  • The greatest and most innovative composer Hollywood ever had. He didn`t deserve one Oscar, but twenty!

  • Such a great composer and so humble. Goldsmith and his wife are and always will be such a gift to the world.

  • That score really gave me the creeps a long time ago.

  • His scores for the "Flint" films were amazing!

  • バーナード=ハーマンの急死で、追悼と同情でハーマンが受賞する。そう思っていたのに自分が受賞して、嬉しいけど驚いたとジェリー=ゴールドスミスは言っていたね。

  • I saw Henry Mancini in the audience.

  • Jerry Goldsmith was the master of film soundtracks. He deserved that Oscar for the Omen because the the music's suspensful mood. Goldsmith brings a lot of excitement and supsense in his scores, especially in horror and science fiction movies. He should have least scored a Oscar nod for "Alien".

Many nominations but one win, Goddamn you, Academy!

  • Taxi Driver should have won. That theme is gorgeous and heartbreaking.

  • Then Goldsmith wouldn't have won an Oscar at all. It's bad enough that he only won one.

  • Jerry KICKS ASS!

Man doesn't he look like DUSTIN HOFFMAN here?

  • A well deserved Oscar at last for that man.

  • I like how someone claps when Taxi Driver is mentioned

  • Jerry Goldsmith one of the best music written for a movie great film directed by Richard Donner

  • at last ! ...

  • It's really 'sophie's choice' between giving Goldsmith his first and giving Herrmann one for Taxi Driver, esp considering Herrmann died the day they finished the recording session. Out of all those amazing scores, Herrmann got his oscar for the obscure The Devil and Daniel Webster in '41 (!). Still, much respect to Goldsmith.

  • It could just be me, but Jerry Goldsmith looked a LOT like Dustin Hoffman without the ponytail and glasses. Tee hee! Anyways, amazing composer... one Oscar is not enough for this talanted man.

  • It was a great composer and movie legacy. I think this is one of the best scores. I love Mulan score too and I think he should win for Mulan too!!!

  • what a an actress so attractive!!!!!!

  • tanks JERRY

  • i was looking up music for a spoof horror i was going to make, and i was looking for the music for the film poltergeist...but when i googled jerry goldsmith after finding he had written it in askjeeves, i find that between him and james horner, they've written all the bloody music to my favourite films..!

  • It's a tragedy that he won only one oscar.

  • He had enough quality work under his belt and a huge following, he didn't even need one Oscar!

  • I guess I'm just bothered by the utter clueless-ness of Acadmey voters.

  • I gave up bothering years ago. It's all politics.

  • In real life is Star Trek,s Mr Sulu a bum-bandit???...

  • Carol, a former UCLA cheerleader, was very charming and very smart. She & Jerry were great together. At the time I met Jerry, he had already done 125 film scores. Now THAT'S a lot of great music, folks.

  • @rmo52, not to mention the work he did for television!

  • Who is that lady?

  • His wife. Didn't you read?

  • @musicaltheatergeek79, Carol Heather was Goldsmith's second wife.

  • This was the time when Oscars actualy meant something.

  • agreee

  • i didn't even enjoy taxy driver so much

but the taxy driver score is AMAZING

  • His wife is very pretty

  • Outstanding soundtrack. One of the best in history!

  • I must confess that I m not a big fan of the Omen's score ( and neither Planet of the apes'one ), but he is my favourite composer and it's very pleasant to see this marvellous artist at this - too rare - moment of consecration.

  • The guy in the glasses at 0:32 is Paul Williams, whose song he wrote, "Evergreen", for Barbra Streisand won Best Song at that year's Oscars.

  • @Jal8919536, Paul Williams would write the songs for "The Secret Of N.I.M.H." which was scored by Goldsmith (Williams was present at Goldsmith's funeral).

  • This is footage from 'Film Music Masters: Volume 1 - Jerry Goldsmith' by Fred Karlin. It's available on DVD. I had a video copy a few years ago and it's well worth seeing. The DVD re-release is titled: Film Music Masters -Jerry Goldsmith Special Edition

  • he looks a bit like dustin hoffman, doesn´t he?

  • Holy cow! All those she mentions are all great! Bernard Herrman's taxi driver was great too. Lalo Schifrin still is alive and kicking, who can forget his Dirty Harry theme?

Jerry Goldsmith should have gotten more than just one Oscar.

  • I have the Legend soundtrack! Wonderful score, it perfectly evokes the setting (the enchanted forrests) and themes (love, darkness, farie-tales, magic, unicorns). The famous score that was rejected in American in favour of Germany's Tangerine Dream version.

Perhaps it's removal from the US version of the film effectively ended any hopes of an Oscar nomination (at the very least). Perhaps I'm being a little bold here - suggesting an Oscar for such a score - but it's a fantastic work.

  • Paul Williams is a good person.

  • Was John Pertwee (Dr Who) his brother?

  • RIP Jerry. You introduced me to the glory of film scores with The Secret of NIMH and I've not lkooked back since I was 7 years old. Thank you, Maestro.

What is this from, exactly? I know it's the Oscars but what is this actual video?

  • Is that Ennio Morricone in the background?

  • You can clearly see Henry Mancini on the aisle seat in the row behind Jerry's.

  • he is onhe of the best music composers for all time!

    like ENNIO MORRICONE.

i think he must get more than 3! oscar for his composes like: PAPILLON,OMEN,Basic instinct,.....

  • He was such a great composer and a very nice man. His wife Carol was his perfect companion; they were like kids together.

  • Jerry Goldsmith was the king of film music. He should've won more than 1 oscar.

  • @BozPictures He should've been nominated more.

  • much better the "star trek soundtracks "

  • he should've won it for Basic Instinct and Mulan too!

  • goldsmith, i love you!!!!!!!! r i p

  • Jerry Goldsmith looks like British actor Jon Pertwee! The latter was the third actor to play the lead character on Doctor Who.

Gregory Peck was his usual, magnificent self in 'The Omen', and the rest of the cast was superb as well. The movie made me a David Warner fan for life; but Goldsmith's dominant score was the real star of the movie.

  • now i love you!....rest in peace maestro....!

  • Didn't Mr Herrmann pass the prior year?makes me wonder if his two nominations muddied the water enough for Jerry Goldsmith to win,he should have won,no disrespect on my part,The Omen is an awesome score!

  • so so much deserved it crazy, he was nominated 18 times! The Omen is an magnum opus.

  • thank you too, i never saw this tv moment, great, really great and it's for the score I prefer of him.

  • thank you for that!!!!!!!!
