  • enhh..not bad but yeah TC Carson is the definitive voice of Kratos..its like Kenvil Conroy or Mark Hamill's Joker and Batman..the originals, the best

  • SOO WRONG

i like the American MORE !!!

  • ATHENARUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Interesting. However I myself and I bet many many others prefer the original, but that is as it should be. Only in very rare situations is the dub, better than the original. Btw if these would get dubbed into Hungarian(which has a reputation of bad dubs) I'd kill myself

  • Is the lip-syncing tailored for the English or the Japanese voices?

  • english kratos voice actor for the win. Mind you, the japanese voice acting wasnt bad, just wasnt anywhere close to awesomness of kratos english voice actor. Its odd what I said sound like blashphemy since japanese often have superior voice acting but fact is fact; japanese kratos doesnt even compare to english counterpart. if only hollywood would have the kratos english voice for action movies, the movies would be pretty sweet

  • kratos japanese voice:good

    gaia japanese voice:not enough good.

  • Whatever. I just think it's cool Japanese people can enjoy the game with their own native voices. They need more exposure to a lot of the games being made in English, and vice versa.

  • I'm a seiyuu fanatic and usually put the Japs ahead of the English VAs. But in this case the English is just a step higher, but not far. Quality, variation and emotion by Japanese voice actors is just usually far better IMO.

  • Anyone know how well the God of War series did in Japan?

  • the kratos actor is actually really good i think.

  • @BatOtaku13 I hear it's the same guy who does the JP voice for Optimus Prime. Tessho Genda's his name, I believe.

  • @FirstTsurugi06

that's really him. He's also Toguro in Yu Yu Hakusho,Mike Haggar in Namco X Capcom,Batman...with these roles,it totally suits Kratos

  • He was also Khang in Tales of Destiny.

The role suits him, but I think the English version sounds better.

  • GODDO OBU WAA KOREKUSHON!1!1!1!!!

  • The English Gaia and the Japanese Gaia sound nearly alike. Good job on the casting!

Also, the game was only published by Capcom in Japan, not made by them.

  • @Sszechra: This is ironic, God of War took it's influence from Capcom's Devil May Cry, and now God of War is published in Japan by Capcom which made Devil May cry which influence God of War, ironic huh. Could you imagine Tom Clancy's HAWX being published by Namco Bandai (which created Ace Combat, which HAWX probably took it influence from) in Japan? Well Ubisoft publish HAWX in Japan and sold so well.

  • Blah, bullshit. It is like saying all rpg games are influenced by some certain rpg games. Devil may cry and God of war may belong to same genre. But they are far different. Now dante inferno is total copy of god of war...

  • @Jackie113:So according to your logic:

Silent Hill is a rip off of Resident Evil.

Saint Rows is a rip off of GTA

Call of Duty is a rip off of Medal of Honor

Splinter Cell is a rip off of Metal Gear Solid

Half-Life is a rip off of Doom

So what if Dante's Inferno look very much like God of War. If you're saying that, then God of War rip off Devil may Cry. I read it in Playstaion magazine and they acknowledge God of War took it influences from DMC.

  • @mdo7 fucks devil may cry. God of war stole nothing from that shit series. God of war is a far more evolved game of the same genre than devil may cry. Of course their similar because its same genre and they both have blood.

  • @mechysonu2010: do you really have to say "Fuck Devil may cry"? A lot of thing copied off of one another. Sometime the copied off might be better then the original, like Silent Hill copied off Resident Evil but it's more disturbing.

  • @mechysonu2010 Good lord, you're an idiot. GOW was built on DMC's foundations. The developers at Santa Monica have admitted that fact themselves. It's a clone. But a damn good one.

  • @Jackie113thedarkness Dante's Inferno is real crap if you ask me. Sure the story was a bit great but, fighting fat lards? C'mon they could have at least put up Burger King in there,if it's Gluttony. As for Greed,Zombies wearing bling-blings would be awesome!

