  • Man, these are top-notch actors and they are absolutely struggling to keep it together.

  • There was a president who used to answer the door in his robe, his name: Abraham Lincoln

  • "no no no! sit sit sit!"

  • Martin Sheen said that this was one of his favorite WW scenes, because he was allowed to act goofy, which he had a great time doing. My problem with the scene is continuity. There was never any further reference to Bartlet having a "back problem".

  • @observer9670 MS?

  • "I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog,"

  • President Bartlett : Come here give us a hug

    Toby : Leo!

  • Why do I get the feeling that this was probably how the Bush White House was? I'm not saying he was high, just as clueless as this

  • Mandy was never really mentioned again, was she?

  • I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog.

  • "Mr. President, I left you alone for two minutes...."

  • Is it just me, or does Martin Sheen have the same kind of gestures as Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men from 0:42 - 0:51 ?

Makes sense as Martin is supposed to be on drugs. :-)

  • "Well of course Toby's not going to resign."

They had no idea how ironic that would become.

  • Haha he looks like such a goof when he has his head leaning back on the sofa, like he's just pretending to listen, around 2:56. And I love that they reference the MS thing about a season early, at 2:19. Skilled writing, great acting :)

  • Haha, did anyone else notice at the very beginning that he knocks on the door before he goes in?

  • "I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog"...LOL

  • He never got his dog though...

  • This just about kills me every time, it's so priceless.

  • Toby during that hug just makes this for me :')

  • This is the best clip. I laugh every time I see it.

  • OMG, he's the best when he rants about how his mind is sharp, pauses pensively and then goes:''was I just saying something?'' LOL!

  • Not sure it can get much funnier than this.

  • Toby's a nice name! hahahaha

  • By far one of the funniest things I've ever seen on a TV show. MS is a genius.

  • He reminds me so much of Charlie (Sheen that is not Charlie Young) in this scene it is quite scary

  • Toby's face at 2:03 PRICELESS!!!!

  • I love his Mick Jagger @ 1:00

  • This does take a page from JFK, who had very serious back problems.

  • ROFL this scene is brilliant. Martin Sheen just cracks me up here. How could they shoot this and keep a straight face? Probably took a few takes.

  • When he pulls Toby in for that hug at around 3:20...I love that the rest of the team even attempt to carry on with business as usual. Comedic genius!

  • I love Leo's expression when Bartlet has them sit down.

  • good one Darrin!!

  • "Get Charlie"

Hmmm, probably not what Martin Sheen needs while high...

  • toby you're a great writer you know that/ thank you sir/ give us a hug/ LEO??/ come here, give us a hug...

  • im sam sir,

oh, sam... yes you are. (wraps his arm oround his head)

  • Seriously? Where did you hear that?

  • Seriously?

  • A percocet and a Vicodin.... he is soooooo high!

  • @cshubs and he was banging 7 gram rocks...

  • it wuld be fantastic , if one of the episode show tat he srsly did buy a dog .

  • "Hot damn now you're talking" - i love that part :) Bartlet cracks me up

  • leo's face is hilarious!

  • Hot Damn! Now you're talking!

    Bartlett FTW!

  • "I wasn't supposed to take 'em both?" Oh, my god I sprayed coffee everywhere!

  • I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog........ ...... an Irish setter

  • "I wasn't supposed to take 'em both?!" Classic.

  • A little prologue of TIGER BLOOD!!!!!

  • Isn't it after this when Toby says the best line.... "there is LITERALLY no one I don't hate right now" !! GOD I LOVE THIS SHOW!!

  • "No no no, sit sit sit..." LOL

  • Charlie Sheen right here

  • "Mr. President, I left you alone for two minutes." Oh, Charlie.

  • funny stuff - i wasnt sposed to take both of em

  • "So before I go please let me just say this: *breathless silence*

I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog.."

    :D

  • Martin Sheen prepped for this scene by spending a weekend with his son.

  • @darrinbaker00 Lol Charlie Sheen

  • @darrinbaker00 President Bartlet bangin' 7 gram rocks.

  • MOST FUNNIST THING I EVER SEEN..............

    WAS I SAYING SOMETHING?

  • I love it all, and I mean all of the seasons. But when he says, at 3:40ish, "Before I go, let me just say this...I am seriously thinking about getting a dog," might be my favourite scene of the whole series.

  • I half wonder if any part of this was true....I would have paid big money to have seen President Clinton high as a kite after heart surgery!!

  • @shadowkitty56 Bartlet was kind of a composite parody of Bill Clinton & JFK. This is perhaps the JFK side being shown...

  • @AdiRudi Couldn't be. He never cheated on his wife!

