The guy that plays Danielle's father was the bad guy in The Living Daylights!! Never knew that until now!! He sounds exactly the same, but he is much less annoying in this movie!!
@emandkayforever it was more violent and more gloomy; at the end the Stepmother made one sister cut off her big toe and the other cut off her heel to fit in the glass slipper. Instead of a godmother there were doves (who pecked out the eyes of the stepsisters in the end). and they referred to Cinderella as Ashputtle instead
Yes, the German 1800s Brothers Grimm version of the story would definetly be disturbing compared to Charles Perrault's original 1600s French version which more resembles Disney's movie.
this has been one of my favorite movies since i was a little kid. my mom and i used to watch this constantly! i'm 19 now and still can watch this all the time and never get sick of it. there's just something so lovely about this film.
@thecottingleyfairy I use to rent this movie so often that we spent more money on actually renting the movie than it would have been to buy it. I eventually bought it when I was 17 and it still never gets old! :D
@LeJisemika hahaha be careful with your dvd. I also bought it a couple of years ago and have watched it so often that it is actually not working anymore even though i treated it so good :( some days, i would watch it again and again :D love it
I am watching this movie because my beautiful girlfriend told me about it. I would love to see her point of view. I wanna see what she sees I wanna feel what she feels....
this is my favorite version of the cinderella story....absolutely breath taking and well made! fantastic acting...i just watched cinderella thee 2000 version and....well lets just say im in need of a GOOD version of the story....
i never really like cinderella . for me she's to kind to the point that it irritate me i can't understand why she can't fight back... BUT then i saw this movie that tells a different story of her... NOW i understand her much better!
@JarOfHeartsLeftToDie lol i think it was acctually a heart attack because when he gets on the horse he holds his left arm like its hurting, still, poison would have added that extra bit of epicness lol ;)
I can't help but have to comment: this is one great Cinderella movie! The others don't even match up to this level, just mediocre acting with some pretty faces and no substance. This one is the real Cinderella story.
I don't think the step mother had anything to do with the fathers death. She did seem to have some care as she did run to him when he fell. I think the reason she hated Daniel and such was as her father was dieing he kept saying to Daniel that he loves her and was only focused on Daniel and never really acknowledged the step mother so she was probably jealous of Daniel after that?
I am bumed on what happened to the dad. Why did he die? This id the best version of cinderella! Dougray Scott was so awesome and charming in this movie. I wish i was danielle and could have such a loving life like her.
drew barrymore was the most incredible cinderella ever, and dougray scott was the most handsome and charming prince. The way henry loved to irritate danielle(as a joke) and the way danielle always rose to the occasion was quite humorous. you could tell they had the right chemistry right from the start. It will always be my very favorite cinderella movie of all time.
@qtip4ever Yup... the stepmother never care for Danielle. Did anyone notice the dirty look she gave to Danielle after she told her ''It's a tradition, he always waits by the gate''?
i watched this movie so many times and a thought just occurred to me..... isn't it at all possible that the new wife poisoned him (or something along those lines) so that she would get the house and everything? i mean, she just married him and now he's dead....
@HotJeter She wouldn't have poisoned him, they would have been completely dependant upon his success as a merchant and/or trader of sorts. Back in those days women had no right to own anything, that is unless they were incredibly rich to begin with and often assuming there was no male heir to take over the fortune. Where Danielle's dad says to Danielle "You'll have to show her the ropes around here, the baroness isn't used to getting her hands dirty", is a clear sign she was a lady of status.
i always have noticed this in cinderella like movies. there is alaways a color sceme witht the characters like the cinderella always wears a certain color as the stepsister as well. its wierd how that happens
@barsif1017 XD i noticed that too idk maybe shes just got that evil kind of look the only time i remember seeing her not as a villain was in the Adams family
This is my favourite movie! It shows true love <3 , a bitchy stepmother and step daughter (who got what they diserved), and my favourite artist! To make it better, I just realized I have the movie!!!!! :D
@electrikrainbows haha i play french horn, so i pay them extra attention when i hear movie themes! lord of the rings has the most amazing ones! and so does this movie! :)) lol
The Grand Dame, the woman who tells the story, is played by Jeanne Moreau. I've only seen her in 2 movies: this one and the 1962 French film Jules et Jim (Jules and Jim).
I love this movie so mush! It's very realistic and it shows that the cinderella story is veeeeery old. It really makes you think, that maybe this really happened. maybe the story is true. Love it!
