Also, the controversial laws were all contained within the Public Works Act, which was provincial legislation passed by our provincial Liberals.

The ad was ridiculous hyperbole back in '06 and it's ridiculous hyperbole today. The fact that something kind of, but not really similar happened a few years later due largely to actions of the very party making the ridiculous claims to begin with, doesn't change that.

I think the point of this ad is to comment on the immense waste of tax payer money (ironically very anti-conservative) that would accompany increasing ground forces in Canadian cities. If an attack does take place in a civilian city, such as a terrorist attack, then the most efficient and most successful preventative measures typically originate with national intelligence (in the U.S., the CIA) followed by a federal military rebuttal...