  • Sam's face is PRICELESS!

  • who wants pain ?

  • you left out the best line. Sam: How do you feel there big guy? Toby: Like I got screwed with my pants on.

    LOL

  • This must be how Boris Yeltsin's staff felt every time he went on a vodka bender.

  • "I like to roll up my sleeves and..."

    [20 minutes later]

    "...get involved!"

  • "before i go please let me just say this. I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog"

    haha xD

    that was so random

  • Bartlett: "Give me a hug."

    *leans in to hug Toby*

Toby: *in alarm* Leo! [Save me! Stop the incoming display of happy emotions!]

  • Toby: "I feel like I just got screwed with my pants on.

    Sam: "Excellent"

  • Martin Sheen just chanelling his own son in this scene.

  • One of my MOST FAVOURITE scenes from this AMAZING show!!!!

I miss this show so much and now I am going to go rewatch all 7 seasons!

  • Hilarious, fantastic acting by everyone. The subtle responses really make it work. One has to wonder though what were to happen if he say, ordered a first strike on Russia in this condition?

  • He killed me! Just awesome.

  • "I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog"

has to be one of the greatest lines from the series i still laugh everytime i see this part.

  • Martin Sheen is such a great actor!!!!

  • "I wasn't supposed to take 'em both?"

    LOL!

I miss this show so much.

  • brilliant show!

  • This is one of those scenes, like Rev. Jim's driving test or Mr Carlson's turkey confession, when you wonder how many takes the cast had to do before they stopped cracking up.

  • this is what it must have been like with Bush in the white house, except all the time

  • "Give me a hug." "LEO!!"

    ^BAHAHA!! i <3 Toby.

omg, Leo's face at 0:46 was EXCELLENT!

R.I.P., John Spencer, you are missed.

  • D'you think that the cast knew that Martin Sheen was going to play it like this cos their reactions were priceless.

I love this scene and I love this show!

  • @Shells2387 You can see "Sam" trying as hard as he can not to burst out laughing, or "corpsing," while on camera. He's blatantly biting his lip in several spots.

  • more like the effects of weed or alcohol than painkillers

  • @xxKYLExGxx Uh... I took painkillers after breaking my ankle this year and I had some moments like this... or so I'm told. I watched entire movies with people that I don't remember.

  • This show has too many fun parts like this. Should be more about boring business. Like that movie Nixon.

  • " i am seriously thinking about getting a dog" hahahhahhahahahha

  • Great scene. A funny scene too!

  • such a great clip! one of my favorite of many from this amazing show! 4 more years!!

  • "Toby's a nice name, don't you think?" HAHA!

  • I love how Bartlet's real feelings about his staff come out when he's too stoned to edit himself. :)

I've always had the senior staff set up in my mind like a nuclear family: Jed and Leo the parents, Toby the oldest son, Josh and CJ the middle kids, Sam the baby, Charlie the adoptee, Donna the cousin. Of course, this would be the illegitimate family he had during an affair...er...campaign...and, wow I'm really getting ahead of myself here :D

  • If I didn't know better, I'd think was a glance inside daily life at the Bush White House. Now we know what his staff must have felt like.

  • Mr. President, I left you alone for two minutes!

  • toby getting hugged is just priceless!

  • I really have to stop watching this clip but it's just so funny! I adore Martin Sheen!

  • I once took both perc and vic at once! It was so funny because I just stared at random objects :) I couldn't help but think that we have had presidents like that.

  • *hug*

  • GOD do I love the West Wing! Jed Bartlet is THE Man!!! =D

  • This show was just epic!

  • haha! one of the best West Wing episodes ever! lol

  • This is one of my favorite scenes. Martin Sheen is funny.

  • "... was i just saying something?"

"i'm seriously thinking about getting a dog."

  • This is obviously very funny, but I would have thought it a little disturbing to see the president of the u.s. in that state

  • @BurkeanConservatism But these were trusted friends and colleagues. They saw him do worse.

  • 3:20 Toby's face! Love it!

  • Toby gives Charlie that look like "I'm going to kill you".

  • "You mean I wasn't supposed to take both?"

    Classic.

And taking a perc and a vike together would hardly be an overdose, just a double dose. I was on both after my knee surgery, and many time I'd take a pill, fall asleep, and wake up ten minutes later, thinking 4 hours had past and it's time for another pill. Just makes you loopy and sleepy.

  • In real life wouldn't they call in half a dozen doctors for an over doze like this?

  • HA :)

  • THE funniest scene EVER!

  • "I wasn't supposed to take them both???" then Leo's reaction is hilarious.

