I don't wont to crap on anyone's parade but a freaking Midas analogue console is above many, and I mean many other consoles out there. I'm sure the studioLive board is freaking amazing but let's not compare apples and oranges.
This fella, either doesn't use gates, or just doesn't need them to be accurate. I use this console on tour too, but I use it as a monitor console. And it's a minimum input list running to it. As of right now I carry an SC48 as FOH...
This isn't a bad desk at all, in fact it's great as a monitor desk, although I wish it had more outputs, so we could run our 6 ears mixes in stereo. I also wish you could route the internal FX to the aux outputs without having to do crazy patching...
@bionno78 I would then also have to use another splitter to patch to the inputs of both desks, as well as match gains and channel settings on everything?
@notonekind Actually, I DO use gates, and I DO need them to be accurate, and I didn't have any problem using the StudioLive gates. Are you having problems setting yours? ,
I believe the Studiolive is a great little console for small acts, I just don't see how it compares to that Midas in any way, shape or form. It's like comparing a BB gun to an M16....yes both shot something, but I'll be bringing the M16 with me to battle! I think the studiolive is an excellent product for bar bands, weekend warriors, and small sound companies. It can see all of the advantages and no one can argue the price. But its not a professional tool, not today.....not ever!
@Hey ACE! I'm glad to see you base reputation on this TOY! I realize this is a Presonus marketing video, and I also think its a great product for small acts....but for a tour? Come on what Guitar Center did they find you in?
Possible Scenarios:
1) Power Supply FAILS......Midas has a redundant, Presonus SHOW IS OVER!
2) Something is spilled on your console......Midas MAYBE you have to move to an open channel, Presonus SHOW IS OVER!
I have no doubt that you are a great sound man who has many high profile clients. I am also sure that you can demand Midas XL4's and K1 speakers for all of your gigs. If that is indeed the case, then good for you.
However, for the rest of us who occasionally do a 500-1000 seat "rock club tour", the PreSonus StudioLive is a perfect option. The reasons are in the video.
By the way, if you're spilling stuff on your console, you may want to put a lid on your cocktail.
@Acegamma I'm happy enough mixing on whatever PA is adequate for the venue. For a small club some 650s are fine, outdoors I'll take whatever PA is up to the job K1s looks nice but I haven't had the opportunity to mix on that PA yet so no comment. Most of the venues I see are 1000 seats and I expect at least M7CL for a console, as I realize a more expensive console is no an option.
@StayProNJ Sooo.....as far as PA goes, you'll settle on whatever's "adequate", but when it comes to consoles, you need an M7CL....you're funny, man. I'm going to guess that you've never done a real tour in your life.
Here's the deal: 1000 clubs don't all have M7's in them...some of them have crappy old analog desks with compressors and gates that don't really work and effects that cut off halfway thru the show....once you've experienced that, you'll be happy to walk in with a NEW PreSonus Live
@HellsSoundman, A PA is only as good as it's system tech, not necessarily a specific brand or box. The system needs to be acquit for the venue. Arrays need to be hung properly.Tops, subs, front fills all need to be properly positioned an aligned. A console is different, most engineers want something with a quick work flow.
Does every guitar player HAVE to play an $8000 guitar in order to sound great?....or can a real guitar player make a $600 guitar sound incredible?......
So why would people think that you need a $50,000 mixing console in order to make a band sound great?
people working with music are getting more lazy with the time :( its really cool to do the soundcheck, working with people and knowing the acoustic of the venue...i will miss that
It's all well and good that they use it for tracking their gigs, but why in the WORLD would you use it for front of house mixing when you've got a Midas badboy like that right next to it? :P It isn't over 9000 times as expensive for no reason... ^^
They really passed on using the HOB Midas console and Klark comps/gates for the StudioLive? I find that hard to believe. That's not a knock on Presonus. I like the Presonus gear I own, but...
Nice! I've been loving the 24ch. We've been using it to run FOH plus four stereo in ear mixes and two wedge mixes. And obviously, multitracking everything! It's great. I think I'm selling my Yamaha soon so I can purchase the demo unit I'm currently using.
"The quality of life improves, because of the Presonus Studio Live 24". I could not agree more with that statement. We have been using the Studio Live 24 for a while now and it has made setup, sound check, gigs and recording so easy.
Our sound tech couldn't make one of our shows recently, so it was left up to me to get us through the gig. No problem, called up the last preset that we had saved and it was great. Anyone need a sound tech? LOL!
Presonus is Compact Digital Mix ..
But MIDAS is legend of Analog console same Soundcraft Series 5 ..
....
I think that should give Presonus Digital Mixer vs Phonic Digital Mix.
It is in the same class.

The song was written by Yes in the early 70's, called Roundabout- their biggest hit until Owner of a Lonely Heart in the 80's.

@notonekind You can run more StudioLive in parallel to duplicate /triplicate INPUT and OUTPUT.\

@bionno78 So I'd need to buy another one to use more outputs... at which point it's the same cost as an LS9?

3) Software Crash mid-show......Midas no software = no problems, Presonus SHOW IS OVER!
4) Outdoor show, bright sun....... Midas, I see the controls, Presonus hope I don't have to change anything cause I can't see anything.
5) Years of abuse by stage hands.......Midas is known for decades of reliability, Presonus?
This list can go ALL DAY, but I'll let others fill it in the rest.
So...... ACE next time bring your big boy boots and bring an SC48, and leave the toys at home with the kids.
