  • 1989, the warmest year on record, occurred near a peak in sunspot activity. The effect of sunspots activity is small but may show up when measuring differences in mean temperatures.

  • Total Solar Irradiance is affected slightly by the sunspot cycle which is at a minimum in 2009. It may be responsible for less warming than expected and this should be factored into our response.

  • omg the stupid burns. 1934 was the warmest year *in the US in the 20th century* by some calcs. Several years in the past decade have been warmer for the US.

    Wouldn't it be nice if Blitzer handled the facts and then the politicians could argue about policy?
