  • Usually you keep yourself updated on new technologies and learn them and then apply them in your career. If there is any advanced topics, normally the company will sponsor you for a training seminar or any other classes that might be needed.

  • This is a job where the learning process never ends. Technology changes everyday as you know.... Always a new phone, ipod, computer......... always something new. You should also keep yourself updated by reading a lot.

  • Yeah, computer engineering is a cross between computer science/software engineering and electrical engineering.

  • Normally C code is used for control systems (robotics). Computer engineers do both software programming and electrical engineering... does that answer your question?

I'm a EE, and almost all subareas require some programming whether its solving some algorithm, inputs to a forumla, testing, or simulations. Control systems usually involving some PLC that requires coding in order to run a motor. Maybe thats what you are thinking about?

  • Basically for your own knowledge the difference between an Electronic and Electrical engineer is that, Electronic engineers deal more with micro processor programming. Electrical Engineers are involved in PLC programming as well as C++ programming. They both cover electrical principles maths etc. Thats the difference. If you want to be doing more robotic controll then i suggest you to look at Mechatronic Engineering.

  • find me mechatronic on the major chart... can't seem to find it either

  • am doing a btec national dipoma and should be going into this at uni i love working with electrics since i was 8 i had a box of wires and could spend hours just making simple ciruits i loved it

  • Hey everyone im going to school to be for engineering. I want to do repairs and Hands on work with electronics. should I go in Electronical/tronic engineering or technology? I dont want to do ANY appreticships. PLS Help start school in 3 weeks.

  • Sounds like you should go for Engineering Technology. Im an EE/Physics major right now and I can tell you that engineering programs are mostly theory and design. If you like repairing electronics then there are a lot of colleges that offer engineering technology or electronics programs.

  • Can you tell me if there is some way that Electrical Engineering can be mixed with Audio Engineering so that one can have a stable career in Audio Engineering with a strong degree that is financially stable?

  • If I recall, audio engineering isn't really engineering per se that they do not study lots of math and physics. EEs can study how to design and build devices used for audio engineers such as amplifiers, mixers, mics etc.

  • Regardless of qualifications. A true engineer is one who designs and creates. Too many people call themselves an engineer. This includes university level who supervise, fix, audit engineering projects. Take out engineer and what's left is very little.

  • Amen to that.

  • I'm becoming an Electrical Engineer. I just got accepted!!

  • I'm an electrical engineer...this does not describe my job at all

  • i wanna be 1 and can u give me some details on how your job is please

  • I'm a test engineer, I test electronic equipment. The equipment often doesnt work properly due to poor assembly, so I check schematics and analyze what the possible problems could be and solve them. Although, this is more of a technician or technologist job. An real engineer designs and makes NEW things...look on wikipedia or google for proper info

  • May be you are an electronic engineer not electrical engineer!

electronic engineer make cellphones, computers and other electronic stuff

  • i wanna be an electrical engineer can you give me details sbout your job? please

  • my job is a mix between a technician and an engineer. I'm called a test engineer. I test electronic equipment (like high tech wattmeters, high voltage dividers, etc) and troubleshoot problems. I am still new but later on down the road I am expected to implement new designs to make the equipment better. I do not know how I will do so, perhaps I will be given training by the other more experienced engineers in the plant.

  • lol HP

  • thks 4 the vid!

  • ELECTRICAL RULES.....

  • lol Pspice

  • I like Pspice too. Labview is great too!

  • wow. same here. oh, and I also have actuarial science on my list...I'm having a hard time choosing one =/

  • I can't decide whether I want to go into electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, civil engineering, or computer science(software development).

  • It's not always about what you want to do. Instead, it's about what you can deal with. Originally, I wanted to study electrical engineering at Georgia Tech (which was HARD AS SH**), but I ended up changing my major to civil engineering, which was the easiest out of those five you mentioned.

  • I see what you mean. But don't you think that varies for some people? Maybe some people are good at solving physics and calculus problems involved in electrical engineering while being retarded in civil engineering projects such as how to properly design a bridge?

  • You're definitely right about the fact that some people are better at one thing than the other. So yeah, do what you're good at and stay away from what you're "retarded" at.

  • I really wish to study electrical engineering but I'm not good at maths. I think I have to work onit by myself before entering university.

  • well that's just one type of engineer, ie a power engineer. Electrical engineers design everything from computers to robots to nanodevices that will be able to circulate in your bloodstream. Everything is going electrical and digital. Electrical engineering is more diverse than any other type.

  • At least it brings a good amount of money unlike mixing cement.

Besides, I tend to respect engineers more than lawyers and other people since engineering is a major that actually requires hard thinking. Electrical Engineers have to master advanced physics and advanced calculus. What does a lawyer do? Learn the law? LMAO

  • well lawyers help bring justice and put fugitives behind bars and ironically with the help of civil engineers people comit suicide and if you have no lawyers no rules will be put into actions and people rights are endangered. but i get your point lawyers have te most boringest jobs ever.

  • @stealthkiller2107 and they need to know how to lie

    lol

  • @stealthkiller2107 Plus lawyers are scheming scumbags, the lowest of the low.

  • @stealthkiller2107 And of course everyone knows there's nothing complicated about the law...

  • @tabber87

That came out wrong. I'm not saying becoming a lawyer is not hard work but let's face it, some of the concepts that EE majors have to learn are more difficult than anything you'll encounter in law school.

  • electrical engineering divid to many pranch

1- power system ( power plant, transmission lines,sub-station,distribition) 2-machine(generators, motors transformer),powerelectronic(converter, inverter, rectifiers ) electronic ,communication , midical devices

  • In most countries... yes it is.

There is something called "Electronic Engineering".

  • Hi, first thanks for the video, I'm intrested in taking a bachelor in electrical engineering( my father is an electrical engineer :d), but I'd like to know more about the sub-divisions, is there a video or something that can help?

    thanks.

  • for example, at my school, university of British-Columbia in Vancouver Canada:

-nanotechnology, nano meaning sizes that are 10 to the -ve 9th order

-power systems, ie. generators, transmission lines, power electronics like your power cord and converter to your laptop, transformers

-computer engineering, not just laptops and desktops but things like microprocessor design where there's about 5 million transistors on a chip...

    -software

-controls, thins like designing robots and actuator

  • what the hell! EE isn't just Power Systems!

  • Yes, you are right but did you expect them to talk about all the branches and sub-divisions of Electrical Engineering in less than a 2 minute video?

  • YESSS!!!........no :(

  • ya but power stuff hasnt changed in a long time... they should have talked about stuff like nanotechnology and robots etc, that vid made it look boring.