  • not perkaset, percocet

  • "Here's what I think we oughta do."

    *total silence*

Martin Sheen is GREAT in this scene.

  • I can't help but thinking this was President George W. Bush on a good day!

  • @Stonymypony At least Bush didn't boink a 20 year old intern in the oval office.

  • Comment removed

  • @Stonymypony

    This is GWB everyday.

  • Interesting how his bond with Charlie comes out even in this scene. He is doped up on painkillers, and he refuses everyone's request to go to bed. Charlie didn't have to ask twice.

  • ahhh this cracks me up every time!!! love this show!!

  • This one and the one in season 4 just before the Bartlet - Ritchie debate and they're having a quick fire q&a in the oval, and the president bets the senior staff that Toby cant stay quiet if he gives a bad answer, cracks me up every time.

  • " Which did you take Vicodin or Perkaset"

"I wasn't supposed to take both"

    Hilarious!!!!!! :D :D

  • And people call this a high-brow, intellectual show - little do they know how bloody hilarious it is as well.

  • I think this is one of the funniest scenes ever on the show.....lol

  • lol when he hugs toby!

  • hilarious!

  • I have no clue how any of the actors maintained a straight face long enough for them to film this scene.

  • At 3:27 you can see in the background Rob Lowe trying to keep a straight face.

  • Well I think Sam would have found the hugging thing hilarious, so it could be that Rob Lowe was supposed to look like that.

  • i saw the west wing bloopers and this scene was in there when barlet says...toby...toby...toby..lmao i love this show...it will stand the test of time..instead of taking poli sci..schools should just pop in a west wing dvd!! :)

  • Bartlet has vicodin too?

  • Comment removed

  • "Oh Toby, Toby Toby Toby Toby...... Toby's a nice name..."

  • "Before I go... Please let me say this..... I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog." HAH

  • I'm glad they got rid of Mandy, her character was boring. Some explanation would have been nice though.

  • they got rid of mandy cuz she wrote a playbook on how to beat bartlett

  • This is one of those scenes that make you realize that there's really not much worth watching on tv these days. The best show ever.

  • @sportsrockroll i know. although Dexter is pretty good. almost on par with the West Wing.

  • "no no no no Leo. I know my body."

nothing is funnier than that line. hahahaha.

  • when i first watched the series i think this scene was when i really fell in love with president bartlet. i already respected him but this was when i fell in love.

  • This is a brilliant scene. Brilliantly written and performed.

  • The look on Sam's face when he gets hugged is priceless.

  • I love to randomly get serious in casual conversations and say, "Let me just say this: I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog." That's the funniest moment in the history of all of television.

  • Toby.... Toby Toby Toby... Toby is a nice name!

  • high!Bartlet is so utterly, utterly hilarious!

    Thanks for this! :)

  • One dollar!! Hahaha....

  • aww amazing love this man and the top for the irish =) lol

  • i love how he motions rolling up his sleeves. tooo funny

  • I feel like this is what it was like in the oval with bush even if he was not on pain killers

  • Ha ha lol totally!!!!!!!! :o)

  • yes!!!

  • I was so totally thinking that the entire time I was watching this. It's Bush on a good day!

  • ya, you are completely right about the bush thing.

  • Their facial expressions are awesome. what would u do n a situation like that? lmao

  • "Bartlet to Sam: So tell me what the Problem is Toby ?

    Sam: Umm.. I'm Sam Sir.

Bartlet: Sam, Of Course you are."

    BRILLIANT!

  • Luv leo's expression!

  • "Hot damn now you're talking"

"I think she meant me Mr. President."

    "Ahh."

Everytime I see that, I start laughing.

  • hahaha this is priceless

  • "im seriously thinking about getting a dog"

  • Classic! :)

  • "i wasn't supposed to take them both?"

    haha

  • haha holy shit

  • Fantastic! I can watch this a million times and still laugh. I love the reactions of everyone in the room, they're hysterical! I love that Toby keeps trying to get Leo to save him, Leo looks like he just can't believe what's going on, and everyone else is just really amused.

  • too funny. for a moment I thot he was on ecstasy

  • This is by far the funniest moment of the entire series...

"I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog..."

  • hilarous episode. thanks for downloading.

  • Love this. Can you imagine George W having a day like this?!?! LOL

  • I think he does....everyday

  • He's probably like this when he's stone cold sober.

  • I meant W.

  • this series is too brilliant... I can keep watching it... I MISS IT! Barack is a nice guy, but he ain't no Jed Bartlet ;)

  • Even so, he made more sense than Palin!

  • I love how the MS is already hidden in there, twice.
