  • Holy crap!!!! This is just fucking awesome.

  • What's with his voice? Sounds nothing like his voice in his inteview.....and that's a bad thing.......

  • best aussie band since sherbet!

  • yes, why do they pull the interview totally out of context?

he just looks like an ass to me

  • So refreshing to see some poetry in Australian music. Beautiful.

  • brilliant -underrated, and , dylan is dylan, gareth is gareth, sui generis... and fin by fin for us all

  • i'm surprised he's playing this song with a pick... More recently he seems to have started using his thumb and little finger to play, a style he seems to have created himself. It's great.

  • I agree - excellent style, though not really his own - check out Mark Knopfler or Richard Thompson...

  • Who is the host of this show, that gareth mentions when he's talking about people who you can't understand?

  • Former Australian Crawl frontman James Reyne.

  • @JakeG1111 - it's James Reyne, from Australian Crawl

  • This very clever song has nothing to do with sharks and boats but more 'life' it is truly art and I cant stop playing it i love it

thanks so much for the acoustic post

  • Quality...

    Like an Australian Bob Dylan...

And so easy on the eyes....

  • australias got a bob dylan. he's called Paul Kelly, but The Drones f'n rock.

  • So if Paul Kelly is Bob Dylan, Gareth Liddiard is Dylans and Joplins offspring, hahaha. Joplin being the American ummm ahh... Renée Geyer?!

  • But better.

  • oh and I'm surprised he didn't mention Shane MacGowan at the beginning. nobody can understand that bastard

  • love this fuckin' song. loses its punch acoustically without the desperate sounding shouting in the original, but this is great in its own way

  • This rendition is revelatory. I come back every week and watch it. Hell yeah.

  • sharkfin blues is off wait long by the river and the bodies of your enemies will float by. Written by G.Liddiard. These guys are bloody awesome, listen to the cover of kev carmodys 'river of tears' and the beasts of bourbon cover and the 'suicide is painless' cover

  • Never heard of any of these guys until I read some article in The Australian newspaper. This is a top song, nice playing, nice singing - all good.

  • wat show was this?

  • DigTV (ABC2)

  • What can I say...wow.

  • kim salmon is a great songwriter, the drones do a sick version though.

  • you saying Gareth Liddard didn't write this song?

  • i always thought it was a kim salmon song, i have been wrong before. but sure ive it heard ages before the drones did it.i shall look further.

  • Please look, I'd like to hear that, I'm gonna look more into Mr. Salmon, he sounds like a cool cat if he's doing stuff like this as well.

  • mr salmon is a legend. he def has influenced alot of musos.he does have some top film clips on the tube.

  • its a gareth liddiard song, not a kim salmon song

  • James McCann had somethin' to do with it

  • James left the band well before this song/Album.... he had nothing to do with it.

  • gareth is one of my favorite songwriters.

  • i fucken love this song

  • brilliant song. seeing Gareth support the Gin Club on Friday, very keen.

  • Brilliant Sea Shanty!

  • Fucking brilliant. Thank you for posting this amazing version of a wonderful tune!

  • Fucking brilliant. Thank you for posting this amazing version of a wonderful tune!

  • Gareth is up there with Paul Kelly and Matt Walsh of RUSTED for mine - Reggie

  • this is brilliant.

  • gareth is cool. but fiona is SO FUCKN HOT!...

  • oh yeah...

  • Yeah I agree bitch. And thay can do it live too. Fuck i just burnt my leg with a smoke

  • easily the best band in oz - have been for years.

  • im sold- i going to buy Gala Mill and Wait Long...

Shark fin blues is an excellent song, both acoustic and with the full band!

  • one of my favorite songs, interesting to see it acoustic. thanx.

  • Amen. Gareth Liddiard is the Banjo Patterson of our generation.

  • if only john howard could match or even echo the aus-humanity in this song... he'd get my vote.

  • we have howard interpreting australia. we have channel nine and mr jones. we have the museums and we have the newspapers. this man tells the truth... you can feel it

  • ^^^ Sorry ignore that..

This acoustic performance is great.. Such a unique and amazing voice. Check out The Drones' new album Gala Mill, its as good or better than Wait by the river.. I really love these guys.

  • asdg

  • what a character! I can't get enough of Gareth or the Drones

  • mate, I agree and it's a shame you can't get the whole thing. cheers
