@Sheri451 ..I've seen her on " everybody loves raymond". She plays raymond's brother's girlfriend's mother!! Isn't she gorgeous? In fact she was called "georgette",in the MTM show.
@diflipid Thank You. I was just wondering where she was now, and I used to like Georgette. I loved each and every one on MTM except for the bratty boy that played David, Ted and Georgette's adopted son. Robbie Rist.
@Sheri451 ..there were so many shows of that era that I just loved, and miss...everything seemed a whole lot simpler then, the world seemed a nicer place,I guess I just got older!!!
@mfatimazora WHAT?!?! You should check out some of the outtakes and bloopers from the 1930's movies. Bette Davis and Humphrey Bogart (and nearly everyone else) had mouths like sailors. Remember, the MTM show was filmed in front of a live audience.
@mfatimazora lol. I'm only one year older than you. And, believe me, I was a little surprised myself when I stumbled on the old movie bloopers--only two years ago. We're just babes in cyberland.
@halle11780 This was just to entertain the audience between scenes. It's the way this guy "talks" the song with a heavy Yiddish accent that's the funniest.
@halle11780 The song "Old Man River" was one of the most popular songs from the musical "Show Boat". It's a very sad, dramatic piece, song by a black man who works on one of the river boats that cruised the Mississippi River back in the 1800's. You should google that musical, or at least that particular song. I'm sure you can find it on YouTube. In this MTM clip, the man who "talked" the song was having a joke with the audience. This wasn't a skit from the actual show.
This show is great! :) I'm a teenager, and I found out about this show from my mom, and its one of the only things I watch! its a shame they dont show it on TV anymore, its still such a big hit! I've even gotten my friends to watch it, and love it! I've seen every episode, and i NEVER get tired of it! This show is a great classic.... :)
Every time I watch these, I laugh even harder than I did the previous time I watched them, as impossible as that might sound...
I also get very sad being reminded that Ted Knight is no longer with us, I just adored everything about him. So talented, funny and just way too handsome. He must have had the patent on that whole "silver fox" thing because he nailed it.
From my perspective the best part is the last few minutes showing the wrap on the final scene...nice to see what happened on that final day of shooting MTM.
@chuckiejay Agreed. I saw her a few years ago and she still looks amazing. Sadly, diabetes has almost totally robbed her of her site. She has battled it since, I believe, before Dick Van Dyke. She has always stayed in tip-top shape to control the losses associated with it as much as she can.
@chuckiejay Agreed. I saw her a few years ago and she still looks amazing. Sadly, diabetes has almost totally robbed her of her sight. She has battled it since, I believe, before Dick Van Dyke. She has always stayed in tip-top shape to control the losses associated with it as much as she can.
Stan Daniels' Old Man River is my personal highlight, as it's not only hilarious, but he also wrote for the CBC in Canada - including a great number called "Uncle Louie" for the show 1955 in Review - which my Papa - Sammy Sales - performed. If any early-TV/Theatre buffs out there remember Sammy, pls post and let me know!
At 4:49, Ted, Murray and Lou are singing the melody of the song "More", but they changed it to say "Moore". That's terrific, and that's great comedy mixed with a great song which Andy Williams sings also. Wow! I've never seen the part after the show finished starting at 5:30. Is there any Moore? :)
@SpaceLady79 Actually, I think that guy spent his entire life in the studio audience for the show Taxi. He guffawed that same laugh week after week after week ... drove me nuts!!! :)
@TheMikester307 another hilarious version of 'Old Man River' that comes to mind was from the "Newhart" show.......when very very verrrrrry white (and rich) Stephanie (Julia Duffy) sings it :)
one of the funniest single moments from that show, imo :)
I liked that part where Ed Asner, Gavin MacLeod and Ted Knight were serenading Mary Tyler Moore with the song, "Moore", which was a parody of the popular song "More". And I know where they got that song: Mad Magazine. Frank Jacobs wrote that parody; it appeared in an issue of Mad Magazine sometime in the 70s. I was a big fan of Mad Magazine back then (as well as the Mary Tyler Moore Show), and I had read that parody in Mad Magazine back then. The guys at MTM must have liked Jacobs' parody, too!
@davidallancoe1 What was really surprising was Ed Asner having included the Mad Magazine parody The Mary Tailor-Made Show as a special feature in Season 2 - talk about being a good sport.
I always crack up even more when I hear Jim Brooks in the background laughing on MTM and RHODA....met Valerie Harper a few years ago....one of the nicest people (never mind celebrity) I've ever met...she was phenomenal....thanks so much for uploading these!!!
THAT WAS JIM BROOKS?? Hahahaha, every time I was either one of those shows I crack up at the man laughing in the background and I rewind it to hear it again lol.
Yes...isn't that funny? That's him and you can really hear him on RHODA on the episode she gets married (and I remember them talking about how it was him laughing in the background) Love this show so much!!!
Haha! Yes that is funny! I know:that's the episode that I rewinded because at first i thought it was part of the show, but nope, it's was Mr. Brooks! I figured it had to be someone who worked on the show, because you hear him all the time :) haha
My husband and I met her after she appeared in Tales of the Allergist's Wife on Broadway....Sandy Duncan took over but I don't know if she was fired? I never really watched to show. But she was so wonderful and down-to-earth---simply wonderful!!
5:27 right after her "porky pig", there's that strange laugh that I heard in almost all the episodes of MTM and Rhoda. // the group hug at the end, was that after the final episode?
No, it's not Sandrich. it may be the audience warm-up they had after Lorenzo Music went on to write and produce and play Clarton the Doorman on "Rhoda."
lol, hilarious. i have to admit, though, that after i saw mary as sante kimes, i was a little scared. i know it's not her, but damn, she played that role well. she really scared me in that film.
I remember watching these years ago, this woman I worked with knew someone that worked at CBS and she let me borrow a tape with all bloopers from shows on CBS (it was one of the greatest things I have ever, ever watched) and I remember Mary Tyler Moore the most from the tape. Thank you so much. I have thought of that tape with the great bloopers over the years...thank you so much for the Mary bloopers : )
Those bloopers were great, thanks for posting! Parts 1 and 2 would have been perfect extras on the DVDs of The Mary Tyler Moore Show Seasons 5-7. Please tell me 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is still going to put those out!