  • 英語でも日本語でもどっちでもいいだろ?意味がわかればいい。

  • Kratos japanese voice actor = FAIL

Gaia japanese voice actress = WIN

  • Kratos japanese voice actor WIN

    Gaia japanese voice actress FAIL

  • the other day by curiosity, i check in nico douga if there was japanese gameplay of GOW, and i almost laugh my ass off, i don't know what was more funny, the stupid censorship, all the tits and the sex minigame were out (oddly enough the gore was intact) or the fact that the guy doing the walkthrough sucked very bad at the game

  • this is good but TC carson will always be kratos

  • chevere

  • Wow ! Like a good anime !!!

  • Carson is better imo.

But yeah none of them are greek.

Hasn't bothered me though and Im greek :P

  • i kinda like Genda.

  • I like the japanese VA better than the english one to be honest

  • It always seems that way to me.

  • Why? Because it sounds so exotic? Kratos can be played by one of the worst Japanese voice actors and people like you would still prefer it. How pathetic.

  • Actually Tessho Genda (who voiced Kratos in the JPN version) is a very well known voice actor. You need to do your research on him. He voiced Optimus Prime in Transformer, and he did a lot of anime voicework. I also believed he voiced Batman in Batman: TAS, and he reprise his role as Batman in Batman: Gotham Knight anime.

  • it sounds really stupid when they put it in japanese. Its like an American cowboy speaking like a japanese samurai. does not match. they should have the subtitles instead.

  • Why is the Japanese VA much better? Becuz you can't speak or understand Japanese and therefore cannot really figure out the quality of the acting?

You are pathetic. You people who always think Japanese dubbing of Non-Japanese fiction is way better.

  • no you can't. You are stuck in your own japanophile world where everything japanese is awesome.

The American VA is better for its own reasons. Kratos is meant to sound feral and appear animal like according to the commentary in God of War 1.

  • Yes I can tell you the limits of your senses. Whether you choose to believe what I say or not, is up to you.

But I can say whatever I want. And I say, you are right if Kratos was anything but a feral man who is also a prick. But he is...and is meant to sound gruff and angry, not a noble samurai.

  • @bladefalcon85 Bro agreed. The US-VA are AMAZING. Only jap shit sounds good in Jap

  • @hxa155 No the japanese is ok but the english verson is better and he doesn't scream and growl all the time you fucking weeaboo and I am sure you wish Mass Effect was in japanese as well right.

  • The japanese voice for Kratos does the voice for Tigger in Kingdom Hearts II. xD I find that awesome

  • ゴッド・オブ・ウォー this means god of war in japanese ??

  • GODDO OBU WOH

  • Kratos' Japanese VA isn't bad, but Gaia's pretty damn excellent. They did a good job matching their VA with the English one.

  • gami = god

  • dont want to sound like a nitpicker or self-important but its Kami

  • thank's anyawy

  • the guy who did the voice for kratos in this version also did the voice for optimus prime.

  • that's the voice of Toguro from Yu Yu Hakusho, kind of suits, right?

  • It almost sound like a anime to me :S

  • Wow, the voices actually weren't bad. But, considering Kratos is a grown white man, it leaves u wondering, why would he be speaking japanese? lol, awesome anyway

  • he isnt white he is light brown

  • american..

  • LOL! DUMB DUMB ^^^^^^. he is Greek lol

  • That's not proven, hes simply in a greek setting.

  • It IS Proven, Kratos is Zeus's Son...

Anyway, I LOVE the japanese voices

  • >.> well still, he would be speaking greek, not japanese. lol

  • With a name like Kratos, which is Greek for 'Strength,' AND a bonafide Spartan, how can he not be Greek?

  • Well the dispute's already been decided by AliProjectUberAlles, he's Zues's son, therefore he's greek. For your argument, the name Kratos, except pronounced "Krawtos", has been used for a character in Tales of Symphonia who is not greek.

  • Well, so what? The character from Tales of Symphonia is under very different context. God of War is under the context of Greek mythology. And I did mention that Kratos was a Spartan, so son of Zeus or not, Kratos under that context is very much Greek.

  • I didn't write the first comment intending for an argument, but I couldn't help myself :(, lol. There's a Japanese version of most if not all games, they all speak both English and Japanese regardless of race.

  • Jaffe also expressed interest in seeing actor Djimon Hounsou in the role of the protagonist, Kratos, saying that "You'd have to get past the fact that Djimon is African and Kratos is Greek, but in terms of the way he looks and his acting ability and his physique — I can't think of a better choice."check wikipedia

  • AWESOME.
